I have been renting my 2015 Corvette Stingray and 2014 Jaguar F-Type S V8 Convertible on Turo for over a year now, and it's turned out to be an absolute nightmare. I'm losing money on the cars, Turo has horrible customer service, all of our cars have been damaged, and we have to deal with demanding customers that don't respect our property.

I noticed this as he continued to speak. Maybe it's not a good idea to have so many exotic vehicles in the beginning if you are not ready to incur the cost of ownership. The platforms will always side with the customers. Customer service is KEY.

This is the SAME EXACT experience we have with renting our vacation home on airbnb. Tons of minor damage because people are careless and aren't as careful with someone else's property as they are their own. Not to mention the headache of always trying to make sure everything is 100% perfect because of fear of negative reviews. It often feels like a second job.

I think you’re generalizing bit. I think most people SAW Turo and AirBnB as a good idea. And on paper they kinda are. But once they had everyone’s attention they decided all the money belongs to them. Now they’re just sitting back and taking a cut of everyone else’s work off renting assets/liabilities that they don’t own.

I used to rent out a 911 on Turo with a partner that we bought for the purpose of renting it. They are a terrible company to work with. I quit renting it out & sold the car after dealing with the same issues as you.

Numerous typically go in with good rates & policies so their service gets good adaption by the public (both sides in a peer to peer) then once they have a good user base they start changing their policies bit by bit and up their cut of the take as the middle men, especially in the lead up to a IPO so the venture capitalists and the startup founders can make lots of Fk you money.

@@smathers3104 I think the real problem is like uber, they set low rates to initially generate customers and popularity and Buzz but it's not financially feasible. So they have to raise rates and hope they can still retain the users to actually make profit. If they start out with the policies that they have now they would never generate any type of Interest.

While startups all want to become filthy rich on the IPO or when getting bought out by bigger tech company, changing policies and upping rates bit by bit is also about edging the company towards long term sustainability when the venture capital funding dries up. I get it from a financial perspective but from a user perspective finding you are increasingly getting nickel & dimed a number of times a year and what was a great service is now not so much does not make users (well the providers of labour/assets side) fans of the business.

@@normalguysupercar It'd be great to hear a review of these two cars one of these days since they look so similar. I almost bought an F-Type convertible back when they first came out. It was a blast to drive with the top down. But then with the top up, it felt claustrophobic and hard to see out of so I backed off. Good luck selling them!

This is so true dude. People do suck! I tried Turo with my BMW and I decided to remove it from their platform after my first trip. People don’t give a crap about what’s not theirs. It is so not worth it. The guy scratched my rear bumper which I didn’t think I could report since it is a scratch. When I called a Turo representative they said this kind of issue needs to be reported. That’s why I reported it but my call was to remove my car and cancel all upcoming trips. People are ridiculous.

Thanks so much for the video. I was thinking about doing the same thing and you explained it very well pretty much answered my questions. It is clear that it would be a mistake to own a car just to rent on Turo. However I suppose renting out your own vehicle would not be as bad since you pay for it anyways and use it for yourself. Even 2 bookings per month would suffice and help to pay off the lease/insurance costs.

First, ❤️ the channel. I’m a P car guy myself but found it as I was doing research on a possible 488 purchase (if I don’t grab another GT car first 😝). Secondly, I have been running my own businesses for the past decade and one of my top pieces of advice is to always be extremely cautious of marketplaces. The exotic/high end car rental business wasn’t the problem, the marketplace being used to facilitate the rentals was the issue. Anytime you “partner” with a marketplace and integrate with it to the point it’s a core part of your business, you are extremely vulnerable to any changes (good and bad) that they choose to make. Other good examples of this are Amazon and eBay. I’m also surprised Turo didn’t have an option to register as a business. Using a business entity for the registration, login, etc would have made a lot of those administrative tasks a bit easier. Anyway, thanks for the awesome content and keep it coming!

The only experience I ever had with them was dropping a family member off to pick up a car they rented through the app. I have been seeing them marketing pretty heavily recently through Instagram ads. Their ads always show a couple young guys with supercars and the ad copy goes something like "These guys user Turo to afford their dream cars..." That right there got me suspicious, and your video pretty much confirmed its utter crap lmao Best of luck with the sale!

I rent out my porsche carrera s and i just use ONR to wash it. Literally a sponge and a bucket and wipe down your car. No need for rinse, 5 minute wash and the car is looking clean forever.

Woow I'm surprised you feel this way, first of all partnering up for cars dont make sense to me personally. You have a Ferrari in your garage so you clearly can afford any car. I have 2 cars a 2019 Durango SRT and a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT granted my monthly payments are over $800 for each but I've been turning a profit. Not sure if its because I'm near new york. Also they did total one of my new cars lol turo took care of it all and I even got like 2k extra and went and picked up the same car again.

Love your honesty Dan, at no point would I ever consider hiring out a car of mine to anyone for all the reasons you mention , here in the UK nobody has respect for anything , getting damage repairs done caused by others is one thing, chasing your tail for payment , jumping through hoops , endless litigation and arguing your case is quite another and as for this "turo" thing, it sounds just like ebay, constantly moving the goal posts of terms and conditions aswell as the buy and sell fees , always in favour of the buyer and not an honest seller and all the negative feedback that goes with it and that's why I don't deal with any of that anymore either.......Anyway back to Ferrari D.I.Y s 👍👍

Welcome to the sharing economy, where you should share everything (your time, work, assets), everything but the profit. This has been the business model of AirBnB, Uber and more, create very little value but collect a huge profit margin being a middle man, then cutting the service back so you are guilty until you proof your self innocent. I did test renting out 2 cars of mine, had 3 at the time, much more sensible than a Jaguar and Corvette since both were Honda CR-V so they never break, require minimum maintenance but i found i spent about 5-8 hours per rental and it basically made the cars free for the whole year to own, but let´s say 55-88 hours over the summer time spent in rentals, i could easily do a few electrical jobs and service the car and make more money, plus kilometers piled up on the cars reducing the value at the same time. Big car rentals seem to be making around 10% off total invested money, so you have 1000$ worth of cars you might be able to pay 100$ in dividend, not a great business - mainly because anyone can do it, so the margins are very low.

So, the car rental industry is a 100 Billion dollar industry and you believe it's not a way to make money? I understand that you have no clue what you are commenting on but go to the website and read the rules. If you do that it will make you sound much less dense in the future. Not just anyone can rent any car. You for example could not rent a high end car on Turo, you need a deposit in advance.....

Another fun one is if your car qualifies and you are renting it then it ages out or policy changes nothing happens until someone crashes it and they say it's not covered because th car doesn't qualify to be on turo.

You said it, i live 15 minutes from heartsfeild Jackson international Airport! I have 2015 Taurus and a 2015 malibu. The total price of these cars is 11000 each. The scratches you showed will be nothing to me I'll keep renting until they are paid off

Awesome video calling out Turo from renter perspective. It would be interesting to see a quick finance snapshot of how the finances worked for the whole pool, particularly how much Turo took away from your capital and labour.

@@normalguysupercar Outrageous greed, especially for the amount of Turo's investment in the car fleet. This essentially is a sales & service commission, which is typically in the 10-20% range, but obviously varies by industry-role-deal size-country. No wonder you, the investor in capital equipment, maintenance, and cleaning couldn't make money with Turo. This would be another good video to flush out.

@@normalguysupercar The big rental car companies like Avis used to "buy" fleet cars and take "loans" to finance the fleet; the interest was a major expense, albeit a tax deduction. They hoped for high utilisitation and high rates to cover cash operating and borrowing costs. They had to negotiate with big carmakers for lowest car fleet purchase costs (biggest customers of carmakers). They also had to manage gain/loss of eventual sale of fleet cars; some hoped for break-even of car sales, always fearing crash of used car market. Business models vary by country based on tax schemes, registration rules, etc. Today, I suppose big rental car company fleet financing schemes have "evolved" but they are still same basic business running small operating profits with massive leverage on huge fleet. Also, the game changed with zipcar, uber, etal. killing margins.

I use Turo to lessen the damage caused by my car buying habit. I've been on it for 10 months and have generated a few thousand dollars plus their $500 travel credit promotion. It's been decent, but I have had damage and smoking in my cars that Turo reimbursed me for-for the most part.

I have to say I was renting and hosting when Turo was formerly Relay Rides. A year after Turo took over I stopped hosting. I didn’t have any horrible experiences and although I am no longer a host, I still rent and have had just one “bad” experience which was an owner error. Thank goodness I didn’t have any issues when hosting.

Thanks for your honesty. Sooo many are in mad denial, posting vids of every damaging week of the Turo experience, yet they push on, and buy more vehicles for their fleet, only to have Turo sneak adjust the age that a person must be to rent out certain tiers of vehicle types. Yet you told the observed truth with a smile. Airports should sell off some land for rideshare and rental parking, at hourly, daily, weekly and monthly rates, but it would not matter, it is still a financial loss, with pain and suffering on top of depreciation. I hope your buddies thanked you for chipping in on their fat L for a bit.

Would it be a crime to get personal info on past good clientele, and work personally with 5 clients, put out a 6 month sched they can jot down on, with shaded areas that show dates other clients have sheduled, get a contract and deposit down to claim those dates, use Messenger with location services activated, blocking you is considered auto theft, use your own full coverage, full comprehensive, multidriver permitted insurance, have the client sign a medical coverage 100% waiver and fly solo, offer your own lil referral program, messenger only works with solid FB accounts now, so you can get a backround check of sorts, and "friend" a client that is interested and serious, because once you make contact with messenger, it unlocks viewing their account on FB, which was the point of FB marketplace, because people would sell or buy on sell group pages, but have their account locked from not friended people, and all negative comments were public, where a more clueless buyer would be scared off, and there is messenger and FB money exchange, or just paypal, just never force them to be on their phone or "active" while driving. Uber, Lyft and Turo were in my mind inteded for gathering clients, then branch off that app to be a private Livery for the solid clients, then pop on to gether new ones, occaisionally. If you just wanna retire, that is cool, too...lol

buy residential 3 bedroom homes, fixer uppers if you know people or are handy in Texas although I am staying put in California because I had my dream house built in 1976, many , many Californians are fed up and are moving to Texas! I suspect you are more likely to make money using "beaters" but then you'd have to do a LOT more rentals, and deal with a lower caliber of renter. Probably not something I'd personally be interested in.

I wouldnt even rent that out because that car is a classic, the only, only car I would ever loan out are toyotas and hondas because they have a reliable rep and who cares if they have dings and dents or someone spills a coffee in it, its a toyota or honda.

I stumbled upon your video and as a person who rented out two normal cars for almost 3 years now I couldn’t agree more with you as a host. Initially,Turo’s process and fees were reasonable but over the years the quality of support has severely dropped and just not worth the headache as a business.

Helped my family get a 2019 Toyota RAV4 about 6-8 months ago. They thought it would be a great idea to rent it on Turo, 2 months in and there's a great big yellow bumper dent from one of the past renters, and nobody is bothered to get it fixed now. I also got wanted the RAV4 because of the trunk space, as it's a big upgrade from my regular commuter car trunk. But because it's always being rented I never get to use it like it wanted... Turo sucks and I wish my family never heard of it!
