It’s the little things that got me. Picking up cigarettes, cleaning, reorganizing and doing bullshit details all of the time. Also, running sucked. Infantry was definitely the wrong job choice.
Spot on, sir! I really wanted to serve, but it is very stressful being enlisted as a single parent. A lack of support from leadership and knowing I’ll make more money as a civilian have me thinking it’d be smartest to ETS and switch to Reserves.
Another reason is not getting selected for promotion twice+ in a row, and not being selected for selective continuation, and/or hitting a mandatory retirement age (eg 20 years MAJ, 28? years for LTC, 30 years for COL). For enlisted if you are not selected for promotion at some point you have to leave (eg 8 years for SPC, 14 years for SGT, 20 years for SSG).
