I've owned lots of cruisers, like yourself. Ridden plenty more. Indians, Harley's, Honda's, Suzuki's, Kawasakis. The 750 shadow is the absolute epitome of a cruiser I think. Something about it, it's just right.

@Balkan Boy the shadow can handle like the dirtbike of cruisers. Easiest handling in the city but crusier look.
@FuelHauler48
@FuelHauler48 5 лет назад
@Balkan Boy plenty of torque and easy for city driving. 4th gear at 50 mph is the sweet spot on this bike but with me 6foot1 210 it tops out at 102. Wet weight is 540ish but has plenty of lean angle before scraping peg and the models with the smaller front tire have easier slow speed maneuverability. My bike has the 21 but can drag a little rear brake and help at low speeds.

@Nightingale The funniest part about people who are dropping like 30grand on their 30grand motorcycles like that is that the v-rod i paid 5000 for would smoke them lol, or some guy on his stock ninja 650. Motorcycles were never about speed in the first place, imo (not cruisers, that is). At least not for me. I like bikes I feel good on, and after all the bikes I've ridden, a Shadow 750 is still my favorite. It's light and easy, will last forever, very modifiable, can eat highway miles and basically uses no gas at all and you can get a brand new one for less than 8000 bucks lol.

I know this is old video, but was very helpful in confirming my decision on this bike. Grew up on bikes, road one everywhere, day or night, nice or raining weather. Had a bad accident that pit me in crutches for almost 2 years. 20 + years later went to get back on. Did not want to be "wanting" more, but do not want a tank either. The shadow seemed to fit my wants, (no more sport bikes too) never really been a cruiser guy so was unsure if a 750 cruiser. 750 sport bikes had good power to size but no experience with cruisers in this size. And always been a Honda fan, though have owned all four Japanese makes. Hey, I'm half Japanese, what can I say. But am all American beef. Though I have given the Harley sport 750 a look, and suzuki boulevard c50, but shadow I think wins out. Thank you much. I did buy a couple dirt bikes when I healed, so I have been on bikes since, did have a gs500 but was too small. But now its 20+ years later still want more then a 500 but not to much either.

I totally agree. I just sold my Honda Shadow Ace 750 and upgraded to a VTX 1800 C. I rode the shadow for 4 years and loved it. I must admit though after a while it does start to feel underpowered. The best mod I did to my shadow is switch down to a 38 tooth sprocket and did the four degree mod. The problem with the shadow is that after about 5500 RPMs the Power Band drops Like a Stone. I used to have trouble keeping up with my buddies who mostly ride 1500s. After I got my VTX my body's only see my tail lights haha

I used to have a 98 750 ACE. Absolutely loved the bike. And even though they have plenty of power for their intended purpose, the older chain drive twin carb models have plenty of room for more power. With modding the intake, a free flowing exhaust, rejetting the carbs, and a dyna 3000 ignition, I had boosted power to where I the bike would be pulling hard all the way to where I was bouncing off the new rev limit (7k) at 127 mph. I wish I had kept her, and spent some coin on new cams and higher compression pistons. Awesome bikes! I love them.

The irony is that "little" 750 Shadow might have comparable power to weight to a lot of the twin cam Harleys given how much lighter it is. Also a great sounding motor, those 750 Shadows are great bikes, plenty of power but manageable enough for a new rider and absolutely rock solid reliable and cheap to maintain.

Oil and filter changes, final drive oil changes, 4 sets of tires, and one headlight bulb: that is the extent of repairs and maintenance on this bike at this point. It happens to be for sale, because I switched to a Honda CTX700 with fairing. Now I'm curious how that CTX will fare in the next couple of years. I don't think it will beat the Shadow. Hello family ! I am 53, a 20 year re-entry rider after owning over half a dozen street bikes all inspired by MAD MAX, and Honda Interceptors. I was in my 20's then, and now in my 50's I have arthritis in my left knee. It's bone on bone and I was dreaming of owning a Vulcan 900, but it was too big for me at a stop light. The Honda Shadow Spirit 750 is low. I am 6' tall and it feels SO comfortable. I just bought one YESTERDAY ! Yes ! Yesterday for the first time in over 20 years. I got as far as my driveway and chickened out. I need a riding partner for my re-maiden voyage. I feel so much conflict, yet it felt SO natural. I'm just afraid of stop lights, although the previous owners had the entire church pray for me.

My first road bike was a Kawa 90. I put 5000 miles on it in one summer, mainly highway. Done tons of long-distance cruising on a Yami Maxim 400, and rode across Canada on a Virago 750. You DEFINITELY don't need 1100 cc's to cruise! But I like the lower RPM of the Shadow at highway speeds (the Virago was turning 4500 or so at 100 km/h). Might be my next bike (and another cruise across Canada!)

Last summer I followed (on my Spirit 1100) a friend on her 750 Aero for about 200 miles and she was doing 80-85 mph all the way.

I've sat on this bike (2017 model) and the Vulcan 900 custom. Both are super comfortable. I'm 6'6" and go between 215 and 225. Being that you're a taller rider, which would you go with as a new rider?

I fixed up a like new condition 02 Honda Shadow VT750. Rebuilt the carb cuz it sat for two years. Owner couldn't fix it. Figured out what was wrong and $400 later I have what looks like a new bike. Of course I rep laced the tires and some other bits to be on the safe side but mostly just took a carb rebuild and only that was the jets and some float needles. Runs perfect. It sounds way meatier that the one in your video. Perhaps they did something to the exhaust or may yours is fuel injected. Not sure. But I get a good amount of power for passing and easily hit it's speed limit of 100mph. They are good, fun entry bikes and easy to manage. You can modify them a bit for storage or whatever. Super easy to work on.

Chris B Chain Drive? Perhaps you have a Shadow ACE. That bikes is similar to the Aero, but better in differences in my opinion.
@MicJaguar
@MicJaguar 6 лет назад
Its chain driven but the VIN number and parts all match the 2002 Shadow spirit VT750DC. However there are so many slight variations i guess it doesn't matter too much for 80% of the parts. I also suspect the baffles were removed by previous owner as you can look straight down the pipes and see the weird coily stuff on the sides.

I have a 2002 Honda Shadow spirit. It has 80,000 miles. Only expense is tires, oil changes and air filter. I redline it all the time. It has been rejetted and is pretty quick. They are tough motorcycles . The only thing I recommend is a Ragina racing chain and sprockets....

I have 1998 VT750 ACE, back then they were still chain drive, only the 1100 had shaft, five speed transmission, and they had mechanical lifters so you had to adjust the valve clearance every couple thousand miles. It carried me and my late wife no problem, and we were not exactly svelte, lol. Between the two of us we were pretty much at the recommended max capacity. Hasn't left the shed since I got the road king. One of the things I miss most is the speedometer was on the bars, much easier to see. Going to get it running again and give it to my son for his first street bike.

I have a 2009 Aero...except mine's black with snakeskin flames on it...2009 was the only year Honda offered that paint job, & only on the Aero...& it's a rare bird too...I've toured it through 10 different states & have yet to see another one like it in person...seen a few pics of others online, but not many even then...never could get an exact production number, as Honda only keeps up with the number of bikes produced, but not the numbers for specific paint schemes...I'm currently murdering it out...looking sweet...🖖🏿😎👍🏿

Wow, I just found this video. You ask how can a motorcycle help in Houston, TX? I had to give up my bike in 2017 because of my wife's illness. She subsequently passed in August 2017, and then we had the Hurricane/Tropical Storm Harvey about a month later. I'm still getting back on my feet and will be OK, but I miss riding a motorcycle. If I had a motorcycle right now, it would help in ways you can't begin to imagine.

You really need something smaller than a 750 to learn on. My first was a 100 Suzuki next was a 400. Next was a 1100 Yamaha which was too top heavy for me. Next a 750 magma that was perfect. Now I have a 750 Honda shadow spirit

Had my 2003 vt750 DC spirit for a while. I'd recommend it. Getting it back up and running now after sitting because of a new baby. Question for the shadow experts out there. The stock front tire is 110 80 19. Hard to find locally. Would a 110 90 19 fit this beast? Thanks in advance

Lol. The windshield is a good option especially in Texas hillcountry. Your going 85mph and a grasshopper or a giant cockroach hits you, your going to feel it. Especially if its in the throat. If you get the right type of windshield and test it out and angle it right to limit the buffing, you shouldn't get that problem. Plus 90% less bug protein in your face and helmet. My head sticks up too but if its a bug day, i hunker down a bit to eliminate that on my VT750DC.

I've got bad back, needing surgery. I've had 2 knee surgeries, will need 2 total knee replacements possibly later this year. I've had 14 bikes, everything from sport bikes to full dressers. I've gotta say for me, at this stage in life and with my issues, the 750 shadow is a great fit, still. Had an '02 with mini apes on it, cobra long shots, jet kit and that bike was a beast! Yea, I would like a bigger bike 1100-1300 cc preferably but really, daily driving and the occasional carrying a passenger where I live, this bike just works.

I’m going to be buying the Honda Shadow Aero as my first bike. I really liked the Rebel 500 for my first bike but later found out it gets very close to red lining at interstate speeds (70-80MPH). The Honda Shadow does not do that! After I ride on the 750 Honda for a few years, I like the Suzuki Boulevard M109R but will loo at the Rebel 1100 as well. But I might just get another Honda Shadow Aero, it’s a great bike!
