Singapore has the means to negotiate a deal a year ago - well planned and executed. Well done to its government and huge congratulations to the people.

This Thai PM was actually appointed in August 2023 whereas Singapore had already signed the so-called exclusive agreement in May 2023 - well before his time! He also uttered randomly that Singapore has granted US$2m-3m per show to win the contract (that is still not verified to date). Supposedly if the grant is true, so what? This is a competitive world and no one owes you a living. Willing buyer willing seller! As for the Philippines official, suggest he wakes up and grows up. Be proactive in looking for business /investments globally and do good things for your own people, instead of whining when you lost. Just because you have no foresight and are unable to compete, you start blaming others for being efficient and visionary?

So based on this theory of "stealing" the deal, Singapore would have been "stealing" every South-east Asia opportunity for many years by inviting Petrol Chemical plants, Global banks and Financial institutions, MNC manufacturing, and Retail chains to headquarters in Singapore. Just because our neighbours have incompetence planning and ministry execution, does that mean we have to lower our standard to be considered "neighbourly" ? Making such complains are like asking your competitors to slow down just because you cannot keep up the pace instead of training harder.

It's smart business acumen by both parties. Any proposal can be accepted or rejected. If the deal makes sense, then fair play to all. And Singapore is indeed the best option among all the choices.

There isn't a need to force when Singapore is located ideally with good infrastructure and efficient transport system to host big events. Not to mention the safety and stability of the country. Anyone would have their first choice in Singapore as compared to its neighbours.

Force ? Her management team - chose it for as it is the best location & money. South East Asia - here lot of countries - Taylor Swift only can perform that much show. It is best for her and her team to choose just one location, which reduce logistic, practise and cost. Of course then the best location and best money come into play. The "source" of this story about an exclusivity clause is the Thai PM. Who claimed that he got the news from AEG, Swift's promoter. I suspect there was something lost in translation. Do the math. Forbes has estimated that Swift will personally earn US$10m - US$13m PER SHOW. If the Eras tour goes to Bangkok or Manila, and does 3 shows at each location, Swift would be on track to make about $30m at each venue (using Forbes low estimate). So assuming the plan originally was to tour in two other cities for 3 nights each, Swift would have made US$60 million. But Singapore came along, and offered her US$3 (or $4m. or $5m) for an exclusivity agreement, and Swift or her business manager snatched the offer as soon as Singapore made it? What sort of brilliant managers does she have? Since when is getting $4m to forego $60m a GOOD DEAL? IMHO, this "exclusivity clause" is a fiction. There was NO exclusivity clause. If Singapore wanted Swift exclusively, it would NOT have cost just $4m. or even $24m (6 shows in SG X $4m according to the Thai PM's unverified and unsubstantiated info). Team Taylor would have told Singapore, "We are planning to go to 3 cities/4 cities/5 cities in SE Asia, and you will need to compensate us for NOT going to those cities at $10m per show." And maybe Team Singapore would bargain it down to $7m or $6m per show. And for 3 cities, at 3 shows at each city, the "compensation" would be $54m (9 shows X $6m). Or $90m for 5 cities. No. I suspect Eras Tour was going to completely bypass SE Asia. They had NO PLANS to play in ANY city in SE Asia. Why? That's for Swift's people to answer. Then Singapore, using the post-covid "Tourism revival fund" that PM Lee mentioned in his answer, gave a grant ($3m? $4m?) for Swift to bring the Eras Tour to Singapore. But Singapore brought more than just money to the table and offered a complete package of administrative, promotional, marketing and logistic support. They also pointed out that Singapore had the infrastructure to support a tour like Eras without traffic gridlock (like in Manila, Jakarta, and Bangkok). They made it EASY for Eras to come to Singapore. And in the words of the Singapore Teamj, "they offered to deliver Asia to Taylor Swift". And maybe, when the Thai PM asked the promoter to bring the Eras Tour to Thailand, AEG tried to explain how Team Singapore had approached them even before the tour started, and before they announced the cities they were touring in, and offered logistical and administrative support, and also $4m, and that Eras had no plans to tour in other SE Asian city. And maybe the Thai PM could speak English, or maybe there was a translator, and somehow, the easiest bit got translated - Singapore offered money, Eras won't tour other SE Asian cities - and the Thai PM put two data points together, and came up with the idea that SG signed an exclusive deal with Swift. Who knows? In the video, PM Lee says that we cannot force Swift to perform in other cities as a condition of performing in Singapore, or dictate where else she might perform. Which suggests that Singapore negotiated for her to come to Singapore, and only Singapore, because we have no right to make arrangements for other cities. In another video (link below), PM Lee hints, "if we had not made such an arrangement, would she have come to someplace else in SE Asia? Maybe. Maybe not." Which hints that Eras had originally planned to skip SE Asia, or had no firm plans to tour in SE Asia. She simply chosen the best place to conduct her business. Philippines on the other hand was complacent and did not do their homework before and let Singapore secured the deal. In order to cover their incompetence the easiest way is to complain that Singapore did something unfriendly to their neighbours. Let's face it. My question is, if it were Philippines who secured the deal, do you think Joey Salceda care about being unfriendly to his neighbours? Singapore simply set a new standard. There is nothing to stop Philippines to bring in better stars and better shows to their shores.

Nothing wrong with this , the neighboring countries should have started asking for their own deals earlier in advance. As the smallest island country within S.E Asia, SG had always been doing things in advance and provisioning ahead by tens of years to plan and develop. Tourism rejuvenation is what many countries are doing now. Note Thailand is also trying to woo the Chinese tourists back.. being the first among the countries to grant "visa free" and health insurance to foreign tourists, especially Chinese ones.

Perhaps the word "forced" is not quite correct in this case of a heavy weight star such as Taylor Swift. Perhaps "attracted to choose" is more correct. 0:10 A concert performance in a nation's largest venue should not be referred to as a "pit stop". Seriously, go look up the meaning and you'll see how wrong that term is when used here. Now if Taylor Swift was coming to Singapore solely for a vacation or break from the tour it might be appropriate to call that a pit stop but a series of multi-million dollar concerts is definitely not.

Malaysia , Brunei and Indonesia won't be high on Swift's list. The Islamic Muslim environment would have forced Swift to change at least her costumes as well as her music. I do agree Singapore has excellent infrastructure to provide that concert. But it was totally wrong if other country can't provide what Singapore do. Jakarta has a great festival experience.
