Why the Crucifix and not the empty cross?

Non-Catholics often ask why we Catholics have a Crucifix and not an empty cross. Why are they above the altars in our Churches, why do we wear them on chains around our necks, why are they found on the walls in our homes? To many this seems to be a fixation with the death of Christ, with no focus on His resurrection.

What kind of question is even that? He would be pleased that we remember and have faith in his life, death, and resurrection.

@memesouls8653 so he would be pleased that the depiction of him on the cross is nothing like what he actually looked like? The icons that depict him. It's definitely someone else. Not jesus. Yes jesus died on the cross but its not the man that's on every crucifix today. Just my opinion.

I have a legitimate question that I cannot find an answer ANYWHERE but contempt when I ask it. Why would Jesus a Jew, ask Peter a Jew, to build a church under the rule of the emperor Constantine a Roman? Anyone?

Yes. I would say this. God the Father sent his Son to us under a Roman emperor. God's omnipotent nature prevails when we look we see what's there at the moment.God sees everything. His will.

@@iggyantioch sorry I didn't word that correctly. Catholics say Jesus said he would build His Church on Peter, which He did not. So my question is, why would Jesus a jew, tell Peter a Jew, to start the Catholic church. Constantine a Roman Catholic started the Catholic religion, not Peter. Hence, it is called the Roman Catholic church, not the Jewish catholic church

Oh ok. I gotcha. It's a matter of historical record. Either believe. Or choose not to As a Catholic I believe ALL of IT. I would suggest reading or listening to the many articles and shows about the Catholic Church . As far as the name goes. Read Ignatius of Antioch for some info.

How can ewe have an empty tomb if ewe don't put Christ Jesus in that tomb? The problem IS "the church requires". Btw Saturday was and still is the Sabbath, until "the church required it to be Sunday"...

The inscription "INRI" on the Cross of Christ was the identity card of Jesus. Therefore, when Catholic Church has the complete replica of the Cross of Christ, the Crucifix, it means the Cross of Jesus of Nazareth not the cross of one of the thieves who had no identity card - an empty cross- no body, no card.
