Why Skate 4 is a Potential Disaster

I’ve been saying this exact thing, I’m worried about this game when it releases, especially with the fact that EA’s old game development team Blackbox has been shut down years ago and they were responsible for developing the entire Skate series and many other great games at the times, unfortunately I don’t think this new team has the same or similar drives and intentions the old one did especially since many people within blackbox were interested in real skate culture. As a player of the Skate. Pre-Alpha (i never played any of the Skate games, only THPS and TH:Underground) this is what i've got to say about the game: + The gameplay seemed correct. Idk how it compares to Skate 3 but you could do some really cool tricks and none of it felt "floaty" + The town has a bunch of dedicated "spots" that are designed as basically integrated skate-parks in the city. In each one of them you can take up multiple challenges such as score attacks or picking up letters like in THPS. You have leaderboards and stuff, and you can take them up with people in your lobby too. + Oh yeah, so by default you get thrown into the city with like 20-50 other people in your lobby. You'll see them even if you're doing a solo challenge. It makes the game feel very lively. I think they want to add alot of social features, like the group challenges but maybe more stuff. There's quite alot of potential there. Here's some of my concerns; - From what i've gathered in Skate 3, the city definetly is adapted for skating, but it still feels like a massive, livable city (akin to open-worlds like GTA) and not like a big skatepark. In New Skate, the city is quite small (might be because it's just a first version) and it all feels like a big playground, or a big skate park playing dress-up. It doesn't feel like the kind of city you'd actually want to get lost in and play around, outside of doing lines. Basically it doesn't feel like an actually livable/lived-in city. Kind of like the arenas you'd see in a game like Overwatch or COD. - There's not much elevation at all. It's a very flat city, and at most you have some stairs that go down or up in certain spots. Well, there's a big hill you can get on top of, and there's a really cool line where you can jump off a ramp from it, then land through a window in the Church at the middle of the map. But it's still very dissapointing when you compare it with Skate 3: massive hills and valleys, huge structures, etc - New Skate is still super early and like 75% of the graphics are missing. But from what i've gathered from what's there (UI, Story characters, Soundtrack), it's really going for a "2020s millenial vibe", like really hipster-ey, the kind of stuff you'd expect from a game set in Seattle lmao. It doesnt have any of that "early 2010s skater-bro" vibe/aesthetic you get from any of the Skate or THPS games. The main indication of this is the really bad soundtrack. (Luckily you can switch between soundtracks. There's a compilation of the best hits from the original Skate trilogy in there and it's quite good)

if they have speed glitches im happy so i can do cool stuff faster

You should try out more indie games and double AA games because they are doing a lot better than triple AAA games.

a new skate game that just came out that I found and think is still pretty unknown is called skatelab, its like physics based skating game. a good way to describe it is a mix between true skate and skaterxl i think its pretty fun

I hate how it is turning into a tony hawk game flying off buildings and shit.. We started playing skate because it wasnt that.. And why tf does skate 3 look more realistic its been over 10 years.. PS EA is wack

everything about the company making this game is gonna potentially go against it. Riders Republic is already a game short of excellency due to being made by a similarly shit company in Ubisoft. On the other hand, EA seems to give enough fucks about this game if the "pre-pre-alpha" trailer is an indication so there's a very cautious kind of optimism to be had for this game. I just hope they look at how hard Activision fumbled THPS5 and avoid those mistakes.

Riders Republic is the skateboard game to play. I just got it. its fun.

Thrasher Skate and Destroy was on PS1 not PS2
