@@smokey5701 it's not bad necessarily I was just stating that if this guy can't see why other people might say it's bad he's close minded and delusional and not looking at the bigger picture. Anyways the game is good if you want it go for it but it is very backtrack heavy and probably the most linear Zelda game but it probably has the best story and character building in Zelda games. Maybe even some of the best dungeons imo
The story was great and the dungeons were pretty good (although still quite weak compared to other games in the series). The controls absolutely sucked and travelling back to the very few areas in the game just felt boring, the lack of a real open place to explore made the whole game feel too linear. I need a Hyrule field to run around in, rather than a small floating island.
If I'm going to be honest, Skyward Sword link may be my least favorite but does not mean I don't like him, I still love him. He was the first hylian to stand up to demise and he shows a lot of anger. I feel like the other links had more emotion in othwr ways if that makes sense. For example, the hero of time is very traumatic and shows in very subtle ways.
@@MmoonMmoose I agree with the subtle for the hero of time. It works great in the game. Tho one could argue graphical limitations of the N64 are the cause of the subtle reactions.
@@JakeYolkBro fr, thankfully a lot of online tutorials existed back then so it just took me a lot of reading. But this was my first zelda game so there were definitely at least 200 hours spent on this game for me.
Skyward Sword is probably my favorite Zelda title behind Majora's Mask. It has SO MUCH charm with a lovely world and surprisingly strong character incarnations, especially with this Link and Zelda specifically. They are so expressive and emotive, it's hard not to feel for them throughout the game.
Played the original and it was a lot of fun. I love Fi's subtle sass and devotion, Link being an adorkable sir, Zelda being lovable, and Groose going from the absolute worst to THE BEST BOY
@@selenopheria She doesn't have any personality. The actual robots have more personality then she does. The random plants in the background have more personality then she does
Late but I literally own all 3 versions of TP (And I suppose both WW as well), and it's the zelda game I replay the most. Like I seriously have a problem... And the problem is Nintendo isn't fueling my addiction because I don't have portable Twilight Princess! I may not like the HD version nearly as much as the OGs, but.. cmon, man, the money you'd guys make has got to be worth the port....
@@wild180 Haha yeah for real, I usually find myself coming back to skyward sword more often than any of the games, but I love playing twilight princess again. I really want to play ocarina of time again, that was my first zelda game, a remake would be so awesome
@@MmoonMmoose I honestly really like the 3DS remakes, so even just having those upscaled and ported to switch would be nice. Not sure I'd buy those again, though-- so an actual real nice remake would indeed be awesome. OoT may be overrated but it's still a great game and could be amazing in an even more updated version (fan projects show a glimpse of what could be haha). I kinda really wanna see a more almost spooky Majora's Mask if it also received a remake which I feel it should if OoT does as the two are paired lol. I'm seriously still surprised they haven't ported TPHD and WWHD over yet though, I highly doubt it'd cost them more than they would gain. Though maybe they're waiting for the next console, which I'm hoping will play switch games still honestly.
@@pugpartyproductions8805 my wii broke sadly so I had to buy it to even play the game but honestly it’s just about how good of quality you wanna play your game, I would say if you have the wii and are able to play that there isn’t really a point to get it unless you really want better quality graphics
@Magoo yeah that makes sense. I got the Wii version to save money. The controls have been working pretty well, but I haven't even gotten my sword yet tbh. I'm hoping that the annoyances aren't even that bad and that people are just not patient enough.
I actually love the motion controls, still in the middle of my first wii playthrough, but the motion controls make it seem more like you’re actually playing, not just tapping buttons, and I personally love Fi, she’s actually pretty helpful. I like the linear bits of it, simply because I do better with one specific correct answer. The storyline was incredibly interesting, and knowing the story of Skyward Sword, seeing other games like Tears of the Kingdom is so much more fun trying to piece together the timeline.
That's awesome! Glad you're enjoying it 👍And yeah many consider SS the prequel to botw and totk. It will be interesting how it all fits on the timeline
I played the wii version and the motion controls are not as bad as people make it out to be. I feel like it's either because i'm used to motion controls, people didn't position their motion sensor perfectly, or they move there body too much when they can just move their hands. It's not perfect, but i got used to it and fighting ghirahim and demise was insanely fun because it felt like i was having an actual sword fight.
Can confirm, it worked great for me and the position of the sword compared to the wii remote is shockingly accurate, I actually found the motion controlls on switch vastly worse than the wii. Most people who complain either didn't set up their wii properly or had faulty controllers. The girahim fight was so God damn fun.
@@PneumaticFrog my wiimote probably sucked ass if what you say is true. I had to recalibrate my Wii Motion Plus several times during bossfights, with the extension disconnecting while I swung my remote. Other than that, I completely agree with OP and you, this was an amazing game, probably my second favourite after Twilight Princess.
For me it wasn’t the motion controls (heck, I have twilight princess on Wii and Wii U and always play on the Wii version so I can swing the remote) but rather that the Wii Motion Plus was soooo annoying and always kept disconnecting and needed to be plugged back in
i loved the game on wii and i loved the sword motion controls but the loftwing controls killed my wrist it was aweful i am now playing on the switch which gives you the option to play with motion provided you detach the joy cons i tried both and am going for the sake of my wrist to play button controls only
@@froggy5584 my biggest issue was trying to get around the first boss dude. Garaham or whatever. He blocked my attack from any angle. So i just had to spin attack constantly and usually one got through. Took a lot of muscle power haha
@@FirestormDDash The first boss is quite hard because you don't quite know how to use the motion controls yet. You have to bait him to attack and then swing oppositely. Even speedrunners have trouble with it because it's genuinely difficult when you have to play with your own arms lol, even when the motion controls are working perfectly.
I played the original. Still my favorite Zelda. Partly for nostalgic reasons, but also because I love the Dungeons, Story, overall map design and Music.
Guys, please play it. They ported it to the switch because it's part of the Triforce trilogy with BOTW and Tears of the Kingdom. Skyward was Power (Ganon's origin), BotW was Wisdom (Zelda's story, Spring of Wisdom plays a huge role), and TotK will be Courage, you can see the green symbolism and theme along with yhe Zonai stuff, which are linked to the Kokiri.
Played the Og, liked a lot. The only black sheep in the series in my opinion would be BOTW, no dungeons, no normal progression. Its an amazing game but it definitively is different, but it does all that while clearly still keeping the spirit of Zelda games
Yeah, shortly after I beat the game, I was very critical, and multiple comments I have left on the internet reflect that, I think now that my initial anger has subsided, I want to give the game a second chance to really see if it is as horrible as I thought it was, or if I just didn't understand the Ocarina of Time formula and that's all.
@@Bored_Overthinker Yeah its worth a shot. Time can change our perspective. Hopefully the Switch version will make it better. If nothing else it will at least be shorter lol
Played both versions but only finished it on the switch. It’s a lot of fun, the only think I remember I didn’t like was that you needed a button to change the camera because the right analogue is used for the sword. And I’m glad that in TOTK we can soar the sky again, definitely one of my favorite parts of SS
I’m gonna be honest, the motion controls are what made it fun for me. I played the original when I was small, but was stuck on the island the whole time cause someone had started it but I didn’t know how to make a new save, so I ended up having 90 hours of wandering. But, about 9 months ago I was able to try the HD version (my sister got it for her birthday, since she’s big into Zelda. I am as well, but I don’t really like video games much). But, since she had it and it was nostalgic, I tried it. And actually, I really, _really_ liked it. I usually hate games since I’m terrible with remembering what does what and combos and such. But with the motion controls, I actually played better than her for once, since I could use my own body and not have to translate. Sure, recalibrating was a tad annoying, but it took like, a second at most and it was fixed. I never did finish it, since she played it in front of my cause she obsessive plays games to completion, but I will one day :>
Wow! That's awesome. Never thought about motion controls being better for those not good with a controller. I have faith one day you will complete it 👍
I played both, its my favourite zelda game due to its story and music, zelda and link have so much emotion in this game, and the music is great, ballad of the goddess, fi's theme JUST AMAZING
I remember someone I know saying the motion controls were awful, but he never even tried the game. I think a lot of people just jumped on the internet echo chamber hate train with Skyward Sword sadly. I’ve played the original and the Switch version, and I don’t recall ever having an issue with the motion controls. It’s definitely in my top 3 Zelda games, maybe even my favourite. The story telling, characters, and dungeons are just incredible.
I didn't have problems with the motion controls either & and I've played the Wii version. My top 3 Zelda games are: 1. Ocarina of Time (mainly for the 3DS version which has (in my opinion) great graphics for a 2011 game), the soundtrack, the dungeons and the characters) 2. Twilight Princess (for the atmosphere, the soundtrack, the character designs) 3. Skyward Sword (the artstyle, the character design and the soundtrack)
Aside from the 4 packs of AAs, the harp thing not working with my ancient controller in eldin and fi not shutting up about my wiimote, it's honestly a great game. I mean it plays with time-travel, has an adorible link and zelda relationship, plus flying and awesome weapons. I'm glad other people started playing it once it was on the switch thought the lite controls fir the sword make my skin crawl. (Just play it with a good remote)
@bezoticallyyours83 it's on the Wii is all I know. Not sure about Remastered, they probably took out Fi's pop up of a long text basically saying 15% battery remaining. Then the same with 10% and then 5% , but I'm pretty sure Wii remote batteries dies out about twice a day. I only remember this because when I was a kid I didn't have an infinite source of Double A batteries so asquabbled around my house a lot trying to squeeze the last life of all the batteries I had, until I got a charge device to magnetically recharge the batteries themselves.
I mean is it though? Like it's only convenient for dungeons really, other than that, there are bird statues everywhere and it'd probably take you longer to get up and get the amiibo than it'd take to go to a bird statue
I know right? Link and Zelda mostly have had just a work relationship thru the series. Maybe one day we'll get to choose in a Zelda game who we can be in a relationship with
I played the original; it's my favorite of the current traditional Zelda games. Using a 3rd party sensor bar, using a motion plus controller with a motion plus attachment. Works *very* nicely.
I understand the problems with SS... but it's still my favorite Zelda game. And it's because of the motion controls that I love it so much, yes the suck at times, but it is amazing when it worked. I haven't played the remake, and I know other Zelda games are better, but it's still my favorite.
Yeah people criticize it when it has some great mechanics namely the time shift stone, best soundtrack, beautiful art style, good characters and a great final battle and ending wouldn't say it's my favorite tho Majora's mask and botw go above it
I'd rank the 3d zeldas 1. Botw 2. Majora's mask 3. skyward sword 4. Ocarina of time 5. Windwaker 6. Twilight princess Never finished windwaker and barely played much of twilight
@@Maxippo I've also never finished wind waker. Twilight princess almost had the best story but they fumbled it at the end. At least they made the best companion, Midna. My 3D Zelda ranking 1. Skyward sword 2. Majora's mask 3. BOTW 4. Twilight Princess 5. Ocarina of time 6. Wind waker Objective rating 1. BOTW 2. Majora's mask 3. Ocarina of time 4. Wind waker 5. Skyward sword/Twilight Princess
I just finished hero mode for the first time on the Wii and it’s still my favorite Zelda game to this day. By far my favorite main story of any Zelda game I’ve played with a beautiful art style that never gets old to look at.
Skyward sword is an amazing game in the legend of Zelda, it's basically the starting point, where everything begins, from a lore perspective it's absolutely necessary. But also from fun and being just a great game it hits the mark as well, imo.
@@gamenerdlegacy Yeah looks like the switch and Wii hours are switched up since the switch version is faster. I enjoy the content binged a bunch of your shorts earlier 😀
@@EdenPrisonMC Well thanks so much for the binge 🥰 I really appreciate it. I'll have make sure I triple check my numbers next time, thanks for letting me know
I played both versions some people hated it and some people liked it I liked skyward sword I thought it was pretty good the most special thing about skyward sword is that it shows Link and Zelda are very close in this game.
Well, I only played the HD version, with button controls. But still, this game definitely has a lot of improvements I immediately missed when I revisited ocarina of time, twilight princess, and wind waker right after finishing skyward sword. I hardly had any problems with this game even though I'm bad at video games.
Another big factor is that most people that played Skyward Sword also played SSHD (although not necessarily vice versa) so a portion of the players have already played through and figured out the hardest puzzles and such.
Literally just started playing HD recently. Been absolutely loving it. I remembered loving the original and am remembering why going through HD. Love the OG Zelda algorithm
I love the original SS, it's within my top 3 Zelda games. It has everything that makes Zelda great and the motion controls are awesome. If you dont like them, just raise your fat bum of the couch and swing the controller with no regard to safety. If you're standing and actually swinging, the controls worked perfectly for me. But I understand the frustration for left handed people, that should've been considered after Twilight Princess.
Skyward sword is my favorite game of the Zelda series honestly. I grew up playing the wii and due to how much dialog there was it is one of the main ways I actually learned to read. I played and beat it when I was 4. Now with the HD remake I can still play my favorite game from my childhood
i played both right when they released and i have to say as a left handed person this game certainly gave me a challenge but maybe because of it i can now use both hands for just about anything which is neat. i loved the game i dont understand the hate on the motion control considering a majority of people were able to use their dominant hand at least. skill issue?
Played both. Prefer the control scheme of the remaster. It isn't the best of course and it's pretty linear but it's not the shit show a lot of people make it out to be
Botw made me appreciate skyward more than I ever thought possible. I was dissatisfied with it at first. But now, I’ve totally changed my tune. As a big Zelda theorist and old school fan, yeah skyward will always have it’s painful downsides but it officially has a warm place in my heart.
Great addition in the series. If you’re a Zelda fan you should absolutely play it, played the original on the Wii as a kid and the remastered on the switch as an adult, which was awesome. Very touching story and enjoyable characters
Genuinely the intro and Fi not speaking nearly as much saves TONS of time. When I saw your other short comparing the times of all LoZ games and you pointed out the time difference I knew it was because of that freaking sword. I lost countless hours listening to that sword every 2 seconds. That was by far the best improvement in the new one, and the button controls versus having to use motion. The new one has only improvements. Also yeah, it’s by far the worst of the 3D LoZ games. If they ever bring Twilight Princess and Windwaker to Switch then you youngins will get to experience the TRUE GEMS of the 3D games.
@@Labyrinth1010 of course I do. But those are the most obvious well known games in the series. By gems I mean underrated. They’re incredible game that get overshadowed by BotW, MM and OoT
@@SwedePotato314 it’s interesting you think they’re underrated. Zelda fans absolutely adore both games, especially the HD versions and they were both critically acclaimed. I mean, isn’t that the opposite of underrated?
@@Labyrinth1010 in terms of Zelda games, underrated yes. Like I said and you yourself also said, aren’t Majoras Mask and Ocarina of Time the darlings of the series? Yes. I understand Zelda fans love them, that’s why I called them gems because I’m a Zelda fan. I’m 36 and I’veplayed every single 3D game since their release day. Ive been playing since I was 12. So yeah they’re underrated in terms of Zelda games, I never said no one loves them. When I said they were gems you questioned why I didn’t say OoT or MM. then why I said yeah because they’re underrated compared to them you said it’s funny I think they’re underrated. There’s no pleasing you, is there? You’re being intentionally obtuse and I hope you have a lovely day.
Skyward sword is one of the best Zelda games top 3 or 5 and people hate on it because they didn’t feel like moving their arms. The story is great and added so much interesting things alongside fun and dungeons with mythological things in it.
I’ve played almost all of the main title LOZ games and out of all of them, Skyward Sword is my favourite lol I LOVE the characters, I love Skyloft and the loft wings, I LOVE the motion controls even if I got mad at them sometimes and almost threw my elbow out of socket trying to panic thrust lmao I also love Link and Zelda’s relationship and the fact that the game looks like a watercolor painting ~ I also love all the side quests and character depth ~ To me this game was the most lighthearted, the most beautiful, the most expressive and the most heartwarming LOZ game out there. And it’s definately my favourite incarnation of Link and Zelda 💜
Best Zelda game. Played all of the 3d ones + links awakening remake. Arguably the most satisfying, complete, cozy and fulfilling escape in a video game. Almost cried when it was over.
I'm currently playing skyward sword hd and I don't get why people say it's bad. Yes, the motion control is bad sometimes but the rest of the game is really good and fun to play
Unfortunately the motion controls really ruined the game for a lot of folks. That's why Im glad there's a remaster on Switch to give players another way to play it and hopefully enjoy all the other great aspects of the game
I played the original with a walkthrough on RU-vid cuz I was a really stupid kid and 100% the HD version on my own as an adult. It’s so nostalgic, I love it. Never had issues with the controls even on the wii
Skyward Sword is my favorite Zelda game. I have played them all but I just remember getting my black Wii for Christmas and going at that game for the first time and it was magic.
I played both but the original will always be held dear to my heart because I had fun swinging the remote around. Like a full on child with a stick and because I was litterally at the final boss demise before I dropped game
Skyward Sword is my favorite Zelda game for a number of reasons: the story, the music, the world, the nostalgia. And well... let's just say that teenage me was very smitten with a certain demon lord and I was very excited to see Ghirahim in all his HD glory. ♦
Idk about other people but skyward sword has been my favorite Zelda game since I was young. I think I love it more since it’s the story on how the legend of Zelda starts. That always appeals to me in things like this. I love games that have good stories to them
Played original as a kid. Played HD as an adult. Haven’t completed HD, but found it to be more pleasing (being in HD and all the QoL improvements) Both still hold a special place in my heart. Especially since joy-cons don’t capture the Wii Motion+ controls the way the original does. Still a beautiful game.
What I've noticed is that a player's attitude towards the game is strongly correlated with how well the motion controls worked for them. In my case, I had a brand new MotionPlus controller and it was a BLAST. I was free to appreciate the lush visuals and really tight design. Some of my younger siblings, though, tried to play it later, after the MotionPlus had been through some abuse, and they REALLY struggled to get into it. They've got HD on the Switch, now, and love it because they don't have to wrestle with the controls.
Yeah that's a good point. I think a bad or faulty Wii remote definitely can impact someone's experience. Glad your siblings got the Switch version and can enjoy it fully.
I’ve played through both and I love it dearly. Truly a classic Zelda game imo through and through. It stands up alongside all the 3D games just fine for me.
The original's longer gameplay and the controls do make it completely unique. Although it's different than the other games, getting used to the controls makes the game so satisfying... Even with it's annoying little quirks
@gamenerdlegacy After that, I played Twilight Princess, but I don't think I've ever finished that one. Those were the only two I played for a while because my family only had a wii lol
My favorite Zelda before BOTW arrived. I really found the game amazing especially with the wii remotes that were mimicking the shield and the sword + the story and the characters were all lovely, nobody will change my mind XD
