That’s one of the things that makes the Umbaran campaign in The Clone Wars so much more edgy…those weren’t merely mindless droids the clones were fighting, they were living beings defending their home planet doing what they believed was right. Combined with General Krell’s treachery, the Umbaran campaign is arguably the best arc in TCW. It certainly deserves consideration as it has so many elements to it including fog of war, honor, sacrifice, betrayal, friendly fire, strategy and ingenuity.
I hope he talks more about how Ventress is much more adept in the Light Side now. As we’ve seen from Rebels, the ability to connect with large predatory animals like that monster that attacked her is no small feat. Ventress, as much as she wants to hide it, has grown much gentler since we last saw her. She’s become a Grey Jedi like Ahsoka, and I think that’s really cool!
And that wasn't just some random ARC Trooper Asajj killed. That was Commander Colt, leader of the Rancor Battalion, one of the most well-respected units of the GAR in the early days of the war. Colt even personally oversaw the training of many clone units. He was almost like Commander Cody and Captain Rex... before Commander Cody and Captain Rex (really came into their own, anyway). And he dies, not in a heroic last stand (not quite anyway), but is murdered and humiliated by Asajj. That almost certainly was horrifying to a lot of clones, especially those who had fought with and/or trained under Colt. I imagine that while Asajj was well-known and feared before this, after the death of Colt, she became utterly despised by the men of the GAR.
I really like where they went with this story...she was REALLY trying to change after Dooku ordered her killed, and even went so far as to spend time trying to help Ahsoka after the false accusations... One of her greatest rivals and enemies until that point. I think she was just finally showing her true uncorrupted self at that point...breaking free of the Sith.
Ventress showing up and testing Omega was fantastic. She's definitely one of my favorite characters from The Clone Wars. She originated from a rejected design when creating a villain for The Phantom Menace and has honestly become a more layered character. Maul still craves power while Venteess is just seeking control over her own life. She also seems to know that the Emperor is Sidious, so is aware how dangerous the New Order actually is.
Her eyes have changed. They look kinder than they did previously. She seems to have a golden heart encased in stone. I have a feeling that Omega will chip away at that stone to find the true heart of Asajj. She is one of my favorite characters in the Star Wars universe. Thanks for sharing Alan. Hope all is well! God Bless!
To be fair, she stood toe to toe with Anakin and Obi-Wan. She is probably one of the most well rounded force users, trained by Jedi, Sith and Nightsisters.
@@jiffypoo5029 very true I forgot to mention that And a lot of times it was a 2v1 and she still held her ground. Definitely one of the top 5 duelist in Star Wars even before order 66.
She is actually attractive now. Both Physically and Personally. Her new levels of compassion and concern as well has letting her hair grow out and actually gaining a little weight, she filled out quite nicely.
Seeing her like this is refreshing when you know more about her past then just, she an assassin for dooku, knowing she spent nearly 20 years being trained by a Jedi who was killed by pirates, after finding her as an orphan, she was always losing the people she loved most and then dooku found her, betrayed her, etc, she really has such a tragic story and she has a very good chance at something like redemption
Asajj was laid to rest in the pools of Dathomir and embraced by the Magick of Nightsister spirits. Spirits of Powerful Nightsisters resurrected their champion in the pools of Dathomir, resurrection is kind of their thing.
As a character in the Star Wars Universe, I think she's a very interesting character. Or was. TBD after her resurrection... But I'm 100% certain if I was actually IN the Star Wars Universe and met her, I'd not come near her with a 50-foot pole. She's murderous, a little unhinged, angry, unpredictable, severe, vengeful, and aggressive. Those characteristics make for a GREAT character, but in real life, you would not have anything to do with someone like that unless forced to do so. Everyone in Star Wars has choices to make, and a lot of them come with really awful backstories, and most of them make good choices, good decisions, and try to be better. Asajj made a lot of very, very bad choices, for a very, very long time. Her shift to being a better person really hasn't been that long. But I'm completely on board for her continuing down a better path. I'm just saying...*stares intently at Ventress*... "I'm watching you."
The clone Ventress kissed was not a captain but was 1 of 4 commanders of Rancor battalion which was more of spec ops and were mostly made of ARF and ARC troopers, his name Colt.
As horrendous as the actions were from Ventress, she was right: There was no “right side” in this conflict. Both parties had politicians and groups of freedom loving people, as well as cruel, vile and manipulative groups. By time of order sixty- six, it was too late for either faction to realize the true rouse.
2003 Ventress: A clone killer 2008 Ventress: Still a clone killer but also a manipulater of the clones 2024 Ventress: Has hair, drawn more to the light side and is more nicer to the clones but still is a clone killer if you get on her bad side 😂
Asajj was one of the very best characters from TCW, with the best arc between them all. I loved when she helped Ahsoka and after, when she talked to Anakin, helping him to clear Ahsoka's name. But... She should've stayed dead. I don't like when they bring back characters like that... But since she already did... I'd love to see her dealing with her dark tendencies.
Oh, yeah. We all remember that moment when Grievous catches some poor sap (a shiny, no less) under one of his mechanical feet and just crushes the dude's head while Obi-Wan, Cody, and everyone else can only watch. That was brutal and probably inspired a lot of hatred from the clones.
Grievous was sadly underrepresented in the Clone Wars. But that’s also what you get when you only ever put him against people who actually have to survive.
@@occam7382 one shining moment when the 2008 Grievous is still pretty much a monster. I always think that General Grievous is always the same character, be it in Canon or in Legends.
In the 2003 clone wars I had no sympathy for ventress. In the bigger picture and learning more of her story. I now pity her, she's been betrayed, forgotten and hunted numerous times. She's done what she's had to do to survive though at times tries to atone to some extent.
Bad Batch: "I thought you were dead." Ventress: "My death was greatly exaggerated. So you're the punks i've heard about." Farts out green Nightsister mist Bad Batch: Visible fear
Place your bets on the explanation for her return: 1.Dathomir Witchery. 2. Tantiss clone escaped test subject. ( Why the vault has all the security now ) 3. Miracle Max "you see, your friend here is what we call mostly dead"
I honestly really enjoyed Ventress in this episode, I don't read the books and this fits in with what we saw of her in The Clone Wars. I also liked her own way of testing a potential force user which was different from what we have seen before
I dint like her at first becuase of the enjoyment she had over killing clone troppers😢,but as her character developed she actually grew on me.also is the dc17m just a blaster(like does it not have the configuration option?) And another question is the clone commando gauntlet blade not cannon as well or is it based of the different clone commando phases?.
Off-topic, but you should do a video about using space-based starfighters in-atmosphere. It always seems weird to me when TIEs or X-wings show up as air support. They have to transition from miles-per-second velocities in space to miles-per-hour, so much slower and inefficient!
What I wonder is how did Asajj outlive the porpoises? And why weren't they consulted prior to the filming of the Bad Batch? I mean space hunting and Quinlan Vos can be a little wonky sometimes, am I left?
hey don't want to be mean but can you plz not use thumbnails and titles that spoil the episode before i get a chance to watch them, today and yesterdays title and thumbnail spoiled the show before i even got a chance to watch the episode, I didn't know about ventress until yesterdays thumbnail popped up as i opened youtube, and this has been happening for a while now i don't know if i should just unsubscribe and block this channel until the show is over so as not to get spoiled even though i really enjoy watching this channel its very informative and nice to listen to while working but i don't want to be spoiled before i can sit down and enjoy starwars content
Honestly Ventress is kind of a role model. She has gone through so much and has so many excuses to just be broken.. she keeps going. And we actually see a glimmer of kindness from her too. Its beautiful.
she’s so cool. everything we saw from her this episode just makes me want more. still a bit iffy on her resurrection, but at least it’s handled better than other situations. if they want to keep it vague and up to the viewer’s interpretation, that’s fine by me.
I was too but then again omega told him that she never gave up on him. I think it was a sense a familiarity with her situation, that made him lend her a hand.
Yeah crosshairs seems to only actually listen to orders when it’s omega telling him like when she was teaching him how to meditate in a previous episode he listened to her then so when she said trust her so he chose to trust omegas instincts as it was her instincts that saved him and helped him
Ventress told the Bad Batch, “I may be many things, but I’m not you’re enemy.” I tend to believe her. She knows what kind of Uber-Evil Palpatine and his Empire is and I think she’s matured enough to form relationships and ally with those that also see the Empire for what it is.
Rex: Oh she's nothing. You should have seen General Skywalker in his prime. Us clones of the 501st kept a counter on the number of rotations since he last committed a war crime. We'd be lucky if we made it into double digits.
I had this exact thought during my watch. She committed some of the worst acts against clones specifically, starting all the way back in the original clone wars movie/pilot. You have to imagine that she’d have had a sizable reputation amongst clones. Great topic for a video!
IF commander wolffe shall her today he would proabbly have no problom executing her it seems after order 66 lot of the clones became fearless due to there inhibitor chips
its ironic both sith assasins died yet still survived order 66 but as one was able to move on from their past the other did not leading to mauls final death. while ventress is probably sitting pretty with quin on tanalor.
@@jiffypoo5029 hay i mean they need to repopulate somehow. plus now the night sisters dont live on a completly shit world like before. atleast theirs a bright side
Maybe she did actually die by the hands of duko, that line she said at the end “I have a few lives left” maybe the witches put some kind of resurrection spell on her
I love this character arc. I loved her as a bady and her new middle path. She’s a real kind of character that you find here and there through life. I’m sure there’s a lot of killing left. The Empire is just in the nascent phase of their wicked fascism. Transformation is our path through the horrible no matter what that means to you and that is always a personal story.
It doesn't even need to be a retcon. Quinlan laid her to rest in the pools of dathomir. No retcon needed just 1 line of dialog of a 20 second flashback of the spirits resurrecting her.
Did anyone else sense some, ahem...tension ,between Ventress and Crosshair. Would be kind of cool if she helps him to meditate with the force. I know there's the story line with Vos and her, but eh maybe.
Thanks Alan for reminding us of how bad she really was. If most people didn't start until the Seventh season of the Clone Wars when she was being betrayed. They might have felt more compassion for her. And seeing her be friend Ahsoka after she left the Jedi. This may folks see why they didn't trust her. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Honestly the bad batch is so nerfed, hunter and crosshair should have destroyed ventress hand to hand and they actually had nothing to fear but oh well, i don't like saying things like this but the way hunter was suddenly made more impulsive so omega and fix the problems really makes me think disney can't just show a female "lead" or important character getting beaten, esp if they are not getting a second round where they win ☠️
"...A *woman* could create such division, now that was troubling." -Sounds about right. 😉 j/k. It is unfortunate that the Bad Batch doesn't comprehend the significance of Ventress's lightsaber color, that of course being now yellow as opposed to the crimson red which occurs to lightsabers of all other colors (save the Dark Saber) when wielded for any significant amount of time by a dark-side force user. The yellow, as I've researched, is indicative of light-side force users who seek balance between combat and scholarly training/education. As well, I've also found some sources indicating that a yellow lightsaber is often wielded by force users who've turned away from the dark-side of the force and have made strong, positive efforts to operate within the spectrum of the light-side of the force. Pretty significant over all in telling of Ventress's character. Asajj Ventress and Crosshair share a very similar turning history: loyal to the Separatists/Empire until they were betrayed by those (relative) factions.
Ok let me so honest here i think ventress was the start of my i like women who can and will kill me like idk even at like 5 years old ik i wanted ventress to do things to me
She says she was pawned in the same war just like the Batch and that they all lost. While she was Dooku's, and by extension Palpatine's, unwitting puppet, she still freely and intentionally committed those war crimes and wasn't tricked or deceived into them.
