I was born and raised in Ireland, yet my parents are Polish, I've always had a Polish upbringing. Polish food, Polish friends, Going to see family in Poland every summer and stuff like that. I'm just a simple 12 year old kid- nothing else- but the problem is- my parents never taught me Polish because they thought there was no need for it since because I would speak English in school. Yet my cousins went to weekend Polish classes before they moved back to Poland. I just always felt so envy, because I really wanted to learn Polish but the problem was I had to do myself, I was taught a little bit of Polish, BUT I never got to finish it. Especially whenever you have like friends that their parents come from the country as your parents, which can be useful so you can communicate in your native language, unlike me all my friends talked Polish so well. In school I always got help because I speaked another language, which made me feel like I was dumb because I needed more help than the people in my class who speaked English as their native language and everytime I said to a new teacher, (Miss or Mrs) ____ for example, oh that's alright- so you'll need more support, ..... I was always annoyed when teachers said this- and sometimes people giggled behind my back, I just felt so sad. Now I'm in Secondary/Middle School- and things have got better- I'm learning French and Spanish plus English in School, and in my free time I learn German,Polish and Italian. Dzien dobry! One of my professors once recommended I learn Polish since it would be "unique" but also common enough that I can use it when working on Central European affairs. So far I've been loving it- I get to watch and understand so many Polish films :D

I think the argument "Why learn a language that is only spoken in one country, you will never have a chance to use it?" is no longer valid. People travel so much these days and work in different places. The chances that you meet a native speaker are much higher than 20 years ago. Especially, if it's a language spoken on your continent.

He is incredible especially as he learnt Polish as a mature student. The best age to learn a language is when one is 6 years old. I was sent to a French/English school, at that age, having only spoken Polish. It took several weeks to be fluent without much effort. Well done Luca!!

Język polski daje wspaniały wstęp do mandaryńskiego, przynajmniej jeśli chodzi o fonetykę. Tłumaczyłem Chińczykom wymowę używając transkrypcji pinyin.

Good video! My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. Thanks to the author of the channel for this interesting video! Good luck to everyone who studies a foreign language and wants to realize their full potential!

I'm totally shocked about Luca's pronunciation. Some people forgot to mention wide historical and cultural aspect.

My native language is Russian. Last year I took a Polish A1 course at my uni just because I love languages and Poland is our neighbor (i live in Berlin). Now I finished my A1 course and I can understand the most of the thing you guys are talking about. I want to jump straight to B2 next semester (before that I will watch some videos in Polish and also use DuoLinguo to be prepared haha). I would say 70%-80% of vocabulary is similar/the same as in Russian. The grammar is very similar although the Polish grammar is more conservative hence (a bit?)more complicated. I'm also planning to play The Witcher 1 completely in Polish soon (text and audio). Just to learn Polish even better and to discover this universe, never played/read/watched The Witcher before. What is my motivation? Well, probably the fact that I can learn a new language so quickly and so easily. I feels cool. The quick success is my motivator. And it's also nice to discover one more culture. I want to spend in Poland some time, maybe do volunteering or work for several months. Polish is my sixth language. I speak perfect Russian, English and German. Currently doing my B1 course in Spanish and French. Gonna start learning Norwegian next semester.

Have been learning and have a highly intriguing story of how I started! Mostly what helped me at the start (as always) is learning the list of Poland’s monarchs, along with their epithets. Plus, as a pianist and composer, it does feel like a window into the world of Chopin and Moniuszko…

There seems to be steretype among polish people, that Polish is the most dificullt language to learn. I think, this depends mainly on what you native tongue is, if slavic, it may not be so difficult, because of similarities. Maybe I start to learn polish this year, to prove it? Do nauki innych języków się przydaje polski. Dowolnych języków. Przykład z własnego doświadczenia: pierwszy miesiąc nauki chińskiego to tak naprawdę ćwiczenia wymowy poszczególnych dźwięków. Z perspektywy kogoś, kto włada polskim, jedyne, czego się trzeba nauczyć, to Ü (a robi się to, wymawiając "u", ale układając usta jak do "i"), bo takie rzeczy jak rozróżnienie od siebie dź od dż oraz dzi albo ć od ź już "jest". Najzabawniejsze, że to jest zdolność nieuświadomiona, bo dopiero jak zaczęliśmy mieć na zajęciach także Francuza, to można było odczuć jakim zmaganiem może być wymowa, taka przecież oczywista. No bo jak to tak, pomylić sz z zi?

For me personally, Polish has been more difficult than my C1 level of Chinese, it's harder to listen and translate in my head because the words run together with harder differentiating sounds, where Chinese is tonal and naturally the words sort of separate. (Nevermind writing!)

Dla wszystkich tych uważających język polski za najtrudniejszy: Trudność języka zależy od tego, do jakiej grupy językowej twój język przynależy i do jakich jest ci najbliżej. Toteż dla Polaka nauczyć się czeskiego będzie łatwiej niżby tureckiego. Dla Syryjczyka ta relacja będzie zupełnie odwrotna. Dlatego ogólnie dla german czy roman trudno będzie się nauczyć choćby jednego z języków słowiańskich, w którym występują głoski ż, sz, cz itp. Pytanie czy pośród tej grupy języków słowiańskich polski jest najtrudniejszy? Nie wiem, wiem jednak, że bariery graficznej nie ma, bo posługujemy się alfabetem łacińskim, nie to co Słowianie wschodni czy część Słowian południowych. Nasz język ma wiele odmian, deklinacja rzeczowników choćby, ale nie mamy wiele czasów, aż dwa (czas przeszyły i czas nieprzeszły) i dwa aspekty (dokonany i niedokonany), także zawsze coś kosztem czegoś. Z pewnością dla Niemców byłoby łatwiej nauczyć się Polskiego niżby Estońskiego czy Finlandzkiego, Węgierskiego czy innego egzotycznego języka. Dlatego kończąc trudność języka zależy od tego jakim językiem się już posługujesz i ja daleko temu językowi jest do nowego języka, którego chcesz się nauczyć. Pozdrawiam.

1:10 Zgadzam się z koleżanką! Ja próbuję się nauczyć celtyckiego irlandzkiego i Afrikaans m.in. z tego powodu (pomijam, że bardzo podoba mi się ich brzmienie). Niestety są bardzo, bardzo trudne i myślę, że kontynuacja nauki bez nauczyciela (native speakera) nie przyniesie oczekiwanych skutków. :/

As a Polish I would say that polish sounds like broken radio: śszczszszszzszszczżżzzźźźźźszcz....... I 'm very impresed by Luka's knowledge of polish language and his pronounciation. He is so good in polish, that I would say he is a master.

How I miss this city.

Bardzo ciekawy program. What I see often poses a difficultly in pronunciation is what I would describe as a rollercoaster of sounds, e.g. ż (like in French bon_J_our), ź, ś and sz (sh). So for example in the mentioned word DOŚWIADCZENIE, during mental preparation to pronounce correctly the "CZ" (ch) sound, the preceding "Ś" is pronounced incorrectly as SZ (sh). What helps then is reversing the order -- WIADCZENIE, then DOŚ. Saying this several times in a row makes the word sound correctly. (Of course the "D" in this particular case sounds like "T", as even Polish is not fully phonetic). For a foreigner living in Poland wanting to start learning Polish even basic skill opens a wealth of possibilities, beginning with the perception of wanting to integrate to some degree, as opposed to isolating oneself from the flow of life around.

Drodzy Polacy, po co mówicie, że polski to jeden z najtrudniejszych języków świata. Jednym z "najszeleszczących", to może tak. Ale gramatyka jest całkiem spoko, a nacisk na przedostatnią sylabę to czyste złoto! No i wymawiacie wyrazy tak, jak są zapisane przynajmniej w języku literackim. Normalny macie jezyk: ani łatwy, ani trudny, tak w sam raz! 😼

Zaletą nauki jezyka polskiego jest to że można się nim porozumieć w wielu miejscach na świecie bo gdzie nie pojedziesz to wszędzie znajdzesz jakiegoś Polaka z którym będziesz mógł pogadać i się z nim napić. Ten Włoch ma na prawdę świetny akcent i wymowe .

You can survive without Polish but it's definitely much easier when you know at least the basics. You can't really on even young people speaking English. It's always a lottery they can speak great English or not all. Polish people really appreciate when you try to speak Polish. Completely different mentality to Germany where they expect you to speak fluent German from day one.
