Religion literally promotes irrationality.

I agree, indoctrinating children with religion is more often than not child abuse. I grew up in a religious Christian home and by the time I was 5 years old I was having panic attacks trying to follow the Bible correctly and fearing hell. That lasted me most of my life until I went to college and started realizing all of the holes in my religion. I nearly did some things that I can't say on RU-vid, but simply put college did more than just give me a fancy degree, it also saved my life by opening my eyes.

I often wonder how much different the world would be without religion.

Organized religions are political movements pure and simple about power and control. Their clergymen don gaudy robes and convince you they represent God, that's power. Tell you you're a sinner so that you're in thrall to them and need them for redemption, job done. And don't think you can escape their clutches by living a chaste and pure life, they've got original sin to cover that, a sin you committed before you were born!

Wow, everbody should at least listen to this... I live in Italy, where everybody is catholic, but I was brought up fundamental baptist. I still don't know till this day how I never talked to my children about god and the bible... my intuition stopped me, and I am so happy, i didn't!!! It is worse than mild. Much worse. Children are born innocent. They engage in life as they grow. They learn about how we need to deal with each other as time goes on. They need great care. They come to understand this. They are at the mercy of adults. Then the religious hit them with death and hell. Learning of death through religion is painful. Not natural. You are told what you have learned so far is untrue and that the world isnt what all of your experience tells you it is. It is highly traumatic. You may not remember it but it was. Then they tell you about hell. Even if not directly, it is talked about. You at least pick up on it if no one directly tells you. And so much worse if someone tells you directly. You are told what you have learned is wrong. It cant be trusted. You are told things you had no idea existed and frankly are very suspicious of as they are horrible to hear, are true. That if you and those you love dont follow this strange way of thinking will burn for all eternity when you die. Its about that death thing too. Your psyche, your identity, is pummelled by horrific concepts that go against your best judgments. The fear of death and eternal torture is put into your mind. By your caretakers. And they call it love. This is incredibly painful and traumatic. Why do so many people do so many bad things? Especially for faith. Because they were traumatized and told wrong is right. Evil is good. How we are born and exist is bad. We truamatize the minds and identities of our children and believe fictional stories and gods as justification for it. Why do school children kill their peers for being LGBTQ? Because of nature? Or because they were traumatized repeatedly by their caregivers and have been led to violent action against those they carry prejudice against? Religion bludgeons the minds and identities of children to become fertile soil for atrocities. Look at Isreal. Committing genocide based upon trauma and fiction. If you look at anyone and everyone of those in Isreal commiting these crimes, you will find early childhood trauma. It is not exclusive to religion, but it is a required pattern in religion. Get them while they are young. They admit this. They know if they can indoctrinate them young enough you will have a faithful follower for life. This is the result of trauma indoctrination. It is a crime against humanity. The religious call it parental rights. I call it for what it is, a crime against humanity.

Religion is belief and submission to man made gods. At no time do these thousands of gods ever make an appearance in the reality that surrounds those who believe in them.

I agree 100% with religion being a mild form of child abuse since i delt with that most of my life as a Jehovah's Witness and the reasons for my lack of trust and my social anxiety. Telling a child if you do X or Y that you won't make it thru Armageddon or not letting a child be a part of bdays or holidays and making them an outcast is abuse. Telling any child any of this is disgusting especially when they themselves can't answer a question i asked when i was 8.

In 2002 I was pronounced clinically brain dead, not near death experience. I experienced death and I have full authority in saying there was no God nor heaven no devil and no hell, all there was , is the memory of coming back. That's it.

You can see the allure of being religious despite its history of immoral aggressions…..The church provides a supportive community for the lonely…….peoples blind faith provides them Hope……Prayer gives them someone(yourself) to talk to (yourself) especially during high stress moments. It’s quite easy to see that happening in the rural areas where living is in a bubble world, as a young boy I lived that, unless you start really questioning things you will continue to live that way. Unfortunately in small towns most will be sheep and follow the religious crowds.

In my mind the greatest harm religion does is to communicate and model a use of language that consists of mere words reflecting only emotional content without any conceptual connection to reality. This way of thinking may spill over into other areas of life---politics for example.

Yeah, it's true. Although in my case I really bought into it as a child of partially my own volition. It was mostly internalised; rarely, if ever, reflected onto people external to me. I was in my late 30s after decades of a rather horrible existence that I reluctantly accepted nobody "up there" gave a hoot about me. I'm currently detaching myself and unlearning decades of behaviour.

Honestly, ideology in general is just bad, Christianity, the people who think and pretend that Israel is not committing war crimes, modern gender ideology, all the same issue. Ideology, to put it simply, in many cases the issue comes when people suspend their ability to think logically for the sake of some belief. It's often associated with tribal thinking, and can be seen on the left, the right, and most politics in general these days, which leads to us being unable to actually achieve anything. Ideology is bad, no matter if your tribe does it, or the other tribe. Sadly, many "atheists" also miss that part which means they are not really atheists, just part of a tribe that happens to not believe in god for ideological reasons. It's a tragedy how few people these days have retained the ability to think logically.

Remove religion from the world and what would we have? Very little difference. The problem is that people are broken. Man's greed, lust for power, addiction to passions and emotional storms, willingness to abuse or kill others would simply express itself under some other rationales. And quite possibly the good ideals that religion encourages in people would be missed. After all, the consciences we all have are under constant attack with the temptation to put selfishness first. We all need encouragement to do good.

I'm watching The Tudors tv series these days. The second law - Renge - Ren meaning cause and ge meaning effect, governs and controls the functions of Myoho - these two laws of Myoho and Renge, not only function together simultaneously but also underlies all spiritual and physical existence. The final and third part of the tri-combination - Kyo, is the Law that allows Myoho to integrate with Renge - or vice versa. It’s the great, invisible thread of energy that fuses and connects all Life and matter - as well as the past, present and future. It’s also sometimes termed the Universal Law of Communication - perhaps it could even be compared with the string theory that many scientists now suspect exists. Just as the cells in our body, our thoughts, feelings and everything else is continually fluctuating within us - all that exists in the world around us and beyond is also in a constant state of flux - constantly controlled by these three fundamental laws. In fact, more things are going back and forth between the two states of Myo and ho in a single moment than it would ever be possible to calculate or describe. Even stars are dying and being reborn under the workings of what the combination ‘Myoho-Renge-Kyo’ represents. Nam, or Namu - which mean the same thing, are vibrational passwords or keys that allow us to reach deep into our life and fuse with or become one with ‘Myoho-Renge-Kyo’. On a more personal level, nothing ever happens by chance or coincidence, it’s the causes that we’ve made in our past, or are presently making, that determine how these laws function uniquely in each of our lives - as well as the environment from moment to moment. By facing east, in harmony with the direction that the Earth is spinning, and chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo for a minimum of, let’s say, ten minutes daily to start with, any of us can experience actual proof of its positive effects in our lives - even if it only makes us feel good on the inside, there will be a definite positive effect. That’s because we’re able to pierce through the thickest layers of our karma and activate our inherent Buddha Nature (our enlightened state). By so doing, we’re then able to bring forth the wisdom and good fortune that we need to challenge, overcome and change our adverse circumstances - turn them into positive ones - or manifest and gain even greater fulfilment in our daily lives from our accumulated good karma. This also allows us to bring forth the wisdom that can free us from the ignorance and stupidity that’s preventing us from accepting and being proud of the person that we indeed are - regardless of our race, colour, gender or sexuality. We’re also able to see and understand our circumstances and the environment far more clearly, as well as attract and connect with any needed external beneficial forces and situations. As I’ve already mentioned, everything is subject to the law of Cause and Effect - the ‘actual-proof-strength’ resulting from chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo always depends on our determination, sincerity and dedication. For example, the levels of difference could be compared to making a sound on a piano, creating a melody, producing a great song, and so on. Something else that’s very important to always respect and acknowledge is that the Law (or if you prefer God) is in everyone and everything. NB: There are frightening and disturbing sounds, and there are tranquil and relaxing sounds. It’s the emotional result of any noise or sound that can trigger off a mood or even instantly change one. When chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo each day, we are producing a sound vibration that’s the password to our true inner-self - this soon becomes apparent when you start reassessing your views on various things - such as your fears and desires etc. The best way to get the desired result when chanting is not to view things conventionally - rather than reaching out to an external source, we need to reach into our own lives and bring our needs and desires to fruition from within - including the good fortune and strength to achieve any help that we may need. Chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo also reaches out externally and draws us towards, or draws towards us, what we need to make us happy from our environment. For example, it helps us to be in the right place at the right time - to make better choices and decisions and so forth. We need to think of it as a seed within us that we’re watering and bringing sunshine to for it to grow, blossom and bring forth fruit or flowers. It’s also important to understand that everything we need in life, including the answer to every question and the potential to achieve every dream, already exists within us.

As for examples of religious harm there are plenty. There are the explicit ones like harmful dictates of religious leaders. There are more ambient ones like how religion teaches some very bad thinking habits. There's the general refusal to admit anything that goes against the religion, no matter how obvious. That will due for starters.

It is easy to criticize religion. Anyone can do that. Get past that basic obvious point. Take it to the next step. Can religion be reformed or replaced with something else? That is what the discussion should be.

Seek those who misuse it. Not throw the blame around ignore things

Religion promotes not thinking for oneself, to allow someone else to think for you and tell you right from wrong and how to live. Religion tells people not to accept themselves and certainly not others; you have to give up who you truly are and so should everyone else. Condemn those who live and think differently from your special little group. Religion says you aren't enough as you are and you aren't deserving, but the very thing that created you and condemned you also loves you and wants to save you. It's a perfect being who somehow makes zero mistakes yet screwed up creating people. (???) Religion is "let those of us better than you guide you because you're too dumb (i.e. trying to live your life your way, but we disagree with that) to live without us telling us what to do". I am a Christian with faith These are my thoughts, Religion is neutral as it is irrational beliefs, it isn't good or bad but both good and bad it is interpretations and ideas that makes it good or bad, and when people are found wanting because of bad deeds they hide behind Thier faith, stating the devil told me, or it is God's will that guided my hand, but no influence had any hand in your own actions, that is partly why Atheistism is a thing, because of the idea people use religion to do bad things, and also evidence facts served well. I used to be an atheist and would've aligned strongly with this video. I am now in my 40's and a father of 2. With that, I hope, I've gained some wisdom. And that wisdom shows me that it's the definition of God, of religion that is not understood (not to say I understand it) and individual or groups interpretations and practice of it that causes conflict. I now think that religion and scriptures is an attempt to describe something that is often termed "divine". That divine thing is often described as things like morals and "good". I used to say, I don't need a book or religion to tell me what is good and bad or right and wrong. I feel it. I think religion is just an attempt or a method to formalise whatever that feeling is. It contains teachings and stories and situations that show some(small small amount) of all possible situations distilled into those stories. And those stories are a guide to help people learn and experience those situations so you can learn from them without having to live that experience. Like, not killing someone to find out that it's bad. I'm not religious. But I am spiritual now. And I think the Bible (I've never read but learn from others the contents), and other scriptures, and their respective religions are a guide, a suggestion, of how to understand the world from the experiences of those that have come before us. Take what is good and use it. Leave behind what is bad. That would be a good approach no matter if you believe in it or not.

there are many religions in the world. but only a handful who have constantly been at war. wars in ancient days were for many reasons but not religion. the wars that are still fought today have been the same wars for the past few centuries. so what does that tell us about their religion !? and worse, where are their gods throughout those centuries ?

Religion does more harm than good because it isn’t based on reality. People believe so strongly in a fantasy, so much so that they think others that don’t share their fantasy should be killed. It’s in their books. Books written so long ago and so poorly that people interpret them in many different ways. While people hold religious fantasies you can never have world peace. Religions also teach people to trust their feelings not science, feelings have been proven to be very unreliable, where science has a much better track record, because it has to, it’s constantly tested and adjusted to fit reality. How does a religious person know that those voices they hear are not god speaking to them? A non religious person will see they need help when the voices tell them to burn the orphanage, a religious person burns the orphanage, because god told them to.

We did so well in technology - if you doubt that think of one thing you use everyday that wasn't invented in a Christian country, our economy's were better than today but the more we move away from Christianity the worse things get.
