Ok so The Iron Claw is a movie that seems to be getting overlooked at the awards but honestly it's one of my favourite films from last year. The film tells the story of a Wrestling Dynasty and what's arguably one of the industries most iconic families.
It tackles the highs and lows of being in the spotlight as well as the strain that it can have on your family. The Von Erichs deal with tragedy after tragedy and the movie centres heavily around the theme of loss. Whether it's the family members who pass away throughout or the achievements and accolades they miss out on, its rare that we see them actually get victories.
However in the end they do in many ways which makes the ending so powerful to watch.
you will not cry
Which....pffff dunno if I'll be able to manage that but throughout this video I wanna talk about the movie. Please hit the thumbs up if you enjoy it and don't forget to subscribe for videos like this every day. With that out the way, thank you for clicking this, now let's dive into The Iron Claw.
-
Now the movie's main driving force is Fritz Von Erich who join in his early wrestling Days. Fritz took on an evil German person and carved out a name for himself in the developing scene. In real life Fritz or rather...Jack Adkisson, he was someone who was driven by pride. After missing out on what he believed he was due he pushed his sons towards becoming wrestlers themselves.
Now Fritz is quite a complicated character and though he's painted out as the bad guy, I think it's more complex than that.

As a Texan who is from Dallas/ Fort Worth watching this allowed me to look back at my childhood. If you grew up in the 80s you saw these tragedies play out in real time. Even though these actors do not resemble the people they are playing physically they do capture that place and time.
@iamskippy
@iamskippy 4 месяца назад
What do you mean they don’t resemble them physically? Like do you think height / weight is off… ? Or that you think they should have cast people who looked more alike … even if they weren’t as physically gifted?
@MODERENBRUTES
@MODERENBRUTES 4 месяца назад
@@iamskippy Not in height or weight . The actor who portrayed Kerry Von Erich was the least like his muse. Kerry was 6’3 or 6’4 at least 250lbs. Mike Von Erich was the smallest of the 4 wrestling brothers in height and frame. In the movie he was the 2nd tallest. Kerry was arguably the most popular of the Von Erich family. And here he was larger than life. In that sense the movie dilutes this aspect.
@MODERENBRUTES

Mor important in the scene with Kevin's sons is you see the breaking of the curse. He says they shouldn't see him cry but his sons admonish him and say it's OK to cry that everyone does and they do all the time. this is in direct contrast with the way his father would have handled the situation. Then they tell him they will be his brothers so h edoesn't have to feel sad anymore in only the way a child can with pure innocence and love. He then gets up and plays football with his boys. Another thin you don't see Fritz do. He doesn't play with the boys he just trains them. Kevin ends the movie surrounded by love and family. In contrast Fritz and his wife are alone together in their house. living amongst ghosts and shadows.

Saying this movie was good just doesn’t feel like enough. I really thought I could handle watching it as someone who was born and raised in Texas, I grew up knowing all of this but halfway into this movie it felt like being strapped into a vehicle being driven off a cliff. At one point in the theater you could hear people gasping and crying because it felt relentlessly. The thing I was so impressed with was how perfectly the movie captured Emotional Parentification. Showing how the parents never emotional supported their children, so the children learned to emotionally supported each other and how Kevin took on carrying the emotional weight of being the parent. Framing the story through that lens was really such pure and honest storytelling, making it so relatable and everything that much more devastating. I honestly can say I recommend the movie but I can say I can’t remember the last time a movie made me cry until I thought I was gonna puke.

My mom died 6 months ago, my mother in law (who I was very very close to) died in November and my dad just died 3 weeks ago. I'm only In my early 30s . It's been so hard. Even as I type this my eyes are tearing up and I have a giant lump in my throat. I keep telling myself I will see them again one day and I genuinely believe that's true. I like to think that the curse was actually Fritz ingraining into his sons' minds that crying or showing emotions is a sign of weakness. This caused the brothers other than Kevin to become closed off and detached themselves from the world. When Kevin's sons told him that it's okay to cry and show emotions, he realized that in order to be a better father to his children, he has to be better than his own father, Fritz. He allows himself to be emotional and opened up to his kids, which is the complete opposite of how the Von Erich family kept each other at arm's reach in times of need.

Personally, I took Kerry joining his brothers was Kevin imagining the afterlife as a way to deal with the loss and getting to peace with it. I didn't know the directors vision yet while watching it. even if you lose the people you love, they will always be your family. him saying he is no longer a brother is wrong cause even if his brothers were all gone. you will always be their brother. it's a tragic story of the real family. but, it's also why people shouldn't push their kids to do this and that just because you didn't get to. but, every family is different on how they do things.

I just saw this movie and I must say it was very hard to watch. I think the family had to go through a great deal of tragedy, I don’t know If there was actually a curse, but I think the father made a huge impact in his son’s lives and not always in a good way. He pushed them all too hard to achieve success and his kids by trying to live up to his father’s dreams got lost in the way. There was a scene in which Eric (Zac Efron) tried talking to the mom and told her to try taking to the dad because he was too hard on one of his brothers, but she didn’t do anything. I think both the parents could have been more open to communication and understanding towards their kids and I am sure all of this tragedy would have not happen. But that’s just my opinion. Going back to the movie I think it was a very good movie, with very good performances, Zac Efron really shined in this one, and I must say the ending was heartbreaking but it was really worth the watch.

While I loved this film, I was very familiar with the tragic story of the Von Erichs. Thusly, I felt the film took very little chances and kind of wished a little humor was mixed with the joy in the afterlife scene. Kerry is LITERALLY holding his oldest brother in his arms. Would to have loved just a moment where he takes it all in: "this is a trip" or something similar being said. Just to break the seriousness to the audience a bit and let everyone enjoy the positive outlook

My mother’s mother had five children, and my mother is the only one left. I certainly understand what the story is about.

The wrestling business truly is tragic. Word has it that they are working on a film about the Guerreros. Chavo did a lot of the ring work for this movie and he’s been tapped for the Guerrero film

I get this is a wrestling movie, but anyone who has siblings can relate to how horrible it would be to lose them

I must have zoned out but i don't remember when the youngest brother died .. that scene when Jeremy went into the afterlife and met up with his brothers was great moment. Why do we call pushing your children to be better for selfish reasons, parenting? These type of parents may get a successful career for their children. But most have toxic self worth and or toxic relationships with other people…It’s one thing for a parent to support and guide a child with their passions. It’s another thing for a parent that pushes their desires onto their children..

To be honest, I believe the reason why it hasn’t been nominated or talked about for nominations is because somebody filed some work late for it to meet the deadlines to be in the Oscar run. Otherwise, Zac Efron would have definitely been nominated for best actor and probably would have one.

This movie doesn't hit as hard as " The Wrestler" but still it had a very deep message, never live your life to achieve someone else's dreams
