Imagine being such a good shooter that teams would rather let Kevin Durant have an uncontested drive to the rim on a fast break than let you shoot a 3.

He probably has the greatest intangibles for a teammate. Shares the ball, no ego, gravity, off ball movement, and just makes shots a lot easier for teammates.

You're the only person to explain Curry's gravity in a way that does it justice. Letting KD just drive and dunk, because you're afraid to let Steph shoot it... absolutely ridiculous. Never seen anything like that before or since. Literally broke basketball logic.

He's a great finisher inside as well. He shoots about 65% within 3 feet. All around god like efficiency.

What this video really showed was the amount of grabbing, tackling, plain old fouling that Steph endured without getting calls, especially in the playoffs. Once in awhile the defender was called but not nearly the same as for Jordan (look at him and it's a foul).

watching these clips reminded me of how reliable shaun livingston was for this team. he only scored 5 or 6 points a game with the warriors, but he shot over 50% every year. It was amazing seeing him come in at the end of the 1st and 3rd, and consistently get buckets while steph and klay rested. Completely unrelated to this video, but he was a major reason for their success

Steph Curry is such a great offensive player that teams would leave Kevin Durant open to guard him a near half-court.

Finally, some credit on Steph's defense. He's not an all-time great defender by any means, but he compensated for the lack of explosiveness and size with sheer effort and physicality.

Funny when breaking down Steph's shooting mechanics TB didn't mention Steph's greatest physical gift - his inner ears. He's got the balance of a gold medal gymnist. It's the key to every part of his game.

So his weakness really is just his size and health. Which led to cavs creating the closest they could to a modern equivalence to the pistons defense (curry rules). That’s scary

A series on top role players would be riveting. I can imagine how the impact of 6th men has changed over time as well as a breakdown as to the why.

Absolutely insane how much this guy changed basketball. When he’s “on” nothing in basketball was more fun than watching that Warrior offense run. And the amazing part is he doesn’t need the ball in his hands to affect the game

Curry’s ball handling was highlighted in this series when you saw the alternative in Tatum who had a ton of TO’s in the finals and couldn’t find his own shot. Also saw this with KD in the first round. Steph and LeBron are a level above KD and Tatum due to their ability to handle the ball and distribute out of a double team.

The craziest thing is this season, 2021, when the Ws has lots of injuries and basically playing 8 men rotation every night, other teams are doubling Curry almost every possession. Yet, look at him, leading the league in scoring at 31.9...

Guarding Steph is probably the most frustrating thing on the planet. He just sprints around the court for 15 seconds, catches a pass turns around flicks his wrist and flings up a perfect shot in 0.4 seconds that ends up barely hitting the inside of the net and then he just turns around and shimmies while you’re left out of breath and confused.

Im glad someone covered Curry's high motor on defense. People always talk about his D as a weakness but he holds his own very well in my opinion

I've been watching Steph since he came into the league. He had flashes of brilliance early on which made me think he could be an all-star one day, but I never expected what he ultimately became. Steve Kerr clearly understood what he could do to a defense and schemed the greatest sports experience I've ever had... And I also got to watch the Giants win 3 world series in 5 years.

My dream for Steph is to win a Finals MVP before retiring. He really should’ve won in 2015, I don’t care what anyone says.

2:03 Him - and i think Kerr was the one who really supercharged this basic concept that Curry, his family and Golden State thought they knew - exploited the fact that everyone is prone to retreat to the basket cause that's where the easiest and high percentage skill is: lay up, and you can use teamwork more easily as well. It eases people's mind, to feel in control up until the end and trying to minimize as best as they can the chance of a miss by if they had to shot, is better to do it as close to the basket as you can. It seams proposterous today but in older times coaches would probably scream at you for spotting up outside the 3 point line, if you weren't one of the few sharp shooters. Intuition and loss aversion says: "the closer the better". But Steph, his dad and coaches saw that if everyone retreats they give you a ton of space to shoot, increasing your % accuracy and hits, and since 3s are worth more than 2s, anyone who were able to hit those at high level would be welcome since they can save a team in a pinch. And really good shooters draws defenders towards them which creates more space for you to run to the basket, i think at first they were thinking more at an individual level and didn't realized how this setted teammates as well, in which Kerr's brilliance comes in later. Since you need to meet a great shooter high - at times really high - and they keep being threatning wthout the ball as a spot up shooter, what you happen if you started the game with them without the ball? spotting up? What you happen if you putted another shooter? Drawing 2 defenders? You would create a ton of space for your other (bigger) players to attack. And what if you start moving your shooters? Teams eventually create tactics and catch up with what you are doing, and if lack of movement is the problem you create one, starting the Cat and Mouse game. This idea of creating all this running routes and blocks with people, antecipating positioning and thinking structural positions ahead, is identical to chess. It's the reason why a small team was butchering team with huge guys in a sport "buid for size". It turns out that the way people were seeing the game all along was backwards, it was not about size, there were many paths to the top of the mountain. And Kerr style unlocked a new reality that was always there. Which makes me think: what are the more expansions we didn't discovered yet but are there?

Steph is probably the most impactful offensive player of all time. It's not just his scoring, efficiency, ball handling, playmaking & finishing...it's also his off ball movement and his gravity which creates a lot of open looks for him teammates.

Despite his size he heavily impacts the game, whilst not even being compared to his own height group (6'4 and below) but rather the great wings and centers in NBA history.

Been watching you for about a year or so and I finally decided to purchase your book right when I got paid today, money well spent one of my favorite youtube channels.

The reason his three is deadly is because he can get by almost anyone, so you can't just play up on him like other shooters of the past, you have to respect his ability to get to the basket and so that creates space for his amazing, quick release threes that happen to be more accurate than any shooter in history. Plus, his off ball movement is a masterclass. Amazing offensive genius which is made more impressive in that he could have never done it relying on physicality alone like some other athletes.

So from 2016-2019, on uncontested 3's, Steph's fg% was the equivalent of a 73% in 2-pointers, which was on par with LeBron's current 0-4 ft fg% of 73.3%.

I absolutely love the series! It has been fascinating to learn about these basketball greats! I would love to seem a similar series of most impactful defenders. I think that there's a lot of potential because a lot of the greatest defenders also has other great elements to their games.

Even with all the praise he gets I think he’s still underrated. He has so many nuanced parts of his game that makes him amazing. I think his impact profile is pretty similar to Shaq, he and curry don’t have the malleable scoring like Kobe or Hakeem, nor the heliocentric style like Lebron or magic, but they are so efficient that defenses bend to their will
