Why Smite is better than League of Legends

In this video, I talk about why Smite is better than League of Legends.
This video is my opinion, and as such, is not factual. Please take your own time to come to your own conclusions on which is better between these 2 popular games.
Edit I did end up cutting a part out of the vid. It was originally a portion where I talk about the Menus of both games. While what I said I still believe to be true, I decided that it was oddly placed in the video, and that it was more of a nitpick than what I wanted. If you want more about it, I have responded to a number of comments talking about it, so you can see what I had to say in response to those comments. My main complaint was that it was un-immersive, and it didn't have music. Many people have said there is music, particularly, for events, champ releases, etc. However, despite filming when Briar was released, I didn't get any while filming the video. I have deduced that this is because I was sub lvl 30. On one hand, cool, that's better than not having music. On the other hand, it only breeds more issues, because for new players, they have now lvl locked features that would entice you to play the game for the first time or to continue playing. Nonetheless, my point is technically wrong, despite it not really changing my opinion on the topic.

Smite is a great game, but the ranked system is crippled by the low player base. U can be bronze playing against plat simply because there’s no one playing. Smite would do great if there were people playing it
@DaCodesta
@DaCodesta 7 месяцев назад
While I've never personally experienced this myself, I can totally see this. League has a huge competitive scene so it's ranked scene is more popular and fleshed out. And this may actually be where all the additional game modes come into play as a downside. I personally really enjoy clash and assault which are casual, so I never end up playing ranked very often. Assuming I'm not the only one, less people feel inclined to play ranked which is probably a part of the problem. Good point though!

League does in fact have music on it's login screens, depending on what event/new champ will be on the front page it will play their theme song. The ''journey'' screen that doesn't have any music only shows up for people brand new to the game because it shows beginner missions etc.

Completely agree. I think part of it, is definitely the competitiveness of League. The competitive scene itself probably draws in plenty of players on its own. Plus, League was the first big MOBA, so it's naturally the OG.

I will open this by saying I played Smite a handful of times many years ago. Like I remember when Scylla was released. I was not good at the game or really even aware of how it worked on an in-depth level (was simply too young). From what I have seen in videos of Smite and gameplay commentary, I think I enjoy League more for a couple of reasons. The top-down camera perspective allows me to play the game more like a commander, and it fits the strategic elements of the game well. League is about micro (lane/jungle) and macro (map/team) level play, and rewards you for thinking about what you’re going to do. This may also be true for Smite, but it’s certainly true for League. I do enjoy 3rd person games, but I usually just play MMOs for that. League was a weird adjustment, but after getting used to it, I’ve grown to enjoy it. As for game modes, I do think Summoner’s Rift is simply a timeless classic. Because it’s the core game mode alongside ARAM, players have spent years learning every bit of detail about the map and how champions interact with it. From a gameplay perspective, I imagine I would like laning in Smite more than I would in League. I’m a jungle player because I like the freedom and control of the gamestate you have, but the different camera perspective may make lane play more exciting for me. The thing that really drew me into League in the first place are the characters and lore and in-game universe. I’m a big fantasy enjoyer, so all these crazy and diverse champions make the game so much fun to play. Smite has very cool characters as well, and some of the character designs are really awesome, I don’t want to discredit them. Smite is also (for the most part) set out of real mythology, whereas League is completely custom. Obviously there’s still tropes and repeated ideas, but most of the roster is iconic and entertaining. Some of League’s champs are a little forgettable in my opinion, though. Overall I can’t compare the two games, as I don’t play Smite. I always thought Smite looked a little… clunkier, almost? With models and graphics and whatnot. League’s older champions definitely fit that bill as well but the visuals for newer characters are amazing, not to mention all the music and incredible cinematics. Also they go all out for Worlds, League’s championship tournament, which I love. I’m not even crazy about e-sports, but it’s very cool.

I can agree that initially the 3rd person aspect of Smites combat gives you a much more "feel like im in the fight" gameplay, but overtime with league it pretty much feels like that too, especially with the newer champion kits. Fully agree with practice tool needing to add all champs and let us trial skins
@ehrtdaz7186
@ehrtdaz7186 5 месяцев назад
It's clunky tho. The game controls like a RTS, but the actual gameplay doesn't fit that, there is too much action for that kind of control scheme. LoL would play a lot better if it was completely redesigned for WSAD control movement, it doesn't even have to be TPP. I believe Battlerite did that, so it definetly can be done in a top-down MOBA too.

Since nobody has mentioned this yet, League DID used to have two other game modes. Those being Twisted Treeline and Dominion. Twisted Treeline is a 3v3 map containing a smaller map with two lanes and a jungle in the middle. Dominion is similar to Arena in Smite but it is mostly a capture and control game mode. These two were unfortunately retired as official game modes in league sadly.

Great video! Good job! Until I pressed the sub button I thought you have like a 100k+ subs or something... you deserve it. Even tho I'm not completely agree with your arguments this was quality work. I've read some of the comments and a lot of people are disagree with you - that's amazing! You shouldn't take that as a bad sign or something. It's very good that you have your own oppinion. If you allow me I'll add some differences between both games. The community in league is very toxic and unfriendly, the smite community from the other side is the complete opposite. For me Smite was way much better than league in the beginning, now is the other way around. I think that the balance team in Smite did a poor job and kind of take out the fun of the game (I don't know how long have you played Smite - I perosnally play since open beta and have reached level of 160 and 80+ gods on rank10 several years ago so I have played a little bit), and the league balance team is doing their job way much better (not perfect for sure, but at least they try to make the game enjoyable). Maybe if you put some more hours in league you could appreciate it. Btw I don't know if you're familiar with that but the main reason why Smite is dead game (sadly for me) is because they don't have China market. Since there is religion reason the China version of the game is few patches behind and every god have some other name and story so it wont affect the real worshipers or something like that. Just because of this Smite was doomed. :(

Hey man, appreciate all the love! I truly appreciate it. I'm doin my best out here. I was pretty surprised with how many views this first vid has gotten. It was mainly spur of the moment since I know a ton about smite, but I'm not sure if I'll stick to this niche too much. Not taking any disagreements too negatively. I get it, as personally I enjoy smite more. Everyone can have their own opinion after all. And yeah, the League community is VERY toxic a lot of the time. Smite a bit less so, but it's certainly no saint. I've definitely seen some pretty 'angry' people on both games. But overall I think yeah smite is a bit more friendly, especially to newbies. As far as balance goes, I could see league doing a better job. It's hard for me to see this though because I play smite a lot more with friends than i do solo. We all vary in skill pretty heavy, so it's usually hard for me to tell if my friends are the reason or the game itself. Awesome for you that you've found league being more balanced though! I've never really thought about it but what you said about the Chinese market makes so much sense. Since it is mythology based, it was never destined to work out there, and China makes up a big market in the gaming industry. Truly a shame that it worked out that way.

To be honest I’ve played both a lot casually 100+ hours with that being said smite takes it for me. Smite is just more accessible and enjoyable for me i grew up a console player so there’s a lot of comfort when playing smite as comparison to LoL. Smite being third person allows for me to have an insane feel for the game when your mobility isn’t limited by a click, I saw a comment speaking on the excitement of LoL but they should know about how it feel to maneuvers so freely in the game allowing the ceiling for player position and fights to be higher and the fights more intense to add to this I think smite fights are way harder than league although league to me is about preemptively outplaying your opponent in a fight in smite a lot of the clashes are fast paced high pressure and best of all for me no clicking to move or hit someone oh yeah you have to AIM and hit shots so that’s another layer even if it’s a small one now characters items and their kits in both games balance wise to me are the same they’re mobas expect it thankfully I don’t have to talk cosmetics as presented in the video smite wipes the stain of brownie mud that is LoL. Now I understand if someone says to me well who plays smite and I’ll tell them it’s more niche than it’s big brothers dota and LoL due to it as a product not being sold to the public very well. What I’ll give LoL that smite doesn’t have is its little details omfg that sound when you kill a little minion tickling you is a amazing. LoL has a bigger community so its easier to get into since there’s a lot of guide channels and patch updates, smite doesn’t really have this type of community present and only few RU-vidrs really provide this insight also they’re not as entertaining (not gameplay just personality I have seen very few) I recommend these smite RU-vidrs mast & inters3ct. Mast is enjoyable to watch and honestly will fill the void of farming in a moba with cool conversations and inters3ct is THAT GUY for smite info, guides, and gameplay, I really wish we had a tyler1 or yk like jynxi with siege to bring more interest. I said earlier that as a product smite wasn’t sold very well, well the fact that we don’t have personality does not help people aren’t gonna play game unless it’s marketed well or personalities reel them in. Ty so much for your time.

Btw, you have a chance to get random skins via skin shards for free just by playing the game - same with champion/champion shards. You can also get 960-1200 blue essence for disenchanting champion shards for the first time to second time(decreasing with value with every disenchant). If you decide that you want the champion you can also just enchant the skin shard for blue essence for half the price, and you can usually do this every level up. Good video, tho I will wait until smite does its visual overhaul.

You don't earn those skin shards by just playing the game, you need to play it well enough or play with someone who can play well enough to earn the chests. League of Legends also has a plethora of cosmetics, even in the profile picture department and borders, it's just that most of them are exclusive to events that have usually past. They did start adding more banners for lobbies now a days in their events to test the feature out and some skins have borders if you buy a package with them. Also, you can get free champion, emotes and wards skins by playing the game well and getting chests. And receiving honours for doing so which gives key fragments to build into a key to open said chest. Not to mention that events give you rewards just by playing the game, receiving something called an orb that guarantees a champion skin (which more people want), although, the skins are both random from chests and orbs, that compels someone to play the champion if they have a skin on them and try it out some more, in the process you are basically learning the champion and getting better at the game in my opinion. I didn't play some champions because I didn't think I will like them, but I tried them out after having skins on them or simply by playing ARAM and it changed my perspective on how a lot of champions play and feel. Not to mention that the League of Legends community is really big, I watch videos from different RU-vidrs that play a variety of champions and have different playstyles just to learn more about the game, most people wouldn't really watch pro players playing seriously but there are plenty of pro-players that make montages and/or funny videos with their games, even if playing seriously, they still make you enjoy the complexity of the game by simply dumbing it down and making an enjoyable video, although, you don't learn that much from it, it's still enjoyable. I played Smite for a while as well, for roughly 200 hours, I enjoyed it and I liked the champions quite a bit, it's easier to get champions in Smite mostly because of the daily missions being more rewarding rather than league's "win of the day, get 50 blue essence and 400 XP" which just speeds up the levelling to get champion capsules to get a random champion shard which you would usually keep if you don't have the champion since it's cheaper or just burn it altogether to get Blue essence from it in return if you have the champion, you can also keep it if it's a champion you want to get mastery on to simply fuse with a mastery token to receive a mastery level up on said champion. The gameplay was just fine in my experience, although I hated the fact that I couldn't see behind me and I had to do so by looking at a mini-map, but when I saw that god were coming towards me from behind on the mini-map, I just couldn't do much about the opponent behind and in front of me, making it difficult to play since on league you have a 360 degree angle at all times and can use abilities even behind you without a problem. The one game mode I enjoyed the most though, was Joust, which reminds me of Twisted Treelines on LoL, it also used to be a 3v3 game mode which I used to play with my friends, but it had 2 lanes just like Assault, it was pretty nostalgic because of the 3v3 aspect. Some people don't have a whole group to play with, usually 2-3 people are the norm now a days for most close group of friends and I had lots of fun being a full team most of the time when playing Twisted Treelines. The only reason I don't play Smite is because of the simplicity, yes, it's a fun 3rd view perspective on a MOBA but that really makes it either too easy to play or too hard depending on different scenarios, I prefer to be fully in control of my movements just like in league, also, most people in Smite don't really know some MOBA mechanics, like wave control and other aspects like that, I usually took advantage of it to the best of my extend with the tools available, although, it's really hard to do so BECAUSE of 3rd person view, which makes the strategy aspect of it even simpler, since you don't usually build up much of waves to fight or even freezes to keep your enemies from getting farm and making them stuck on the lane. MOBAs need a complexity to them for people to have skills to master and strategies to build, stripping that away by changing the camera should come with another skill to master, skill shots are easier because you simply aim them in front of you and have a big area of effect on them, which makes it easier than League's, maybe the changes needed aren't in regards to champions but rather the average MOBA experience itself, making it more like DOTA may make it more complex and people might be drawn to it more, or maybe adding a difference to how jungle and having more objectives on the map would make it even more enjoyable to play competitively. I haven't played Smite in a while but maybe they did add those things recently without my knowledge since I don't really stay up to date with it. overall, I think that Smite still has things to improve before even competing with League of Legends in regards to gameplay, yes, it has a 3rd person view and some extra cosmetics but that's mostly it from what I even see on this video, just some extra cosmetics such as the announcers, jumping circle, titles and level up animation.

@stylesheetra9411
@stylesheetra9411 6 месяцев назад
Smite is waaay more strategic than lol The problem with lol is that they went with the esport route and the game is just a easy and simple path to victory. Also for freezing the lane etc, this is mostly a league things, as both Dota and Smite arent all about lanes but are more map based. You can freeze the lane in smite, but why you should? Your are giving to your opponent the entire of your jungle for free while giving him better rotations Smite (and also dota) isnt lane focused as League, the map is bigger than summoner rift and it's full exp and gold to take, you arent supposed to stay in lane like you do in league Freezing can work in lower ranks (I think) as no one know how to play, but the higher you go the more you need to learn to play the map. But I wont say smite is better, there are simply different games, league is more linear and flowcharty, but it give you clear goals to master and if you mastered them you truly see yourself improving and feel good about it Smite and Dota are more chaotic, but this means the general concepts you can master arent as clear as league
@gabrielvasile1360
@gabrielvasile1360 6 месяцев назад
@@stylesheetra9411 I would say that even League has a lot of things to do with map awareness and playing with your team, especially the thing you mentioned which is e-sports, they always try and do things on the map. wave management generally has more to do with the early game rather than late game, although, even in late game, you still use the wave in your advantage, building up a slow push or other stuff, I think league is more strategic in this way, specifically in late game, and the new changes added, objectives in LoL will be more important than ever
@stylesheetra9411
@stylesheetra9411 6 месяцев назад
@@gabrielvasile1360 yeah obv that map awareness is important in league, but it's not comparable to smite, in smite it's the laner job to get most camp, and you dont want to get your camps only, but also your opponent ones You also want to harass other enemy laners so your teammates can easily get their camps League doesnt have any of this, as they went for the opposite directions were now every lane is a island, you never interact with the jungle if you arent the jungler and most games are just a linear path to the dragons as they are the most important thing in the game Smite doest have this "flowchartingness", they are a lot of objective in the game that are somewhat balanced in their benefit and time to kill, there is nothing with bonus as strong as a lol dragon so you really never know what objective you can sacrifice to the enemy and what objective is a must
@gabrielvasile1360
@gabrielvasile1360 6 месяцев назад
@@stylesheetra9411 I disagree, in high elo most laners actually do help their jungles, interact with them on the regular and actually do help with camps, when invading enemy jungles, you don't usually do it alone except if you know you have prio, which prio is created by your teammates. Not to mention the fact that you ward and get vision in enemy territory, this is usually done by supports and junglers mostly, but any lane has wards, they are free, just placing them correctly can lead to an advantage. And as a laner you do take camps, in fact, in the mid-game you can freely take your jungle camps or the enemies' and get back in the game with items and exp. Not to mention that the dragon is also an objective that is secured by your botlane, where they get lane prio and help you out in order to take it faster, a lot of team fights happen at Drake and sometimes. If possible, I get the drake with a teammate when possible and let the jungle take enemy camps or let the other teammates take advantage of the enemies' mispositioning or even death. Also, there are a few objectives that you can get that are not just the drake, the Herald and Nashor is the other objective on top, which actually helps with pushing and taking towers, so you can simply put pressure on enemy team if you have the Herald since he crashes into towers and deals a lot of damage, not to mention that the Nashor buff can put pressure on lane. I haven't seen that in Smite and that is a normal strategy for LoL. Also, the dragon might give you a boost and extra strengths but you can win games even if you don't have the soul, I have won games where I didn't have the dragon soul and the enemy did. How? I simply took advantage of them doing drake, misplay or simply split push, then, if no enemy comes to intersect me, I can simply keep pushing into their inhibitor or even take their last towers and/or Nexus. This also puts my team at an advantage, if I am really strong, they need more than just 1 person, which makes the drake fight a 4v3 in our advantage instead of the typical 4v4. These kind of decisions making and more happen all the time in League. Sure, the early lane might be weird with all the wave management and all sorts of weird things that you don't see in Smite, but guess what? Doing them actually makes you have an advantage in later stages of the game, where I can be more powerful by 1.5-2 items than the enemy team. I can fuck up my decision making and get shut down, which is in fact, is a part of being very strategic and know how to play on weak side by the enemy team, it can be harder, but that doesn't mean they lost.

I believe the reason SMITE can go all out on skins is thanks to their brilliant God Pass System. Even when you're a relatively new player, you own all the gods and thus have access to their skins. In League, earning a champion can be quite a grind, especially for the newer ones. That said, I do think that League's skins feel higher of quality, both artistically and in terms of maintaining the readability of a character's model. SMITE, on the other hand, gives me a bit of a mobile game vibe, perhaps due to their heavy marketing of cosmetics and the sheer multitude of things you can buy- it's a bit overwhelming, really.

I've played both. Biggest disappointments in Smite is how all champs are balanced for Conquest and not other games modes. In League, champs are made stronger or weaker in ARAM to compensate. Matchmaking is awful in Smite due to player base. Also, as an ADC main, its hard to hit autos against players with good movement, and auto attacks are same range as all spells in the game. So you have to work so hard to deal decent damage while a mage pops you in 2 moves at the same range. Still fun though.

The point of the rotating modes maybe strong enough to sustain itself if not linked to a personal opinion. The part about champion trial and skins is so true tho, league does nothing to show you how to play either. (I know about the tutorial but it is so bad).

Smite is a fantastic game that needs polish, even all these years later - they just never got the game feeling like it should. You also seem to have played Smite for too long to remember how disorienting movement spells are (especially blink) when one is new to the game. I personally believe the vision is better in Smite as you get punished harder for not using vision tools (wards and minimap), similarly to how I feel that Dota has better vision mechanics than League bc not using them is punishing. Other people are right: both games have poopy kaka client and this point is moot Smite IS more fun and your instincts are on point, but you just haven't played League in any meaningful capacity; whilst I appreciate you trying to not get into detail about game mechanics as such, I think you'd make a much better video if you had more material for comparison. Smite's skins put the majority of games out there to shame with how frequent and high-quality they are.

totally agree with most of what you said! There are some moments when you can tell the game can definitely be improved upon. Blink, and other movement based skills such as serqets dash are understandably tough for those who are new at the game. Though, that's probably not just a smite thing, as flash and other movement abilities felt weird when I used them. Definitely right though that it needs some improvement Agree with vision. Due to the locked camera perspective, you need to be ultra aware if your immediate surroundings, otherwise you'll be caught lackin. Plus, you're forced to make split second map decisions without being able to pan the camera around, which means you have to use some deductive reasoning. True both clients/main menus are kind of egh, but League should atleast 'try' to entice me to play the game when I'm using it. No arguments against you saying that I could compare better if I played more League. Aside from back in 2015 when reached lvl 30, I hadn't played much past like lvl 12 on this new account. I felt a bit rushed making the vid, and all the smurfs in League was not making me want to push through to lvl 30. Plus smite is more fun for me anyways, so I was really forcing myself to play, which didn't feel fair to League. So i ended up limiting my play time on League as to not burn out, and negatively review League more than it deserves. Smite skins are too good, and they're pretty consistent so completely agree there man. Nothing like playing just outright obsurd skins like Mars attacks ah puch.

I've played Smite quite a lot, I love it, it's addicting and it's challenging when you first start and it never stops being difficult because you always fuck up and learn things even if you are pro. But I personally feel that Smite and League cannot be compared just because of the fact that they have different camera views. It TOTALLY changes the gameplay, completely. It's day and night. Yes they are both mobas, yes they both have (kinda) similar maps, champs, skill sets and items etc etc, but just the fact that Smite is third person changes EVERYTHING. League of Legends is beautiful in his own way, the champs are so aesthetic, the synergy between them, the animations, the originality of the skill sets of the champs, the lore, everything is so polished, you can tell is runned by a professional company. But the gameplay is just not for everyone. League couldn't have a third person camera view, because League is actually fine as it is, that camera view just works, worked and will always work. The way you can be aware of the whole map, the way of casting skills in LoL is different, it's actually hard, but in a different strange way compared to Smite, aiming changes just because of the third person view. In League you also have to be super aware of your cursor which I personally find annoying and disengaging from the game. Thing that doesn't happen in Smite, is just simpler, AWSD like most games, and that also changes how you dodge skills. It's a different gameplay and requires different mechanics. With Smite you can actually train like an FPS player, because is (kinda) similar to a shooter. I got better at Smite by playing AimLab lol. Although I assume you would also benefit from AimLab if you're a LoL player but I don't know to what degree, because aiming is not the only important part in LoL, clicking and moving the fucking camera takes so much time, practice and effort that you either like that or you hate it. I feel like it's comparing apples and oranges, because even tho is the same genre, the gameplay just hits different, it's hard to explain. You can just choose a game solely on the camera view, everything else is just secondary because that's the primary thing that matters when you choose between this games. You either like LoL camera or you don't, I feel like there's no in between. Most people I know in Smite hate LoL camera, but I never encountered someone that hated Smite's third person point of view. Maybe they were bad at the game so they "hated" it, because it's true, it's hard cause you have to actually aim your basic attacks, also the spatial awareness you need is kinda differrent when trying to successfully aim your skills, but disliking Smite's third person point of view is hard/rare. Smite is just so cool visually and immersive that I would be surprised if someone didn't genuinely like how it looks or how the gameplay is. There's no better word, Smite is just cool. And with Smite 2 this got even better. If Smite had more players it would be perfect. It has almost everything, good gods, good skins, good abilities, good maps, good visuals, free good skins, chests and free gems, (as you said) you can try out skins before buying, good and forever challenging gameplay, constant updates, what more do you want? BUT I feel they can't be compared. Now if you want to compare Smite vs Paragon (now Predecessor) that would make more sense to me. Or the Classic comparison between Dota and League would also make more sense.

One thing that is something to be added is that League has one of the best twitch prime drops out of all of them and also there's the hextech crafting system in place which allows you to earn Key Fragments for Keys and earning S's on champions gives you Hextech Chests so it is entirely possible to find fully free to play players with all the champions and many many skins. Another thing that's a bit strange is the Smite skins changing the entire game design on some of the skins which can make it a bit hard for newer players to differentiate between certain gods and goddesses Take my like and comment for the algorithm, great video!

From someone who has played both games since late 2011 I personally favor Smite more. The gameplay, the third person aspect, Mythology, are all my favorites. As far as cosmetics and other purchasable options League has done a way much better job in my opinion. Smite feels more cash grabby now whereas League's prices have for the most part stayed the same (390, 520, 750, 975, 1350, 1820, etc.) with weekly discounts, hextech crafting, prime capsules, and personalized stores. To go into detail, when Smite came out, for about 4 years skins were direct purchase at 400 or 600 gems depending on the quality of the skin. Then they added the dreaded gatcha system of chests where you can spend the said 400 gems (sometimes 200) at a small percentage chance of getting a skin you want (unless you owned some of the skins already from that chest). If you want the skin directly, the price is about 1200 gems. Granted league has a higher player count so that's why their skin prices have stayed the same (not including the price of RP) where Smite's player count has been a steady dedicated thousands of players.

So Smite is more casual friendly, more immersive in its gameplay, has a better menu, and better access to cosmetics, some of which are hilarious… I agree. But does that make it the better game? While the controls for League are hard to get used to, Smite has always felt pretty clunky to me. Some abilities feel like they do nothing, while League characters have cohesive kits with clear goals. Some of the graphics and animations can be quite dated. Not to mention how there’s not nearly as many people playing Smite so queues can be kinda rough and half the people I face feel like bots. The game doesn’t have the same effort put into its balance, its design, its anything really, other than cool skin crossovers so they can make more money? Im giving Smite a lot of shit but I do think it’s really fun and I think this is a great showcase of what Smite has to offer, but not really a compelling argument for how League is worse.

while I do enjoy and play both games pretty evenly now, there is one huge massive insanely crazy better thing I will always say smite does infinitely better than league, and that's the jungle. In league there's like two camps that actually drop buffs and both of them always just go to the jungler by default, in smite every single camp outside of two middle ones have buffs or map effects that make it way more engaging and proactive. It also has the benefit of making other roles actually engage with the jungle occasionally like the duo lane needing to contest a neutral spawning buff or solo lane fighting over their neutral buffs. Going from smites jungle to leagues jungle was an insane shock with how much more baren leagues is. I never felt like I had any reason to go for jungle camps outside of just not falling behind, while with smite every single time I play jungle I constantly am dropping buffs for teammates, contesting neutral camps, hell there's even an item that places wards on camps you defeat so even with basic xp camps you still leave a tangible map presence for getting them. I will always take every opportunity I have to spread the message about how much more engaging and fun the jungle role is in smite compared to league, it's one of the biggest gaps between the two for me.

As a player who've been playing league for almost 7 years, I find smite more enjoyable cause its playstyle is way better, in league if you're ahead in kills/gold etc means insta win, but in smite you can legit just farm, play around objectives push lanes and you can comeback from a bad start or a losing game, so this war vs smite and league is lowkey pointless cause smite is better.

I played Smite for 5 years nonstope before playing League and my take is Smite is a great game only if you play with a 5 stack, going solo on that game is a horrible experience. If you are outside the US (I'm from LAS) you have to wait so much to get into a game that I often just change my server to Brasil so I can actually play but then I have to play on constant higher ping. If one thing Smite does right is their modes, Joust is so fun and I loved Arena so much. And their Gods design is so fun like champions on League tend to become redundant or fucking overloaded while on Smite I feel like the devs do a good job of keeping things fun and not just reduing some abilities onto a new God. And their skins always slaps. Like almost everyone we feel like the game is amazing but playing the game outside US is so annoying since the playerbase is almost nonexistent.

I think that the bias for Smite showed a bit too hard here. Although I agree on many points about lackluster client, limiting ways to learn champions / see skins without outside help form youtube, and the lack of gamemodes. I think you overlooked some key points that should make league sound better to the newer player. Also I would like to mention that it feels unfair for you to truly compare when you don't have nearly as much time in League as Smite, just like I would like to warn that I am the complete opposite with a limited number of hours on Smite. Every time you level up your account you get champion capsules that give you shards of a random character, you can use them to unlock champions with the in-game currency, but with a often substantial discount. And if you never wanted that champion, you could exchange the shard for pure blue essence to help buy champions. As a league player mainly whom only played smite a hand full of times (and enjoyed it). I think that Smite feels too cluttered for both it's client and in game. I feel a bit overwhelmed with all the pop-ups, different keybinds on the hud for things that I have yet to use or understand, and overall discourages me from logging in. But that could just be because of unfamiliarity and lack of understanding since i've played league for about 3 years pretty consistently now. I agree that it is annoying to not have a real preview of a skin inside the game itself, but riot has been very welcoming to SkinSpotlights as a sort of 'official' response to only having the splash art in the client. As for the quality of the skins, I think some of leagues skins are amazing and truly something to witness, some are just trash due to how outdated they are since league has been going on for over a decayed. But what you cannot say about their skins compared to Smite is readability. I personally have a harder time telling who is who with skins, but that problem is in league too but to a lesser extent in my opinion. Once again that could be familiarity talking I would need to get info from a new player of both games None the less I think that after watching this video I may give smite a bit more of a chance since I do love mythology and I did really like Melrin's gameplay
@DaCodesta
@DaCodesta 6 месяцев назад
(Apologize for the length, wanted to try and hit verything since your comment was constructive) My bias was definitely a main contributing factor to making the video lol, which is why I tried to jokingly highlight it at the beginning. I totally agree though, it's absolutely not a 100% fair comparison if i don't have equal play time in both. A big contributing factor for that though is because I really never could get into league which is why I gravitated towards smite in the first place. Even when I played it for like a year in 2015-2016 is was tough for me to get into it so I dropped it. The thing with shards, discounts and trading characters for blue essence is actually a super cool Mechanic. I guess I just never really figured it out this time around, or just didn't realize it was an option. Smite doesn't have the same thing really, but it does have a level up system where you get some rewards for leveling up, which can be God's, boosters, or even some various cosmetics. One neat thing is you can rent God's too, which is never really something I did because I went for the God pass route, but it sounds like the system with shards and all that in league is pretty innovative. Just wish I could test champs before trading for them lol Definitely understand the issue with the clutter, and I think the arguement could probably be made for both games, but definitely more for smite. It's just like you said though, after you get that experience you really get used to it. Skin highlights are cool, smite does them too sometimes but I know league is crazy with the production value of videos. I mean, those cinematics are something else man League skins themselves can be pretty good, and their champs are honestly really awesome. I love that they're all unique with personalized and intertwined lore. For me it really just comes down to the perspective, which is why I didn't really care for them. Totally understand the issue with readability though, and ill concede that league is better than smite in this aspect. Sometimes smite God skins make them look like totally different people, and that can be an issue when you need to know what you're up against and avoid abilities. Sometimes though, I have that issue just plain out with league champs since there's so many but I'm sure if I had 4k hours in it I'd know what's up. But damn if some of those global ults just aren't plain messed up. It's just devasting when you don't know it's coming, or that it's even something that could be coming. I think new players are gonna struggle with that in either game honestly lol. No way they won't struggle with 100+ in both games, and 4 abilities per character. Overall though, I agree with your points and your comment was both constructive and informative. This is my first real youtube vid so I'm bound to miss things, so I appreciate any constructive feedback like your comment. Also, Merlin's pretty fun, so good luck and have fun if you actually do end up playing.

hey there, i am exactly what youre looking for i picked up both smite and league at roughly the same time so i dont have as much bias for the newbie scene i will say that i prefer smite to league for a couple reasons 1. camera angle. 3rd person is much more simple than top down. while top down has the advantage of being able to see the whole map, the average player has no use for every detail. 3rd person does force you to rely on the minimap a lot and prevents you from knowing exact details of fights youre not in but it also makes gameplay more simple and callout reliant 2. player base. anyone who has spent more than 5 minutes in league knows how toxic the community is. smite isnt much better, but there are generally less people with mics and bc of the console player base, less people who type out messages. ive been called dozens of slurs i didnt even know existed before playing league (and git gud doesnt really help for advice when this is your 5th game ever experience). smites toxic player base will either troll or spam "you rock" and "cancel that" which i much prefer to being called slurs 3. smurfs. the sheer number of league smurfs is staggering. playing a real match for the first time was quite obvious to me bc i immediately started getting pummeled. in my first few games i could not finish without at least 9 deaths bc i had never seen the champions before and i barely knew how to play mine. smite does have some smurfing issues but most toxic players find their way to joust pretty quickly or get annoyed at teammates enough times to return to their old accounts 4. skill ceiling. for the shitty tutorial youre given in both games, smite has the redeeming quality of location guides. with the press of a button, smite can tell me exactly where i need to go next to make sure that i stay on top of things with my role. for the life of me, i could not find a similar feature in league. i wound up having my brother attempt to teach me where to go and what to do and how to play each character. i also dont like games that force you to play a certain way. recommendations for builds and guides on where to go helped when i first started smite, but i got the hang of it on my own. afterward, i could play like me, trying out weird builds, weird positions, weird characters, and endless combinations. i had no basis for building in league and had a lot of trouble finding the "recommended" build so i wound up just building random items based on what i think they do, which really didnt work out in my favor. i also didnt want to just use someone else's style of building and playing, bc it didnt feel right. as sure as i am that it would make me better, im not much of a fan of abandoning my own ideas for someone else's. this is also why i dont like cod overall, i prefer smite, and play it more bc i enjoy it more

I think what League offers really is its competitive scene - the climbing up to the end of the ladder. Players are more towards being competitive these days. Smite does not offer that same scene. In Smite you can play competitively when you are in Bronze but you'll be matched with someone who is Platinum. That insane skill difference is why many players do not play Smite. Which brings me to the actual player base of Smite, even though you mentioned that Smite can be played with different consoles, it still lacks that player base. Unfair matching, lack luster competitive scene, poor player base is why Smite fell off to League of Legends. I think its also unfair that you don't have the same game time for both games, whereas you did not touch upon League's in game currency mechanics and inventory. Each time you level up, you'll be rewarded a capsule with blue essence, orange essence, champion shards, mythical essence so that you can play those champions you want to try; and instead of buying directly in the shop, you can unlock champion shards for at least 75-90% Blue essence in your inventory. Orange essence are for skins, you can get skins without paying for RP. Mythical essence is for exclusive, limited-time cosmetics, you can also get them without paying for RP. as you play more competitive or just quick play you gain these rewards which encourages the player to play more because of the free stuff they can get. You did not point this out in the video. I commend Smite for its 3rd person tho, I really liked that one but only that one. I played the game for also 3 years while I played league since 2012.

Also because league is a popular multiplayer PVP game in our current era, people sweat their fucking balls off, so I can't EVER play this game casually no matter the gamemode, smite on the other hand is playable even while not paying attention to it.

I choose league over smite for numerous reasons, however I play smite more cuz I don’t have a pc. I have league on my phone but it’s not the same but I was happy as shit when it dropped on iOS. I like league more cuz a) I fell in love with it first outta genuine love for playing it, my love for smite came from not having access to a pc anymore but a ps4 back in 2016 and I was actually looking to see if league was on console and instead smite came up. The camera view for smite is cool and all, but I fell in love with league for everything it had to offer, the gameplay, the characters, the maps, the graphics, the vibe of the game, the tone, the feel, the color palette, I loved the whole game. Contrary to what people may feel, I like the fact that you don’t have to typically actually aim in league considering it’s so fucking hard and significantly harder to play smite on a console than a pc considering the aiming settings and input settings for controller are lacking. It’s cool to have skill gaps, but when taking out that major skill gap, and when the game boils down to strictly gameplay, teamwork, and good or bad decisions, it makes playing the game and enjoying the experience and actually experiencing the game easier. It’s harder to get absolutely dogged on before you can even react in league, sweats in league just have bigger brains than you and play better and have better builds, sweats in smite is like playing sweats in a shooter game like cod or Fortnite…it’s annoying as shit cuz you stand NO CHANCE cuz they either are aim botting, or the skill gap is so insane they might as well be aim botting. And the smite characters and gameplay is wayyyyyyyyyyy more toxic than league. Essentially, smite is more obnoxious than league

Smite is just overall more convenient in most aspects. It amazes me that people put League on such a high pedestal over Smite while lacking something as basic as an actual practice mode to test out champs and skins. Actually insane that the biggest game in the world can't be bothered to add that. Smite 100% does skins and cosmetics better, and a lot of league players even agree with that. Being able to see every little detail on the skins due to 3rd person makes it more worth shelling out real money imo. Smite's #1 problem is that the game has zero presence in the Asian market in the east. This is mainly due to Tencent having control over essentially everything and being the only door into China. Plus they're already profiting from their ownership of Riot/League so there's no point in allowing a rival in. I don't remember the exact situation, someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but iirc at the start of Smite's lifespan there was a pro Chinese team that had no idea what certain gods did because they had never seen them prior to the tournament they were in due to Tencent's restrictions on god releases.

The fact that you started by comparing smites main menu to Halos was pretty indicative of the quality of the video. Its very surface level and most of your points just boildown to personal preference which is fine, but you hardly even mentioned the actual differences between the modes summoners rift and conquest like the different lengths of lanes and hiw that makes them play differently. Or even how jungling differs between the 2 games. As someone who played smite all the way through high scool and has switched to league since i know there are many points you could make what would be more substantial than what was offered.

The only some-what valid point he made was about the perspective, being top down compared to 3d. But that would boil down to preference again. I haven't played smite in a long time but i have dabbled in league recently and the latter is a lot more snowbally and fast paced, which again might come down to preference, but i feel league pushes it a bit too far compared to smite.

I do think Smite is an overal better game than LoL, but god damn the point he made almost felt like a LoL player was trying to make some psiops by making a video that would make Smite players look dumb. You could talk about how better the gearing in smite is, with the removal of boots and not having bullshit like runes to manage, or the way the two jungle is structured, or how often the game update maps and items compared to LoL... but no, he went right for the surface level "feeling" and got stuck here all video long... this was embarrassing.

I started playing smite during the closed beta when they gave Tribes: Ascend players an invite code. I've played it every year since, sometimes taking a multi-month long hiatus to curb burnout. I love Smite and truly enjoy it more than LoL solely for the 3rd person movement. However, I'm so close to never opening that game again, as HiRez, or whatever studio they made to continue developing this, continues to fail putting in ANY creativity or effort into development. All the abilities are the same shapes that have been in the game 4 years ago, no actually new mechanics, all the items are constantly the same, conquest changes are hardly anything, and there is NO build diversity with almost every god. There's a handful that you can build assassin instead of warrior and vice-versa, but that's it. Meanwhile, LoL consistently makes massive changes to all the items, the map, objectives, and insanely different new champions. I feel Smite could actually compete with LoL in marketshare if they put more effort into creative development of their game, instead of more loot box and $100 event skin bullshit trying to milk their dying community more. And now saying "Fuck You" to all the beta players who supported the game with the Poolseidon skin that was promised to be NEVER available again, to only recolor and remaster the skin, and sell it again. Fuck HiRez, it's just a money-grubbing company that couldn't give less of a shit of it's community.

This is his opinion all these league fanboys I swear.😂 I used to play league and once smite came out I started playing it more and quit league in 2020 and stuck to smite. I actually prefer the 3rd person view than looking at your character from a birds eye view. I guess its because I come from fps games and 3rd person shooter games. Smite is more fun and you get to see the skins in the game up close as well I love that! So stop the hate it's his opinion go play league you don't need to watch the video.

Biggest comparison I make to say smite is better than league is accessibility to the characters via the god pass in smite, considering the price, it is more than worthwhile and pays itself off as time goes on as you play, cause with league it tries and gives you time to learn the champions, but when you either barely play the game or flat out regret getting a champ due to a lack luster gameplay loop, it becomes more of a absolute slop of a time sink rather than playing for your personal enjoyment. And for that’s what I think good moba design is having access to the roster you play the game for. Everything else about both games are just comparing apples to oranges. Both are related to each other by the genre but only on the surface.

I think I like SMITE way better is because it feels less outdated in the first place. I mean cmon... how long are we gonna stick to the top down MOBA? You see great new ideas like Battlerite and Gigantic and they just die? I'm glad SMITE is alive but only because it has a heavily popular theme to it (Mythology) and retains A LOT of classic MOBA elements, yet changes so many things by being a 3rd person WASD type. I also love the gameplay mechanics in general, aiming abilities and comboing, specific characters being combo characters and honestly allowing devs to make very complex characters in terms of movement and ability effects because players are able to actually play them properly instead of having to click the screen 50 times like in LoL. And the movement is also a fantastic part, there are SO many movement abilities that also pair well with other abilities into combo potential that is also easy to execute thanks to the WASD system. Also building feels easier because the menu seems way simpler compared to league with so many damn icons everywhere. I know SMITE 2 will adapt a more LoL like build system, but I doubt they will make overly complicated and will definitely have a nice, similarly simplistic UI that shows you all build paths etc. Unlike in league where it's kind of confusing what you should build, you constantly see people buying a hundred low tier items and then not knowing which items to buy, when to upgrade. I hope SMITE 2 sticks to the simple keep building one item at a time, just divert it into being able to build an item from different smaller items to fit more diversity in early game.

I played smite since closed beta to around Season 5 or 6 tbh i dont remember when I stopped, and the reason i did was because all the new gods to me were boring and I had the same form of gameplay in some other god, of corse there are exceptions (Janus for exemple is probably their best designed god of all time). Begining of this year i tried to get back i to smite they got better with god design il give them that, but I absolutely hate their skins, for 1 verg simple reason THEY BREAK SILHUETTE, i cant stress this enough i had over 6k hours in smite i came back and i didnt understand who i was fighting alot of the times, that was ok if it was a new god its to be expected, just to check the scoreboard and be like WTF THATS FENRIR! Its fundamental game design and character design, to never break silhuette to much, there must be what its called "fundamental truths" for exemple in league they would never give senna a tiny weapon (She has a weapon thata bigger than ber) but in smite well i seen stuff like fenrir not being a dog, or well for exemple in this video there was chang'e holding a sword i believed it was belona for a second. There are incidents where league skins are p2w in small things but smite takes it to another whole lvl and thata my biggest problem with it, its fine if youre a casual player but MOBAS tend to be competive and thats what I look for in them, if i wanted to just have fun a chill id play a single player game or some other form of multiplayer game because in my opinion they are the pinicle of competition in games.

@5:38 this point is also incorrect in regards to league and leagues minion system as a whole, and why league is far more in depth gameplay-wise compared to smite. Destroying a nexus does give super minions, but the super minions have an aura that buff nearby minions by a lot and champions by a small amount. Also minions are stronger if your team is ahead allowing waves to push automatically for your team, but this can of course also be used as a catchup mechanic when behind since you can safely farm at tower. It allows for much more in depth decisions in regards to wave control and minions, compared to smites "push the wave and keep it outside of tower" playstyle, which just caters to choosing gods with strong wave clear being the obvious better option.

Loved Smite since 2012 and don't generally like League, but I think that League skins have their own unmatched aspects. Smite has been taking IPs like RWBY (My favorite piece of media) and integrating it into the game, where League does the opposite. League doesn't just make 4 skins, they make 4 skins, create a music video for them that's been viewed close to 600 MILLION times, and then those skins get an entire sub fandom dedicated to them. Or they create a different line of skins, and then those get an entirely new video game based around them. League is unmatched in terms of turning things into massive events.

Conext: I have 1000 of houers in league and only about 300 in Smite. The option to look at stuf you d like to buy is 100% "better"/"ammazing" in Smite. I wished i could try stuf in leagues Practice tool without buying it! So far i do agree with what is said in this video. While i still agree that the Smite "main menu" is better then leagues "client", i still consider bouth shity for spamming all this advertisment for a crap ton of stuf i couldnt care less about. But yes even myselth with way to many houers in league has a hard time finding the rigth "sub menus" in the league client. Now to the points i feel you didnt put league in a fair position: League also has: Play to unlock skins (with the hextech chests events etc). Way to many cosmetics like skin specific borders for the loading screen. (Added on top to your personal border) Titels based on your "achivments" Achivments Icon borders unlocked by leveling / ranked. I don’t think enough was said about the gameplay. I have much more time in Smite than League, but the biggest reason I prefer smite is not bc of skins, or the menu music, it’s the gameplay. Click to move and auto attack is just so clunky to me. Using WASD to move while being able to aim with my mouse simultaneously is such a better experience. I also think a lot of comments about League being better here are so oblivious to the idea that just because your game has 20x the player base, does not inherently make your game better. League has been around a bit longer than Smite and has a much larger budget. They can advertise their game much more than Smite. If League had WASD movement I would play it a lot more, but using click to move and shoot is just so clunky and feels outdated to me. I will say though that the character diversity in League is in general superior to Smite. Every champ in League feels entirely unique in their own way whereas Smite has a lot of Gods that are so similar to one another which takes away from diversity of class selection. I don’t think one game is inherently better than another, but I don’t understand why more people won’t give Smite the chance I think it deserves.

Okay I gotta say that is kinda unfair to compare both games since the 3rd person Camera makes it more comparable to a Hero Shooter, and YES I KNOW ITS CATALOGUED AS A MOBA, but it just doesn't feel as one for me, its more like its own thing and thats why it appeals to a more niche audience.

I can definitely see that. However, they share ALOT of aspects with one another aside from perspective. like laning, towers, jungles, jungle camps, minions, 4 abilities with one being an ult, a nexus/titan, etc. I can definitely agree on the appealing to certain audiences. I've seen alot of people suggest that rts players moved to league when rts games started to fall down hill. Despite myself being a strategy game enjoyer and not doing it, I can certainly see why that may have happened.

It would've been a great feature. And about top down/3rd person perspectives - in league you play as summoner who more of an observer, so he needs no see entire battlefield toake decisions, in smite you play as god, as character you chose so theres different perspective. It is fucking baffling League doesnt have an Arena mode yet (or rather it did, it was called Dominion but they shut it down because the billion dollar company could not be arsed to upkeep it) The cool thing about Arena is that it gives players room to practice and master their character's micro mechanics in a low-risk but still live environment (how they play, what they can do, what they cannot do, what items work best, what build combinations are viable, their movement strats, their combos etc) while not forgetting about teamfights. Once the micro is done they can then focus on learning the macro aspects offered by the other game modes (game sense, team coordination, team composition, obective priority, spawn timers, positioning, gold efficiency) without worrying about learning micro at the same time. I used to be an Ezreal and Vel'koz main, two champions which are mechanically very intensive to master, and I always recalled how painful it was to have to learn both how to play my champion and worry about CS, getting ganked, team comp, etc at the same time because Summoner's Rift was my only option to practice said champions whenever I wanted (and sometimes, not even then because i either get sorted into a role i dont want or get my main banned or picked before me.)

Theres a huge amount of points that you ignored in this video, and... theyre the main ones honestly. Smite is aimed at the more casual playerbase, its why the ranked system is awful (top 16% for diamond, or top 2% for the highest rank in the entire game outside of top 50 players... really?) Its embarrassing how easy it is to achieve the top ranks if it wants to be considered a competitive game, which by the game modes, skins, the fact its available on switch etc. is why it isnt a competitive game, its purely casual. The best comparison is smite is saints row and league is gta. Its great for what it offers but theyre not even the same type of game anymore. Smite is awesome if you want to just chill and play a few games with friends while chilling out after a long day. Dota is aimed at the hardcore 10,000 + hour moba players, and league is the middle balance. Ultimately you should choose whatever fits the style that you want.

i've played both. i think league surpassed smite because of it's camera angle innitially. the angle introduces much more complexity where you can zoom your camera around your whole map at any second. this means whilst in smite i was playing one view the whole time. in league i see everything. that extra complexity goes a long way for game mastery potential. i should say that when i played it i did enjoy smite. but it kind of felt like a less fleshed out and less complex itteration of league. i agree with your comments about the client even if over time it had grown on me; for ne wplayers its not very interesting.
@DaCodesta
@DaCodesta 6 месяцев назад
I can agree with most of that. League's camera and the ability to move around the map is strategic, and has definitely roped in a lot of strategy gamers with the lulls of strategy game in past years. It adds a layer of complexity, which can be good or bad depending on the player. Comparably, Smites camera forces you to be more aware of your surroundings. It's much harder to be aware of incoming dangers, or what's happening in other areas of the map. This leads you to have to make decisions quicker, which makes it faster paced. I personally like how smite is more in the moment with its camera, and that it's generally faster paced. But, I can certainly see why someone might like the league perspective. I just would prefer to play a strategy/rts game instead. League client definitely isn't that compelling , but I can see how it could grow on people, especially once you get used to it

I will say smite has better quality of life and just more to offer in game modes. Main menu is nice rather than a client that sometimes has music for a new champ or event. League use to have so much more to offer years ago but now its just the same 2 game modes with a ranked system that's filled with a awful player base and at low ranks account bots. Skins can go either way with smite having more customization with options for everything. I use to play smite everyday in middle school and tried to come back to it but trying to learn again and going against people that have been playing for years is not fun. The lower player base kills it for me and league has the same problem with smurfs and everything but I still feel better learning a completely new game and sometimes getting stomped cause of misplays and bad itemization against certain champs.

Interface barely matters. No one plays MOBAs for the interface. Gameplay, Smite is no where near as deep as league. You may think the close up over the shoulder camera is good but I think it sucks because it more easily shows the age of the models/animations which don't look that great. It almost feels goofy. Atleast in league it's topdown so it feels like we are moving chess pieces around. League CANNOT be played on console. There's too much going on in the game. I need to constantly be aware of what's going on. I need to be able to tab and see my opponents items and CS numbers, I need to be able to move my camera around the map. I need to be able to go through shop quick and easy by typing the name of itmes etc. Smite is not as deep so you can play it on console. Smite skins are also much much lower quality on average than league skins, at least the league skins that werent made 8 to 11 years ago. League is not the most complex game, its not dota but it strikes the best balance between being a good looking game thats deep while not being babys first moba like smite.
@DaCodesta
@DaCodesta 6 месяцев назад
I can see your point, although I disagree with your statement saying interface doesn't matter. Though I do see where you're coming from with the animations and models. If you're comfortable with just staring at your character from above like a strategy game, moving in it like a chess piece, then by all means. I personally would rather just boot up an actual RTS, but to each their own. And this is the reason it can't be played on console, no other reason. The perspective, plus the way you attack enemies, plus how abilities are cast, is the only reason it couldn't be played on console. The way they went with in gameplay just simply wouldn't work. I think League is definitely more tactical and strategic (which i express in the vid), but smite is simply just more fun to play. I do find the example you chose pretty funny though, because you can look at people's items and stuff pretty easily on Smite console as well. I suppose if you're not dexterous enough with controllers you might struggle a bit lol. As far as buying items go, if you're experienced at smite as much as you're experienced at League, buying items shouldnt take long at all. Even with a controller, it takes at most 10 seconds assuming you didnt do any prep work. Typically for me, while in lane, I already have the menu ready to buy the item the moment I recall or die. Honestly if you PLAN AHEAD, buying a item takes maybe 3 seconds AT THE MOST. All in all though, your comment isn't wrong, and you're entitled to your own opinion. Smite is CERTAINLY more beginner friendly after all, since league is devoted pretty heavily to their competitive scene.

Better advertisement, more famous/renown, competitive scene, age, league being the og moba, etc. There's plenty of reasons. 1 game can be better than another, or even more fun but still not be more popular. It really depends on a how a company manages to being players in, which league has done a really great job in doing. A game like call of duty ghosts for example, despite being agreed on as of the worst Call of duty games from the franchise, still managed to pull millions and million of players, thanks to the history of COD, how competitive it is, and its name sake.

This is a rather disappointing video. I have long since liked smite and league, playing league since 2013 and smite off and on since 2016. However, these takes are pretty bad for comparison of two games. This was bordering on game journalist levels of bad takes. Both games are fine, but to compare the two you would first have to actually play both in equal measure. Or at least for a length of time that doesn't just scream "picked it up for a week and hardly played." I love smite for the concept, the lore, and some of the gameplay, but I cannot stress more that the many things it has in game modes hardly hold up in comparison. Conquest feels like a beheaded attempt at matching summoner's rift. I understand that three lanes isn't unique to league, but I struggled to find anyone in smite that felt it could compare. If you don't like league that's fine, but the arguments you made were shallow, uninformed, and made with cherry-picked, favorable attributes.

I've played League off and on since around 2014, but could never fully get into it. I even remember when they first released Jinx. However, since I could never get into it, I stuck more to Smite. So yes, you're right. I have hardly played League in comparison to Smite. Yes, some of my points are nitpicks for sure. For example, the main menu section, I said League's main menu is boring, non immersive, and doesn't hold up to the iconic MOBA that League is, which is definitely true, but I 100 agree it's a nitpick. Sure the idea of a client is interesting, but it's not immersive. I'm sure it works for some people, but egh, I want to feel like I'm gonna play a video game and have fun. Now granted, main menu's don't actually contribute to the game themselves, but if a brand new player were to launch the game, it just doesn't suck you in like Halo, or even Smite For other points like say the top down perspective, I never say that it's outright bad, just that I personally can't get into it, and that it disconnects you from the characters themselves. I personally just enjoy third person more for this type of game. And then for the characters and skins section, I say I think Smite skins are better, but not that League's are bad. In fact, the only place where I even imply something in League is bad, is the game modes, and that's only because they don't have a lot diversity. Oh and I guess, trying champions and skins in practice mode, but come on, that would make getting champs and skins much nicer.

The problem I had with smite was the 3rd person view and preferring the immersion and skill required to pilot a league character. The polish league has is actually amazing and it’s hard to find games that can hold the quality league offer in gameplay “feel”. Also the music thing isn’t really a good argument as each new champ get their own song

@@DaCodesta I played a lot of smite but I'm always coming back to league, cause top down is simply better for strategic purposes. I need to be able to see everything around me at 100% efficiency AND also be able to spam f-keys to move the camera to my allies' positions to check lane states, granting me the ability to understand the short-term future development. In Smite, I always felt the need of having voice chat so that I can ask for info and instantly recieve it, instead of having go use chat or voice lines and hoping my allies do the same in return. This also requires my allies to have the knowledge of lane-state analysis, which is not guaranteed. In LoL, I can check myself.

You said a whole lot of words while saying very little of substance. What do you actually not like about Smite and how does League do it better? And why? Etc. You just went straight to "trust me bro, if you played as long as I have you would see my side". That is a weak argument. Personally, I will say that I can't play League anymore due to pain and lack of accessibility options. Smite does this wonderfully, partly due to the 3D nature working with alternative input styles. I think Smite does the Arena part of MOBA way better than League. By which I mean that League lacks playstyle flexibility within class archetypes to a meaningful degree. I think the playerbase likes it that way, just as the Smite playerbase enjoys the freedom that Smite offers. There is much more focus in Smite on teamfights, skirmishes, and it is much more visceral and dynamic than League can ever achieve isometrically. League is not Hades. In Smite everyone to some degree participates in the Jungle, that is not the case for League. And so on. Mostly this is subjective, but I do think in general Smite is more friendly to the player, more relaxed, and more fun overall. That's not a fact. What is a fact is that League will never be a game that does not require constant management of the camera in an isometric fashion and spam clicking. I think we can safely say there will never be a twin stick shooter update for League.

Sadly for me SMITE skins are kind killing the game. I love the ones that fits the Gods lore and they only make it look cooler. But they gone way overboard with the "funny" skins. What League does way way better than smite is that no matter the skin you can easily know what champion it is. Riot really wants that the silhouette of a champion to stay the same no matter the skin so it will be easy to recognize. In Smite you have Thor over there and right next to it is a Hotdog and a Can of Beans that are actually Gods too. What is the point of having a game with literally Gods but turn them in some V-Tubers or some Jokes. Sadly for me when skins like that are in the game, the game itself becomes a joke and I can't take it serious. Also it is really hard for a new player to understand what is he fighting against. I would really really really love an option in the game to disable all the skins or not lore accurate skins. I love how the Gods look but when a giant cat mews at me (and that is supposed to be the freaking Jormungand....) sorry but no... That being said, after over 20.000 hours in League and @100 in Smite I can say that I enjoy playing Smite more. But God I hope in Smite 2 they will tone down when it comes to skins.

After passing out in multiple discord calls watching my friend use Porofessor and having Nunu’s throw his game, I won't be getting into league. The spam clicking is abhorrent and out dated as a movement technique, especially for a game where you move a single character rather than an army. I cant wait for smite 2 because then my friend MIGHT try it again lol.
