Samoa is home to the nicest people in the world. Even the street sellers are all really nice, and won't hassle you say you're interested in what they're selling. I spent a week there and every single person I met there was awesome. However, if you do go there, be warned - it's bloody hot!

yes but most of them are already "east" as in timelinewise or will never be east - which defines the "lebensraum" - and now that samoa got from -11 to +(dont know anymore) it counts as "east" too - so its the new land of hope, the new "lebensraum" that needs to be anschluss(-ed) gosh in english that sounds sooo bad :P

The Prime Meridian in the Greenwhich observatory isnt wrong. Ist just based on an other simualtioned sphere that worked best for great brittain back when the observatory was built. Tom Scott has a whole good Video about it.

You got the Chinese time wrong. The time zone is more (or less) in line with Beijing. Sunrise/sunset are 'normal' in the east, while Tibet and Xinjiang are WAY off (clock-wise).

To be honest, I think the PRC's approach actually makes sense. I'd be all in favour of a single timezone for the entire globe; having set times to wake up and go back to sleep is just as much of a human-made convention as timezones are, and adjusting to the idea you'll wake up at (say) 20:00 and go to bed at 11:00 is less of hassle than having to convert times on every occassion you talk to somebody from another timezone.

You wouldn't change a thing regarding the necessary conversion, even add more difficulty to it. Because we have the timezones, we know the business hours of locations. If we hadn't timezones and everyone would stick to the sun, we would need much more information or calculation to determine when we can reach someone. Or do you think stores in New York would be open from 8 am GMT to 7 pm GMT? ;)

+Siegfried Schwab I rewatched it after reading the original post and saw what I thought was the cedar was actually the eagle (or whatever bird of prey the Austrian code of arms has) in the middle of that flag, but the architecture of the building looked way too neoclassical to be from the Middle East.

VirtuallyChoco It's not wrong. The white line represents every land that uses 8+ (china, parts of Mongolia and Russia, Taiwan and Philipines).

To those saying China is not wrong ... It is. I think that what @VirtuallyChoco is mentionning here is that the time are switched. Eastern China is AHEAD of Western China. So When it's 7am by the Sun in eastern China it's 3am by the sun in wester china. The same way that when it's midnight in London it's 8am in Beijing

Julien Tricheux its right, you're the one interpreting it wrong. Sunrise in western China is at 7.30 am, while eastern at 3.30 am. China only had 1 timezone, +8, so your london - beijing comparison is wrong.
