There is etiquette to everything, including Street Racing, there are also different forms. A quick 0-50 drag off a light against a buddy with nobody around is one thing if you ask me. Having sense helps. Knowing your setup, knowing how to handle a part failure. Throttles sticking, steering loss, ect. Scary stuff can happen at points of failure. The higher the speed, the more dire a point of failure can become.
I think one of the big problems, is that developers buy land near race tracks to build houses and then the people that buy them complain to the local authority and the track gets closed down for noise complaints, even though it was there first. This happened to many race tracks in the UK and Europe. I don't know if this is an issue in the US but as a result there is only one drag strip left in the UK, which is Santa Pod raceway... It's a crying shame and the reason street racing is getting worse here as well...
Exactly! There's a new development with 16 expensive building lots "in a quiet neighbourhood" for sale right now. That neighbourhood is right next to Zolder Terlaemen circuit in Belgium, not even 100 meters from the track. If you read the history: that area would still be a forest without the track.
In the Missouri driver's manual there is a section that mention street racing. That people have been arguing over who has the fastest car since the world's second automobile rolled off the production line lol.
Back when I allegedly attended those events we hated the sideshow guys because they always made the spots hot by attracting the wrong attention like doing donuts while firing guns in the air all of it disrupting the guys that just wanted to do a run we’d move on but eventually they followed. Same thing happens at car meets too I stopped going to those for the same reason
It’d be cool if street racing was still like what you have described it being back in the day. Highway racing is dangerous, slideshows are for those without a brain, but a group of dudes and a couple cars behind a warehouse or in the country doesn’t pose a great threat to the innocent. People just want clout and that’s what’s dangerous.
Fun fact: I'm from Modesto,CA where American Graffiti was filmed and based, director George Lucas was born and raised here until he graduated high school, we still cruise and street race til this very day
My dad would always tell me " take it to the race track your more likely to be helped and survive faster than being helpless and dead doing street racing" .
I'm going to have a bit of a "back in my day" moment here. In the mid 2000's I use to partake in road going motorsports here in the UK. But the rule of thumb for me was quiet roads, country lanes and places away from built up areas near houses and industrial estates where they were still opened through the night. Those times were fun, they were as safe as you could make them and we all had a good time. Nowadays, in the mind of these young drivers, any road is a race track at any time of day. I get that track days are expensive but why risk higher premiums by getting caught or crashing into Joe Public. There doesn't seem to be any "un-written rules" anymore.
And to add, I wouldn't want any of these clowns at a track day. I've been to a few when the "boy racers" turn up and it becomes a day of black flag breaks.
Absolutely 💯 percent just watch the videos on RU-vid about the crashes that happen the vehicles are unrecognizable being these kids that think they are invincible they should show them the Red Asphalt series and scare them straight
@@sataneatcheese6243 the Boy racers ruined the H2OI event in Ocean City for everyone H2OI was a respected event they had one boy racer who shut down the Bay Bridge eastbound to do donuts and was caught the next day 😆 lol
The car idiots that post their “stunts” on the net really crack me up. I was young once. I did PLENTY of stupid stuff. I did stupid stuff with cars. (And motorcycles) There is NO PROOF of any of it! There are stories the people that were there can tell but no proof on video. I am not proud of the stuff I did. Me and my friends talk about it, we “bench race” and tell tales that get taller every time we tell them. I don’t tell my kids. None of my crew ever went to jail, one of my guys went to the hospital. His car was totaled and we LIED to the police when they got there. And he got away with it, except for the dislocated shoulder he got from the wreck and the loss of his Vette. We still laugh about that today,30 years later. Nobody ever told what really happened. Now a bunch of idiots with cell phones would post it and if they didn’t they would save the vid and show everybody until the wrong person saw it.
Street racing is the casual sex of the car world. It will never go away, We need to do better than this by having more sanctioned events at tracks. HOWEVER Takeovers/Sideshows has a special place in Hell. I hope that stops because its nothing but cancer to the rest of us who are in the hobby. It should never be associated with street races.
In Detroit if you have a "performance" car and are in an area where there was a street race a takeover or a sideshow the police can take your car and impound it even if you were not involved.
When I was a teenager , my local PD had a purple 3rd gen Trans Am . They’d drive around all night reving at stop lights trying to entrap people. He tried me once , luckily I knew better .
The underground world of real street racers like the old days still exists and that is a victimless crime but these idiots that race on busy city streets are stupid and make it all look bad. Side shows are also stupid. It's just provoking authority.
I was in my Jr year in high-school when this came out. The first light out in front of the AMC 2 corvettes took off, one lost control and ripped the rear end right out of it hitting the median. 100 kids pouring out while also getting to watch a real street race! EPIC night!!!
To be fair I tried to race legally. On the outskirts of Sacramento there’s a drags strip called Sacramento Raceway Park. AFTER the track had been around for ages new house were built near the track. Then people started complaining about the noise and have been trying to close down the track ever since. So where does that leave us to race? Yep. The street.
You need to go and complain about these people at your town hall meetings. They chose to move to a neighborhood near a track🤦🏻♂️. Do not allow new people come to your area and try to change it!
@@bri-manhunter2654 yeah I agree, but it’s a losing battle. They’ve already had to do a 9pm curfew because of noise. I believe the property is up for sale as well. It’s ridiculous. Then when someone is killed in a street racing incident you’ll see all these hand wringers on the news saying they should have been racing legally blah blah blah.
That happens a lot and not just California. There were several race tracks in south carolina that were there for like 50-60 years when there was nothing for miles. Then people started moving to right near the race. Karens got all ass hurt and complained about the noise. The race tracks tried several things like noise barriers, mufflers, curfews and didn't matter. Karen wanted it her way. Even though these dipshits decided to move there in the first place. Track shuts down. Then street racing explodes were the track used to be. when it wasn't a problem before. And of course Karens complain about that to.
Gotta say Craig, the timing on your video is spot on for me. Just yesterday I had a very close call against a Hellcat. I could have lost my car, my life, and maybe worse; someone else's. Gotta rethink if that momentary fun is worth the risk. I'll keep on the track going forward. 👍 Thanks.
Speaking of Nebraska: Lincoln, Nebraska any time it warms up and is dry is the worst. Friday/Saturday night until 1am or so, nothing but street races at 48th & O to 84th. Nebraska State Patrol & the cops maybe shut 'em down twice a year after they run up all summer out of control so they're in line for Americruise coming through town. It's the worst and I'm glad I'm out. They could probably fund the city budget forever if they actually policed that section of the road at all.
The kid with the black mustang hit the mother and child a few blocks from where I work. Crazy to think he would speed down such a traveled road not only with traffic but pedestrians.
You can’t even flip burgers with a record. Most franchises have a zero tolerance for any felony. People that get caught are gonna be mowing lawns or working for their uncles construction company
My first movie that got me into cars as a kid in the 90’s was _The Wraith_ It was a lot of fantasy but the music, the car concept and how clean it looked, the scenery from Arizona and more just got me hook ever since before I watched _The Fast & The Furious_ (1,2 & 3 forget the rest)
@@mattryan9444 Yes, I remember when my father record it on the VHS 📼 And from then on I just kept rewatching it many times. Years later, The Fast & The Furious happened amid the tuner scene was at its peak days. Never knew why the concept car never made it to production.
Craig.. I got some car koolness for you.. My stepdads Dad Keith Lilly owned a Standard Oil Gas station in Burbank, CA.. Where Vincent Price frequented his gas station. Getting fill ups and his Rolls Royce checked out.... My Stepdad use to swapout his engines at that same gas station.. Had a 68 Pontiac Firebird with a Keith Black blueprinted built big block V8...broke ball joints if he went too fast over the railroad tracks!
Some people have to make their own choices and learn the hard way. Ticket after ticket and eventually you end up in prison for a decade or longer. You play stupid games, you win stupid prizes.
Ohhh. People say kids are smarter today! I bet to differ. Back in the day. Your cars manual had valve lash instructions. Now your cars manual says to not drink the battery acid.
Definitely the idiots who do intersection takeover erode the street racing scene cuz now everyone thinks of those takeovers whenever street racing is even uttered
Also the elitism. That's shit still lives in a bunch of assholes in the car culture. You can't ask a question unless you have a car. It's a ridiculous.
Y'all giving car culture a bad name by not standing with them if we unite and not act like soft pssys if we disrespect the law all toghether by taking over speeding racing hoonin whatever you like to do they won't bring down the culture. Y'all soft axx are the only one to bring down car culture from the inside. And wyd with a catfish if you ain't swingin it?
that RU-vidr you talked about who got in trouble for his racing videos is Rush Shift. he hasn't uploaded anything since just after he got that C8 Corvette. and he changed his focus from street racing to weight lifting after his cars got impounded.
I have only street raced 3 times. Every time there was Noone around but me and the other dude I was racing. I drive a 92 accord. It's slow. So surprise I've only race a crv (won) a single cam s13 (won) and a Durango (lost) max speed was 110. Long straight empty highways. Haven't done it in a long long time
Craig, you said that you and your friends didn't do street takeovers because you didn't want to be arrested by the cops. Here in Oakland the sideshow crowd doesn't care about getting arrested because the police department is so under staffed that if the police show up, it's only going to be one car with one officer and he is outnumbered by the participants and spectators 200 to 1 and they will pelt his police car with bottles and rocks and other projectiles and the officer will be forced to retreat!
Where does that zero tolerance comes from guys like those.. 🤔In a country where it's not even allowed to burnouts and stuff, where would all that come from. Of one thing I know for sure, the lawlessness has also increased there. Fortunately, you can still do some hard revving here, even though I can't own a car myself, but beyond that, those kind of guys have unfortunately messed up for themselves. It's really not surprising that zero tolerance licks at piece of policy. I'm not saying they're such holy beans here, but here they keep it pretty neat I think
I do have to admit. The parking lot after FF1 got out was off the chain. Definitely some tiremarks to be found on the pavement the next day. (At least we were young and dumb then. Actual adults in intersections should know better)
Maybe update this for the Las Vegas Raiders player going *156 MPH* (!) in a residential area, after midnight. He hit a young woman in a RAV4, just pulling out of her apartment complex.. Her car was damaged, so she she couldn't open the door. The impact severed the gas line, the gas caught fire, and onlookers heard her screaming as she burned to death..
I remember when a big takeover meet fell into a trap from the cops and basically arrested everyone. I also remember some idiot at a takeover that blew his hands off with fireworks. None the less, the cops dont really care too much here in Texas if it's a small street race or in a place where the worst can happen is hitting dirt. Hell, even the cops speed a lot here and always doing dumb stuff
The only reason why the government doesn't step in and limit speeds is because its a multi-billion dollar business. A quick google search tells me on average 30 million tickets are issued per year. So if there is money to be made, you know the government is not going to just get rid of it for the safety of the people.
Within the last couple years, I’ve attended some “street race” meets in my state, and it’s usually fine for a bit. However, without fail, somebody just has to redline their straight piped civic, start squealing tires, or do anything else to be an annoying little shit. They don’t respect anybody; not the car enthusiasts, the police, or the location. Every time, I end up thinking “Dude screw this” and would really rather attend sponsored weekend events and cruises. I’ll be honest, some cops have different opinions than others. Some say “get outta here” some say “hey guys, no racing, just be respectful and quiet” and some say “Hey we know you guys are gonna race, just don’t do it here.” I get some young people are ignorant and wanna have some fun, and street racing can be, but can we please just not be idiots… 🤦♂️
More people need to spread this message. Why can't we go back to cruising? Show off your custom paints and graphics. Why is everyone all about these donuts and high speed highway racing? We need to bring lowriders back.
I enjoy listening to your generation cause you guys where way smarter and had more common sense compared to my generation I’m honestly ashamed of what my generation has become
5:07 It's strange to see an accident that happened close to where I reside in Cape Town, South Africa on this channel. It was quite a bad one. I believe the driver lost both his legs.
The thing with street racing is people need to be more responsible when they do it all the idiots street takeover busy streets people are getting hurt and the rules are getting stricter keep it on empty road where the only one you can hurt is yourself
2:55 What about C'était un Rendez vous 1976? That was the first real driving video, long before Dado and Rob were making DVDs of people driving like a maniac on open public roads.
Did you know it was filmed with a Mercedes? I believe he also had someone watch the traffic right after a bridge/arc, as that was the only blind corner he took.
LMAO😂, I NEVER SAW THAT PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT BY PAUL BEFORE THE PICTURE STARTED I GUESS IT WAS SHOWN IN CERTAIN STATES CAUSE I NEVER SAW IT AT THE THEATER IN TEXAS AND THAT WAS IN 2001.
I'm aware of the consequences. I have a car in a storage unit for my nighttime hobby, my mom comes with me to events sometimes and my brother is a police officer in my local town. I don't do street takeovers or anything. That shit is dangerous. If the cops bust one of our events every body just scatters. No taunting the cops no standing by the drag section
Definitely different in the uk its mostly done at night in quiet areas where inocent members of the public are not likely to get hurt and anyone who does get hurt are idiot spectators standing too close. And also isn't as common in uk in general either it's usually street drifting round a roundabout more than actual street racing
In the Las Vegas valley even the school police take part in speeding stings. They post up on Facebook all the time although they cartoon out the cars and do a great job trolling the person /lol.
I am 31 year old, and my view on todays world is: the more advanced technology is, the stupider people are getting... Especially today's teens and younger generation. All they care is likes, followers, ''coolnes'', but showing general knowledge and common sense is not on the list.... Makes me wonder where did the world gone wrong? Was it in 1990 when internet was officialy released, or was it in 2004 when Facebook and other social network slowly starting to come into existence, or in 2007 when first iPhone was invented and everybody followed suit into the world we know today???
I'm older than you, though not by much, and honestly, stupid has always been a thing - it's just more visible now than ever before. People see it, hear it, read it more, because media isn't so confined to specific publishers, or to specific geographical regions.
@@Kev27RS Correct, not until 1993 did it go public domain. I'm one of the first public netizens, was in the first UK public trial of internet provided by set-top TV boxes (1993/1994?), had one of the first home internet setups in the UK. The internet didn't make people stupid, it just made everyone more aware of global stupidity.
Take overs are about the dumbest thing I have ever seen and I’m all for sketchy shit. I also think it’s messed up if you drive a modded car and you just so happen to be driving by not taking part of the stupidity you could be arrested.
That's police fault not takeovers, you have rights! And you have the right to be free when your innocent your car shoudn't be a way to discriminate you. You can like modded cars and be a boring driver
I would gladly go to the track if it didn't cost a bunch of money, the was a track that way always easy to get to, and I didn't feel like I need a trailer and truck (more $$$) in case my car breaks at the track.
12:06 About that. Apparently people on TikTok want him released from prison. Why? They think he's too cute for jail. The fact that some losers are actually simping for a street racer who killed two people is insane.
What about C'était un Rendez vous 1976? That was the first real driving video, long before Dado and Rob were making DVDs of people driving like a maniac on open public roads.
@@Pwrsongs I was going to sleep listening to GIS 2 twenty years ago, but Rendezvous was the first video of that kind. Respect your elders, even when they are slow and sloppy by today's standards.
