Why should you wear earplugs when riding?

I talk about protecting your hearing and wearing earplugs while riding a bike. It's a subject that often divides opinion. I've always worn ear plugs when riding and personally think you're mad if you don't! Why?
Well prolonged exposure to sounds over 85 dB can permanently damage your hearing. Wind noise is the biggest cause of noise when riding and wind noise can generate 90 dB at just 50mph.
For me it's a no brainer!

Hope this doesn't fall upon deaf ears; if a person was in the work place and noise was a health factor there would be a legal obligation for the employer to protect the employee. So, definitely a good idea for the individual to protect themselves in their own leisure time by using the same guidance. www.hse.gov.uk/NOISE/REGULATIONS.HTM Best Regards, Sir Gissachance

Just started using foam plugs; the cheapies fall out so not much use but I got a set of two shorter plugs in a plastic carry case for £3.50 from J&S and they're great. Good vid - thanks.

I started riding in aug last year, then stopped oct cuz snow. I thought of wearing earplugs when riding but not sure how I would talk to my riding buddies ( we dont have coms yet) Think I might start wearing htem now though lmao

What's that white stuff on the ground? Are you in Norway? :) I must admit I always wear earplugs, although my Dr tells me I've 'compacted my earwax' Sorry...TMI... probably as a result of wearing the foam type that seem to give me the best protection. What ear protection do you use?

Hi Paul - lol not it was Wiltshire way, filmed in March when we hate that late snow fest. I was on my way to Castle Coomb for a track day - was quite an interesting experience!! I have a stash of the yellow foam earplugs which have worked fine for me, but I also have a pair of custom made Ultimate Ear squidgy ones which are just amazing. Thanks for watching

Me and my friends never wore ear plugs and we didn’t damage our ears . Don’t forget your ears are against the padding of the helmet , then there is the helmet it self. So I don’t know where you get your figures from? Has anyone actually measured the sound by your ear inside the helmet , answer NO

My wife used them and then she got an ear infection. So she took antibiotics for it and fell pregnant because antibiotics Weaken the contraceptive pill . My first daughter. So wear earplugs people as it will save your hearing and you might end up a dad lol. I should get some really. It would be good if we could test the noise levels. Nice vid

Yes sorry mate I am doing a vid next week. It's not that easy for me because my other half is not keen on me doing it plus other things get in the way. I have loads to film. I am going to go for a big ride across Europe with absolutely nothing booked apart from the crossing. If i end up getting lost then even better. We have so much structure in our lives I want to feel like a nomad. Does that sound crazy. A little taste of total freedom no Bills , Deadlines , Keeping others happy nothing. All I know is I am turning right off the Euro tunnel. I am going to attempt to film it all if I can. Lost in the Big World Lol

Lol - that should be the tag line of an advert! Both my kids arrived in unexpected fashion but that was probably more to do with a couple of extra beers that I shouldn't have had! Thanks for watching.
