"I typically don't go too quick", mate you are the fastest painter I have ever seen, and you don't spill a drop! I can see clearly that you a a pro compared to me. Great video and great job.
Geez...You are so smooth at painting!!! 2 Me its an art I can appreciate ....Well. I think because I don't quite have that skill!! ,,,My jobs are always a disaster !!! Yet they winde up being ok! ...The thing I'm learning is I really need better rollers! Thanks bro!!!
May I ask what products you recommend in terms of like rollers and primers. Our walls are a dark beige with brown trim and accent walls. I’ll be painting either white duck or shoji.
@@HappilyeverHart I use a few different products, I like bennett for rollers and brushes , and I like to use sico or Benjamin Moore for paint and primers
I have a question - what is the reason to go against the direction of the roller? What I've seen from other youtubers is that you have to roll in the direction of metal holder to avoid ridges and if you leave ridges on the primer that will also show on the paint.
I've watch many videos too, I think everyone has the ways they like and in the end it's all pretty much the same result. I can roll the ceiling and walls in any direction and it's great when done. Thanks for watching and for the comment I always like the feedback and questions
Thank you! Just the info I was looking for. I'm painting a dry wall at college as an assessment and I mistook the top coat for a primer! When I painted the next layer, you could see the seams. I think I'll have to repaint the whole thing again and properly this time.😅
Did you do two coats of primer? First coat you did I could see through it but when you went to do the top coat the primer looked much more even. Was there a second coat in between?
I was going to use a ladder to reach the upper wall but after seeing this, I'll buy a long handle for the roller instead. That primer paint goes on well with good coverage. I wonder what brand it is.
Hi , yes the poles work great. I think the primer I would have used here is called Bullseye 123, it's great for anytime of priming the company is zinsser Hope this helps
Hi there, yes I use the same primer on walls and ceilings doors and trim. I use a few different brands of paint, the best paint on the market in Canada is definitely Benjamin Moore. If you go to the store they should be able to help you with all your needs, well I guess you will have to call them first and make sure they are open and doing curbside pickup if you are in Ontario. Hope this helps
Hi, I did the corners after, the most important part is to make sure you roll the whole wall, sometimes you can see through thr paint after and see the primer, so that's why you need to roll the whole surface
What's the brush you're using? My husband gets these really large angle brushes and I have small hands so they hurt after a while. I dread cutting with a brush because of this. BTW - I can watch you paint ALL day! Mesmorizing.
Hi there, thanks for watching and for the comment and question. I have used all kinds of brushes and all sizes, a number of years ago i found the perfect brush for me and what i do, mostly interior house painting, and that was the 1.5 inch angled Bennett proffesional series brush. I do like to wash them first a couple times before using because it will open up the brush a bit wider and thicker. Which I find is just right for me to get crisp straight lines. Bennett is a Canadian company and the products are made here in Canada. If you are in the states you might want to check with your local paint store to see if they carry them. Perhaps a home depot would as well. Glad you enjoy my videos 😊👍🏻 I try to keep creating contend on this channel as much as I can
@@TheCanadianHomePainter Thank you! The closest thing we would have is the Wooster brand so I'll go take a look at HD. Also, did you water down the paint at all? It goes on so smooth, like butter? Is that the brush doing that? I just never thought I'd be able to use a much smaller brush because my husband always buys the 3-4" angled brushes and they're huge and hard to work with.
@@suzanx I dont water down the paint, I will only use a couple brands of paint though, Here in Canada Benjamin Moore is number one, but a close second is Sico which is now a PPG product. And those 2 give me the best results, they aren't cheap but well worth the money. As for the brush, I have to male sure the wash and dry them a couple time which will expand them to about 2 " give or take. Right out of the package they aren't what I like. Wooster is a great brand as well , very popular here too, try out the inch and a half and see what you think
Hey, yes I would prime, I like using just white primer then if there is paint on ceiling or trim i cover it with the white primer, then start with a new fresh line cut. After that i always put on 2 coats of the paint. Hope this helps, thanks for watching and for the comment
@@devinmoran59 that might not be a bad idea, it does take some time to get good at painting. Make sure you hire a company that someone you know has used the services before and were very happy. It's best if you can go and check out the finished product on a job they did. That's my only advice when hiring.
Hi there, in the case of this video the reason was for covering the drywall repairs. If I don't prime I see where the repairs were behind the paint, the primer works to conceal those areas. If you don't have repairs and you are painting latex paint over previous painted latex then you should be fine. Hope this helps
Do you have to be good at edging to prime? I have to prime my walls that were professionally painted before I move and I’m worried 😅 I have no painting experience
You should have a fairly steady hand, I would use a 1.5 inch brush which will help with control. I have a few videos demonstrating how I do the edging or cutting around ceiling and trim
My man installed that greenboard moisture resistant drywall. I've always just painted drywall but heard I need to use primer. I bought Zinsser fast prime 2 but am nervous to use it. It is a new wall section on an existing wall and has been taped and mudded already. There is no real ventilation down there. Have you used this primer? Have you used it on greenboard? Does it smell bad? I bought a paint 3M mask but I have a parrot so I really have to be aware of smells and VOCs. Do I need to wear gloves too? Can I just paint without the primer? My paint is Pittsburgh, I think latex or water whatever. I read this primer you need to use oil based paint? I'm so confused now.
@TinaRussell-e6e to be honest I am a bit confused too So I'll just tell you what I do I use bullseye 123 primer om the new drywall, then I go over that when it's dry with 2 coats of latex paint I don't use a mask ( probably should have over the last 20 years of doing this lol) also I don't wear gloves again maybe I should have Also yes I did have a client once change her mind about painting because she has birds too and was worry about the smell vocs etc So I am not sure if this info will help you out let me know if this clears thi is up or if I have now made you more confused lol Thanks for the question
@@TheCanadianHomePainter haha thank you for replying! I guess I need to return the Fast prime 2 for this other kind?`You said she changed her mind though, is that because the Zinsser smelled too bad?
@TinaRussell-e6e no because she was really worried about her birds , I didn't know that they are so sensitive to odors I don't know much about that just from what she told me
Good question, the reason being if light shines in on the wall , you will most likely see the primer through the paint. I know from my experience that can happen and it doesn't look good, if you prime the entire surface you won't see where you primed
you dont need to prime the entire walls or even use a primer just spot prime the filler with a thinned coat of your emulsion you only need to use a primer on bare surfaces for walls you would only use a primer on old plaster or walls with efflorescence other than that you dont need one
Well I always make sure to do the whole surface, I find with spot priming in certain light I can still see the repair, but when I prime it just seems to cover.
Is it okay if my primer paint isn’t perfect? I noticed yours is pretty good and even, mine isn’t. Shall I have a second cost of primer? Watching here from the Philippines
Hey! Wow all the way from the Philippines 😊 The Primer wont look as good as the paint, if you are worried about it there is no harm in giving it a light second coat. Thanks for watching and for the comment
I hate how easy you made this look. My room came out looking absolute dogsht. Thankfully we only did one room so the wasted money was minimal. Next time I'll just hire a pro.
Thanks , sorry your project didn't turn out the way you wanted. I have been doing this for over 15 years so I guess that's why i make it look easy. Thanks for watching the video and for the comment
