Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon. Isaiah 58:10 (NLT) 92% percent in the Philippines are Christian. No wonder why the words of God were on their traits.

I understand your point of view. I need to let you know that I too am a Christian and it was a Muslim who helped me financially in my greatest time of need when my fellow Christians left me behind in countless circumstances when I was living in the Middle East. Every where you go, my brother, there's good and bad people, regardless oh race, culture and religion. Every good religion teaches charity etc and everything in regards to spirituality. Let's not attribute goodness to one religion or nation. Everyone, every human, even an atheist has the natural instinct to help anyone in need.

Generosity has no qualification... you may lack a lot of things in this world, but a BIG heart conquers poverty... it is just pure love! If the entire world is run by love and understanding, there is surely no place for greed and war.

The young lady simply started the ball rolling by putting up a food stand along her neighborhood street with groceries which everyone would buy anyway, but because this was supposed to be in the spirit of giving, everything was free. Those who wanted to help out came and brought more food items for the community pantry until the practice spread all over the country with different groups, both private and public (govt) donating to the cause. It's what is called "bayanihan" or the spirit of helping each other out in a community.

Filipinos are always like that...this activities was already there even before the pandemic happen...it all started with our philippine government thru our military men,who were the first to do it towards our countrymen...then followed by the religious group...this concept comes in... because philippines is always experiencing natural calamities ...like typhoons, eartquakes. We.. here in the philippines has always more or less 20 typhoons every year..

When the pantry started from suppose to be only in one community got viral , a lot of people got touched and chipped in no matter how small or big they could give until a lot started their own pantry in their community, the lockdown have different stages depends of the number of covid cases. So it helped those places who can’t go far , unable to go work, got no job due to close establishments, malls etc. The term “Bayanihan “,,,, is helping one another in time of need, it doesn’t matter how big or small is your contribution. That’s how it got sustained, a lot came . Farmers donated their harvest, fisherman gave what they catch for the day, they feed stray cats and dogs, and it resonated to the whole country.

Oftentimes, an individual start community pantry by using his/her own money in buying foods to be given out to those in need. After a while other people touched by such kindness will donate money or goods for give aways to this individual in order said act will continue to benefit the hungry people.

Truth is, there's a lot of people financially being dependent to the government at the moment and the food rations or small allowances for people to get by during this pandemic. But it's also true that not everyone can receive help from the government (like the taxi drivers who have not been able to do their work cause people are not allowed to go outside anyway, they have been without work for months and have been reduced to begging sometimes for help). And situations like that have been the motivation for us to do community pantry cause it's also true that most of us still get to work at home and still has regular wages and can live comfortably. If you get to live comfortably and enjoy resources without problem (and still have more), how hard it must be to sleep at night knowing that just across your house, your neighbor must be struggling and must be one of those families whose breadwinner became jobless. And so with that motivation, those who have more get to share what they have. Everybody is willing to donate, raising funds to buy products to be given away help too (for those who don't have much but still willing to give). And those who are taking from the pantry, takes it as a blessing and they help in return by taking only what they need and not taking advantage so more people can get food. That's pretty much it. 🤗💚💜

She just left a sign that anyone can leave food for people who needs foods and anyone can get the amount of food they need. And everything is just trust that people will follow the system. And unexpectedly, Filipino don't just follow the system but even copy and implement it to other baranggays, towns, citys, provinces. This became continuous to others. And went viral.

I was brought up to see like in our home while being a kid, any stranger who does not know where to stay or have no food, my mom and dad would welcome them, invite them to eat or some can stay and give them food before they go away. When someone ask for fruits or food my mom would just give them. Our house was surrounded by all kinds of fruit trees and we have more than enough for our family. We have Mangoes, avocados, oranges, jackfruits, pomelos, cotton candy fruits or santol, chicos, atis or cream fruit, yambo, tampoy and many other tropical fruits. I think most Filipinos who can afford or have any extra would give out to their neighbors....

It is not how or what can she afford, it is what they have extra or spare that they can give, then others will do the same. It is very common in the Philippines to give those who are in need. Sometimes the poor who does not even have enough are more giving than those who have too much because they know the struggle and how hard it is to have nothing to eat.
