I used to tell my grandchildren that they kept me young and active. I loved sitting on the floor to play with them. They were my motivation for getting down and back up from the floor. Last year they moved far away. Now it’s up to me to motivate myself to stay active. You are right on with these exercises and the reasons for doing them. Thank you for your helpful and motivating videos for seniors.
Eric, I started getting on the floor and "flopping" around doing various exercises I see on You Tube. I think just getting up is the best exercise. With Winter fast approaching it sure is important to be able to get up off the ground. I can really relate to the things you are saying and showing. Thanks for Sharing!
i have some seniors come to me and ask for only standing exercises because they dont like floor ones as they have to struggle to get up LOL!!! hopefully they will see the video and understand the importance. thanks you!!!
It helps to just design movement into your everyday life. I am 66 years old. I recently moved into an apartment and intentionally rented one that was on the third floor. Although the building does have an elevator, I use the stairs every time instead. I also got a small dog. She is great company, but more than that...she requires daily walks and outside playtime. Also, she needs to go out multiple times a day to "do her business". This adds many more trips on those stairs! Keeps us both in good shape I think.
I found a professional Physical Therapy table at a Thrift Shop, which has been fantastic to do "floor exercises", but they sell them on Amazon for various prices and I'd say having one is well worth the investment. No, I didn't find exercising on my bed to work well.
Well, I wasn’t far off. Fortunately for my case, a back specialist doctor gave me the first two exercises you showed as part of the regimen to deal with the periformis syndrome, so it is part of my go-to activity. With legs shoulder width apart, I am able to raise and lower myself from and to the floor… at 75. Hope to continue into my eighties. Thanks for this video.👍
I found your channel recently and love the way that your videos are short and to the point. Also that they are targeted specifically at older people. Thank you for your work!
@@Elizabeth-yg2mg yes, it is. A friend (nurse) told me a long time ago to keep up the thigh muscles because it is a very common cause of people not being able live alone in later years. It impressed me so indelibly that I have really made it a routine like teeth brushing to do squats and other leg strengthening activities ever since.
@@ace6285 How humiliating not to be able to get up off the toilet; I am only 65 and will keep up the squats. Business idea--"Toitie Hoist"--over the toilet ceiling hoist--see it soon on Shark Tank...
Thanks!! My doctor told me to sit in a chair & stand up with your hands every day He said that is the first skill seniors loose. He also said it is sad we make seniors not use stairs as exercise because soon they cannot even walk up a curb.
I am now encouraged to do more on the floor. It is too easy to get hooked on using benches or gym machines and lose the ability to work/play/function at ground level.
Oh, how I needed this! I HATE getting on the floor because it takes an act of Congress to get up. Do you have any exercises or videos to help us get up easier? I live alone and if I should ever fall, God help me. If you have any guidance on how to get up once you get down there, please share! Thank you and I will be waiting, lol!!!
BEFORE you van run you have to learn how you walk .so BEFORE I can do excercices on the floor you have to learn me how to GET on the floor and that isn't simple
Excellent Thanks Eric for encouraging folks to start exercising on the ground. I heard that weak glutes are an important why reason why seniors have balance problems, is that true?
