Nice video. One additional fun fact: I worked at Chrysler HQ from 2002 - 2007 and near the end of the Chrysler/Daimler debacle, the new directive was to place a Hemi in everything and damn near all efforts were placed into making that happen. Fast forward to today, and you see the fruit of that labor.
Their terrible reputation as an Auto manufacturer? Pretty much every auto dealership around me is empty with the exception of the Jeep/Chrysler lots, they're full of inventory.
Wow, what a surprise. Most guys would have just listed everything absolutely wrong, going on a tirade, and I wouldn't blame them because it's a lot easier to make content being critical, and deconstructing a design, especially when you've got experience wrenching, and building these engines...but you gave credit where it was due! Takes a big man to look at things from the positive perspective. Heck, made me feel/look like a hater critical of the Mopar, when I'm supposed to be the Mopar guy Lol!
Shit I love chevy but they fell tf off and these days for any environment situation Mopar is killing it because my jeep is alot of fun when we get a ton of snow but my impala still is my baby for spring and summer🤷🏾♂️😂💯
The 5.7 is more responsive to mods than the 6.4, that’s why you don’t see many fully built and modded 392s, it just makes more sense to just get a Hellcat. It’s also not like you can’t build a 1200 hp LT, Hennessy will even give you a warranty.
The 5.7 is like the scat pack the reason they take bookstore is because they have more to gain than the scat. It's like a fat lady and a skinny lady at the gym, who is going to get bigger results?
Has much less to do with any of that and much more to do with the build cost for the Apache 6.4 due to the height of the ringlands. You have to internally build a 6.4 before doing any boost mods or nitrous whereas the 5.7 comes plenty capable of doing either from the factory. It's more cost effective, but the 6.4 is absolutely capable of having a killer build with high horsepower, I've seen them before. Including a TT (twin 58mm's) Yellow Jacket build knocking on the door of 1k hp on a light tune.
Both pieces of dog sht will end up imploding and wont live to see more than 50k miles. Ls all day every day... There is a reason Why these cars are the saturday night special of the basquetball youth.

The Eagle heads are an absolutely fantastic design. They respond well to porting on top of the fact that they flow pretty wild numbers right out of the box.

Take your transmission to Southern HotRod i heard they do good work on transmission but you got to ship it to them and they will ship it back to you once they’re done
Geez I think i’ll stay stock I’ve heard several stories like that im not sure i have the stomach to spend 20k to pick up a second at track and still get beat buy half the electric cars being sold. Although im sick of getting 12:40s at 1/4 it’s depressing also.
I think we can all agree if everybody threw everything they could at any of these platforms you can close to a couple thousand horsepower out of any of them Dodge Ford and Chevy
I'm not as familiar with Ford, but the latest generations of LS and Hemi are amazing. You can get big horsepower numbers with simple one-click order kits! Back in ye old days of yore, I remember working on budget performance engines with my dad. You had to plug some oil galleries, bore out others, and pull all kinds of tricks to get oil pressure to the right places. No one could really tell you 100% what needed to be done for a given block, so you had to take advice from this book, that magazine or old Gus who worked down at the machine shop. Forget about kits! You'd have to mix and match this part with that one, and see what could be machined to order.

Excellent video! I have 2006 300c SRT8 6.1L. 12.9K miles great condition. I feel its the best sounding HEMI 😌. Love the simplicity of the engine. 8 cylinders all day everyday! I like the idea of building it up but I'm enjoying my light mods for now (tune, exhaust, CAI) with 275 tires on all around.
I used to have a 07 300 Srt8, I miss that thing to death!! Having a HC is cool & all but it comes with unnecessary attention.. if I had to do it all over again.. I would’ve dropped a built up motor in the 300… the one thing I didn’t like about the 300 was that the suspension stayed in Trackmode..
@@mr.300c A stroker kit or motor. @@marlboropiked very valid! That's my thing, building is cool but for me if you go too far then I feel financially its better just to get a Hellcat. The 300 SRT does jump off the line good though 🤭. @@mr.300c those are good miles… when I sold mines it had 86k.. metallic steel blue… I got caught up in the HP numbers but 600-650 would be great for that car… I had them both for a bit to kind of see the difference. The suspension & 5 speed transmission was the biggest difference between the two besides one being supercharged. Also it was way cheaper to deal with the 300 vs the “money taker” lol!
Not what I expected at all, well done! No sensationalized click bait crap here. Great knowledge and well presented. Not just a spam over view like most. You took the time to show some solid technical. You presented the ring-land and clearance issue nicely. You didn't dumb it down for views and still presented it in a way that most will understand it easily. Liked.
I like the video, great work! One major correction: the SRT engines have never been a bored out version of the 5.7L. They are separate blocks and are treated significantly different during manufacturing (ex: deck plate honed).
If I remember correctly, the SRT8 engineers were saying the 6.1 is indeed a different engine and was engineered to be raced for 100k miles before a rebuild.
They have the same block. I know this because the 6.1L Hemi has an orange painted block, “Hemi orange”, so that they could differentiate the blocks in the factory.
6.1s started out as 345 blocks and just upstroked even tho 6.1s are thinner casting blocks from a 6.2 and 6.4 and 5.7 different block but still started life as a bare block 345ci
Man the SRT-4 was the coolest and most unique SRT made especially in it's class. Nothing was ever like it and it made great power , smoking cars 2 to 3 times it's price. The exhaust note was heaven sent
Only way chevy can make a real good come back is to get those 632's in a updated chevelle but keep it with alot of its classic traits since the corvette is high priced and looks alot like a Ferrari now😔
I appreciate videos like this! Very informative and entertaining, I hope you post more like these! Especially covering more engines, from Honda, the Mitsubishi 4G63T and 6G72 engines 😎👊🏽
I've always been one who appreciates all the performance the American big 3 put out. I've owned vehicles from all 3 over the course of my life and all were good. Currently I own a 2018 Mustang GT putting out about 500 crank HP with some mods and couldn't be happier. I looked at Camaros, Corvettes, and Challengers but settled on the Mustang mainly because of its looks, performance, and the sound of that Gen 3 Coyote. Of all of them I personally think the Ford 302 sounds the best coming out of a good performance exhaust. Mine is the Corsa Extreme and it sounds like race day at NASCAR lol
The gen 3 coyotes are on a whole different level. Small bock 5.0 with crazy reliable power on stock internals and stock block. Single turbo coyotes have hit 7-8 sec 1/4 miles and still reliable
Haven't finished the video quite yet but I can vouch for the 6.1 reliability, got a 2010 Challenger SRT that gets daily driven (and yes through the snow) and has 167k on it with same trans and the motor has never been cracked open once
Great video, Nice edits, good content and the best part was: the information you shared was factual, not opinionated. Tons of content covered in a short amount of time. My Dad just got a charger scat pack. He's wanted a muscle car my whole life. Just retired and now he gladly rumbles the neighborhood when he leaves in the morning lol.
I have a 2015 Charger Scat Pack with 107K miles I have not spent a dime on the engine and transmission other than tires and brakes (specially tires). This is my daily driver car and used to drive 100 miles a day to work. So far I haven't got the HEMI tick issue as of now, if the tick destroys my engine then I might plan to modify/rebuild the engine or put a 426 HEMI (whichever is more viable) since my extended warranty expired last month and then finally take the car to the track :)
I love what Dodge has done to the Hemi over the years. I remember when the 5.7 replaced the Magnum truck motors. People were blown away by the driveability difference going from a workhorse motor to the thrust of a Hemi. Little did we know we were getting "just the tip" of the iceberg. I just sold my 5.3 L84 Silverado for a Mercedes partly because of your AMG video. I'd say I wanna sell that now and buy a Hemi, but I already have one. My wife drives a 22 Ram Laramie with the etorque. Much as I don't like hybrids and electric stuff, that thing HAULS.
Another thing to note with these engines, is that the truck blocks 6.4 bge, were more robust like the hellcat block, and the truck heads use a different casting, but the same alloy as the hellcat heads. And also flow very well.
The BGE block used in the trucks is also used for the hellcats. The difference is that the BGE block is deck honed for the hellcat not the trucks and of course the different internals (cam, pistons etc.) and the heads. At their base though it's the same block.
First video I’ve watched and I’m really impressed with everything. You’re editing is great. Your knowledge is outstanding. Keep up the great work you got great things coming!
They use LS and LT engines in super cars and Hyper cars. F5 Hennessey uses a modified LSX to achieve 300MPH, I wonder why no one haven't used a HEMI in a lightweight mid engine supercar?
Nicely done. You should mention the few initial hemis that started it all just to be complete. I'd like to see a rundown beginning with the Ford engines crammed into the Cobras back in the 60's all the way up to the current Mustangs.
Initially the hemi was a Mercedes I believe 6 cylinder. Mopar stole the design and obtained the copyright. Then they made 16 cylinder hemi's for planes and tanks.
What he said about boost is semi-correct. You can run about 8psi and be safe. At 8lbs, you're gonna be making about 520whp with no supporting mods on 93. You can run that on the stock motor and be safe. For an N/A route: headers, ported heads/intake, throttle body, cam, and e85 will get you to about 470whp.
@@scw19762011 There's no possible way you're only putting down 385whp if you're FBO, cam, port work, and e85. That's a fully built N/A setup minus a stroker kit. Depending on the tuner and how good your port work is, they could get you 470+ whp with upgraded injectors and added timing on the e85 tune. If you're only making 385whp right now, then I'm guessing you have an intake and a tune, maybe headers. Nothing big.
@@scw19762011 FBO as an N/A version wouldn't. It's still on stock 6.1L displacement. You can do everything to improve airflow and get a more aggressive cam with better fuel, but you wont make 500+whp all motor unless you stroke it.
@tyrone reed I'll stick to my two to three thousand horsepower turbo Trans Am or my Turbo 4 by 4 Silverado that makes 1400 wheel horsepower. LS power. I live in the drag racing world, and I can't tell you how many of these hellcats that I've seen their Motors pop
Since my 5.7 blew up, it’s stroked to a 392 now and I have the best of both worlds. When it’s time to boost, I can really crank it up a bit when built right, until the transmission starts becoming an issue. Definitely a fun and raw motor.
This truly must be a trick question? We all know a certain liter of the SRT engines make good power stock. The problem comes in when you want to add more power. You can't just strap a turbo/SC on it like a LS or Coyote motor. You have to change the internals which is very very costly. Most gear head's know you can take a junk yard 5.3 or 4.8 LS and strap a turbo (your choice of forced induction) and make 1000hp without changing the internals. You can do something similar to the K24-A2 (can't forget my honda guys). You simply can't do that with a SRT, well maybe the Hell kitty motor, even that's a risk. When it comes to any major power with SRT motors if it isn't already boosted (SC) you aren't going to make a lot of HP stock. With the 6 liter motors you can change the upper and lower pulley to make more power, which is great. In comparison to the Coyote, you can simply change the blower to a V3 and make well over 1000hp without changing internals. Which is more cost affective than changing out the very costly internal upgrade to the SRT.
5.7's and 6.1's responded very well to camshaft replacement. The Eagle variants even more so. Making over 500hp at the crank on a non-eagle Hemi isn't hard at all with the correct cam and tuning. So if you're looking for a boosted engine, the LS is the obvious choice on cost alone. If you're wanting to do an all-motor build, the Hemi is an excellent platform but also responds quite well to boost. The early 5.7 with an opened up ring gap can make 800+ on an otherwise stock engine with a turbo.
@@sHoRtBuSseR true, they're one's out there. Although it comes down to cost. Once you have to open that thing up it'll cost at least 7k. At that point it'll be easier to get a $300-$500 junk yard 5.3 LS and get a precision turbo, for much less that it cost to put those o-rings on.
Best boosted motors would be the 6.2 Hellcat motor, the 5.2 Predator, the 3800 in the GN, and the LS9. N/A there’s a LOT of options but to me personally it’s the LS3, the Coyote, the 6.0 LQ9, 5.2 Voodoo, and probably the LS1 for basically becoming the beginning of modern muscle again.
The Apache engine block 6.4l was used from the ram 2500 trucks for the hellcats. A similar cylinder head design from the Apache was also used but technically they are different materials. That’s about the only parts used from the 6.4l. Everything else is unique to the hellcat engine.
Love these educational videos!! Let’s see something from you about the VQ engine or maybe VQ35/37 and VR30. Would like to see reasons why people use the VQ for tuning and roll racing.
The VQ35 had good torque stock, but generally don’t hold up. Ringland issues and rarely make more than 600hp without being forged etc. G35 was a beautiful car when introduced in 2003. I had a 6MT with Brembo package. Loved it. But the car had several issues including the infamous syncro problems in the transmission.
@@jigsaw3334 oh yeah had a pretty nice 07 Altima with a VQ 6MT pretty peppy but after fucking with it too much it wound up not going into 2nd and 4th and it smoked (blown head gasket) decided to let it go. They’re fun when done right I can say that.
People use many motors for tuning, there's no specific reason. Its a good motor that you can make power with. Nothing more to say. I had 05' Altima SE-R. She was a bad bitch. Traded it in on a truck. Every man needs a truck.
Richard holdner has a video where he make well over 1000 hp with a 5.7 on boost from a junk yard simply with gapping rings. If they are gapped right glory runs can be made but really it make’s sense to get forged pistons drop the compression for boost due to longevity. And while your at it cam it. Cylinder pressures become an issue on boost in the higher compression range because the cars are heavier dodge needed an edge but equally works against you for boost working with a higher compression motor this is why the hc is so popular.
You can push 8lbs of boost out of a 6.1 and be fine. I'm currently on 6psi with no issues. I'll definitely be getting forged pistons and rods when I upgrade pulleys though.
My dad had a 2009 Challenger with the 6.1 and while we didn't have it too long after he passed, not one problem with it at all. It also didn't feel like a typical sports car inside, it had a nice black interior with the seats thick enough to make reaching to the floor behind them just impossible. I guess that is a problem in many cars really. It is the first thing that comes to my mind when someone wants me to reach behind me and get something. The only thing I dislike worse is trying to read a book or anything inside the car because it nauseates me. It doesn't bother me reading anything at all outside the vehicle but try to get me to read a lot of paper in the car and be prepared to have your interior a mess!!!
Actually most dyno’s I’ve seen of bone stock LT Camaro’s and Challenger 392’s put them right about a difference of 20RWHP… At that point though your issue is with the drive train and not the engine since crank horsepower is a 1:1 figure.
Ford Mustang GT 460hp, chevy camaro SS lt1 455hp, scat pak 392 485hp. Even if they are on a dyno they would be very close not 5-10hp difference more like 20whp because the 8 speed trans in those is quite good even though they are lacking 2 gears.
@@joshreynolds729 Ive seen most 6.4 L dyno around 430whp and I’ve seen 10 speed 5.0s dyno at 430whp, but for most part 6.4 should have higher numbers. @@iwishigaf It just aint right that the heavy Chrysler 300 no longer offers the V8 variant here for those who want it. I guess most people here in the US dont care about performance so the V6 is the bread and butter. The Pentastar V6 is a nice N/A 6 cylinder but the 300 needs as much torque as it can get.
Simple: If you can only drive in a straight line and cannot build, get Mopar. Nothing wrong with that. If you can drive Circuit and a more into building your power. Get a Chevy. Both have their benefits.
Would like to see more about the NorthStar 32 valve V8. I know alot of people wouldn't care about it. I just want to know why GM went with this engine in some of its vehicles instead of the LS motor
The North Star was an overhead cam engine whereas the LS is a pushrod engine. The LS has great low end power, but the North Star can rev a lot higher and makes peak power in a much different area of the range. If you can fix the head gasket issue they're actually great engines.
It was a semi popular and cheapish upgrade back in the mid 00`s for mustangs. We had one we were going to build up and put into my then new 02 gt, never did it though. But in stock form they were crappy for enthusiasts
Dang i forgot about that, i think they should’ve made it an option for the GT trim since it have the looks of an R/T and give it an extra 30 to 35hp to compete better with the v6 camero and mustang
