Something that probably should have been mentioned in the video is the brilliant way the show subverts expectations. Every time it feels like it's going to force a stupid conflict, the characters handle it like mature adults and move on, which is incredibly refreshing.

My heart was destroyed when expectation of Rebecca lashing out when Rupert is terrible, was not what happened in episode 9 of season 1. Like, the whole season they set up that when Rupert does something shit, she fucks over the team. But nope. Worst thing happens and "I'm a fucking bitch". AND THEN, Ted. DOESN'T DO the frustrating, drawn out drama and is just a human being. My soul is healed.
@Sugarman96

I loved that when Rebecca came clean to Ted about everything, instead of Ted yelling, fighting or getting angry at her, he straight up forgave her, showed sympathy and moved on. It shows how smart the writers are, because Rebecca made her motivation clear in the first episode and has lied to Ted throughout the season, so the cliche development of the scene would have been understandable.

What makes Ted endearing is not that he is just a kind person. But that he ACTIVELY tries to be kind and CHOOSES to not be judgmental even when he knows other people are looking down at him.

I remember when people’s only complain was that Ted was just a character who was annoyingly positive for no reason. But they absolutely murdered that complaint in the funeral episode. The reason for his positivity towards others is something that people can learn from.
@Sugarman96

I actually thought his panic attack in the first season was sufficient in killing that complaints about Ted, it showed his struggle with anxiety and fear of loneliness that we saw fleshed out in the second season.

I love that his positivity is an actual "choice", not something that comes naturally, but an ideal he tried desperately to keep up. It takes crazy dedication to be nice, and I'm glad the show respects that.

Sudeikis is so good as Ted, that I forget i’m watching an actor when i’m watching Ted Lasso. There are times that I have to remind myself that Ted isn’t real lmao, he just seemingly transforms into Ted despite so little change actually done to his physical appearance and it’s incredible.

my favorite thing about ted lasso, and what impressed me the most first watching it is how the show handled michelle and ted's divorce. you go into the show thinking that it's just going to be some goofy dude changing the minds of cynical people, and to that end, it would have been so easy to write as michelle as a straight-up villain like rupert. they could have easily gotten smug and self-satisfied with ted's optimism, but instead the show shows you that it actually does have negative consequences on his life. even without knowing that ted's optimistic persona is a trauma-coping mechanism, it can and does feel emotionally invalidating at times. and people like michelle and beard, etc. aren't made into antagonists for pointing this out. the show does ultimately side with ted where his optimism and curiosity are concerned, but it doesn't just tell the audience that we should be more positive. it writes to both sides of the argument and then *shows us why* ted's point of view is worth seeing. that and it's also just really heartwarming and really funny. i'm not much of a sitcom person but i decided to give the show a try because so many people were talking about it. and by the end of episode two (the baking reveal), i was hooked.

It's the first show I've watched in quite some time where I've actually smiled. Like a, big, fat, ear to ear smile. It's helping me a lot right now and it's so nice to have a feel good, comfort show to turn to for some quick joy in a world so chaotic right now.

When I first heard of Ted Lasso I made a snap judgement that a show with such a asinine premise would not be worth my time, I believe I was in good company. But towards the end of the first run, I stumbled upon more than a few intriguing reviews and decided to be curious. Well, I was reeled in, hook, line and sinker. From what I’ve read, mine is a rather common story. I’ve watched a fair share of TV drama and comedy over my 62 years and I’ve enjoyed most of it as well crafted entertainment but with an appropriate detachment, it’s just fiction after all. It’s a truly rare event when I have concerns about the fate of fictitious characters to the extent of feeling trepidation before each new installment. And that’s nothing compared to the elation I experience when good things happen to them and the sadness when they’re down. But I’m comforted in knowing I’m not alone in being sad. I’ve loved every episode and had my share of goose bumps, lump in the throat and many tears. A certain amount of suspension of disbelief was required but that’s ok. It is possible that the present circumstances have made me more receptive to such a show, I don’t know. Regardless, I’m grateful for it’s existence. Nonetheless, I can’t help but try to understand why Ted Lasso has had such a unusual impact on myself as well as on many others. My take is that, while Seinfeld was the show about nothing, Ted Lasso is the show about everything. More to the point, it’s about life. AFC Richmond, the stadiums, the games are just background, the canvas on which the lives of the characters unfold. There is no plot, the team wll be ok. It’s about the multiple stories that crisscross one another and that we observe and get captivated and enthralled by. Lives very much like ours. Of course most of us don’t have the material comfort of those individuals but, except for Rebecca, their position is precarious. So they, as we, must navigate life without a clear roadmap. In the last episode Ted said it so well, life is about making choices. We do our best, we try, we stumble, we make mistakes, we learn, we take the good, we accept the bad, we correct, we fix, we make amends, we keep going and, hopefully, we become the better versions of ourselves. Onward, Forward. This show is not plot driven but it is message driven. It seeks to show the way but is not about the destination it’s about the journey. Each generation as an impact on the next and it’s a responsability to be taken with earnestness. Dereliction of duty can have long lasting effect. But there’s, most of all, a message of hope. Wounds can be healed, what is stuck can be freed,the lost can find the right path with a little help from our friends. It’s about how loving, caring, trusting can clear the path forward. It’s about honesty with others but mostly with ourselves. It’s about the courage to show ourselves, warts and all, without a mask of fierceness, of meekness or of happyness. It’s about the value of friendship and the strenght of solidarity. This unrelenting optimism, at once Ted’s stenght and weekness, is the reason the show is comedy and not drama. Ultimately, everything is funny and for the same reason that there are few fates worst than being sad and alone the best laughs are the ones shared with the most. I look forward to the rest of the journey. To the creators of the show and to the extremely talented cast and crew I can only say, job well done and thank you. There’s this Doctor Who quote that I like a lot and that appropriately summarizes Ted Lasso. « Hate is always foolish and love is always wise. Always try to be nice but never fail to be kind. Laugh hard. Run fast. Be kind » Believe!

This show brought me to tears many times because of how beautiful the human moments are. The show sometimes build up an "Oh nooo" moment, only to end up by subtly subverting our expectations. So while Season 3 gets me nervous because of how much I'm invested in these characters, I also trust that the writers will lead the stories to an authentic and healt melting path.

dood! Keeley is cute comic relief? C'mon. even the show's everyone says Keeley is not only the glue of the entire show, but she is the most moral character that steers those who've gone array. when it comes to the overall effects, she has more of an effect of the ppl on the show than Nate does. she is Rebecca's best friend, Jamie's ex who supports him, Roy's current girlfriend, Ted's friend who's as amorphous as he is, outside of Beard. she has had direct impact on Rebecca, Roy and Jamie becoming better humans, in v distinct scenes and episodes. AND Juno Temple is hilarious as hell.

It’s not overtly political, but there were some politically charged jokes that I loved. At one point the Diamond Dogs are talking about what their name should be and Higgens suggest “Proud Boys” and then Nathan throws up at the notion (due to his hangover, but it’s a joke at the expensive of the alt-right group the Proud Boys) And then in season 2s opener Ted said something about people not looking that disappointed to see him since he wore a “red hat” to a planned parenthood fundraiser or something of the sort, which is a poke at the MAGA people and their antagonisms with planned parenthood. Very good and funny stuff and well placed, subtle jokes. Love this show and very good video.

I saw a guy online claiming it was completely apolitical, coming from the MAGA perspective that this was refreshing since hollywood is filled with hypocritical leftists running everything, and I had to laugh, because I had picked up on some very obvious political statements. So I rewatched and made a list. This is not complete: 1) In episode one only moments in Rebecca has to tell her chauvinistic douchebag coach to ask his daughters what casual misogyny means. 2) "If god had wanted games to end in a tie SHE wouldn't have invented number..." S01E10 3) When the Diamond Dogs are first looking for a name, a few get thrown out and rejected, and when Higgins suggest THE PROUD BOYS, Nate literally vomits into a bucket. S01E08 4) I haven't seen anyone that disappointed to see me since I wore a red baseball cap to a planned Parenthood fundraiser. S02E01 5) Sam shows his lack of enthusiasm toward the US military and imperialism when Ted gives him a toy soldier on his birthday. S02E01 6) After the Cerithium Oil protest when Ted is speaking to the press he purposely and consciously points to his face telling the media when you're like him (white) the media is happy to cover stories, but when you look like Sam, not so much. If this isn't a white privilege/black lives matter message, I don't know what is. S02E03 7) Ted likes meeting people parents because it's explain why people are crazy. He asks Beard how his mom is doing. She full-on Qanon. S02E06 8) Ted Marvels at the NHS and not having to pay when he goes to the hospital to pick up Doc Sharon S02E08 9) Ted openly mocks Trickle Down Economics. S02E11

@agdgdgwngo
@agdgdgwngo 2 года назад
I have really quite enjoyed Ted Lasso. Being the sort of person I am, and the kind of media I consume I expected to hate the show's unbrideled positiviity, can it's actually really good. I dunno if it's because I'm to darker more cynical things, and its nice to have a change or what. The humour is really quick and witty, I think nearly all of the characters are well written and have their charms and drawbacks like real people. Love the Premier league as the topic and the whole sort of team building Ted does. Immediately I love Ted, Keeley Roy Kent, Nate, Jamie, Sam.. the list goes on, great characters. BUT. Despite all of that this show has a few things that really grind my gears. First, it's so corporate. It's probably the most commercial show I have ever seen, it has the most ridiculously obvious product placement. I find that quite egregious, I know its Apple so it's to be expected but honestly for fucks sake you're spoiling the show with it sometimes. Secondly the show is incredibly preachy and moralistic, which fair enough, is unusual enough to me that I'll put up with it. But it's so obvious that there's a moral to every story it kinda feels a little patronising, like a childrens show or something. I think if you are going to do that, you need a find a neat way of doing it subtly, this show in its messaging ranges from obvious to akin to being hit over the head with shovel. It's easier to persuade someone if its not obvious you're trying to persuade them.

Haven't seen this show but it reminds me of the Office a bit. A lot of unique and funny characters.
