Of all the majors for a university to push, Marketing seems like the most antithetic to the long history of the academy. How many social ills have been caused since the beginning of the 20th century by Marketing, specifically the rise of narcissism as directing the ebb and flow of our lives?
I thought I'd do a marketing degree for a long time and have my bachelor's thesis be about how to make it more sustainable and less...well any bad side effect capitalism creates. But I'm most likely going to do a Social Work degree and simply add a post-grad certificate or an MBA in International Marketing on top of that in the future.

Those with the most freedom units (dollars), get to buy whatever rules we have to live by. Hopefully a day comes where we have no billionaires.

I have a marketing degree and I chose marketing because I wanted to do psychology in a business environment (consumer behavior). Marketing is a very fun education and makes choosing your first job exciting as it has many opportunities that you can cater to match your strengths.
It'll be interesting to see what the future holds. With the direction of AI, marketing may be one of the many jobs that is eliminated in the future. But so will a lot of jobs so who knows?
I think as we watch what's happening with AI, this is a good question. What jobs will be taken over and why? There's a lot about marketing that I personally don't see AI taking over, but I could very well be wrong. The elements I'm thinking that will be tough for AI to do will be not just reading and understanding data, but also knowing how to pivot as it relates to the product you're marketing.
AI can never replace marketing! Because marketing is all about understanding consumer behavior, predicting buying patterns using intense psychological research and this can't by done by AI.
