The holy grail of B Series Hondas is the Acura Integra Type R. With it's over 8000RPM redline, seam welded chassis, and incredible feedback for the driver - the prices of these JDM relics just keep going up. So how did the Integra Type R become a collector item rather than just a weekend racer? Today we go for a drive in an ultra rare white on white 3,000 mile Integra Type R that is flawless and all original. So let's rev out to VTEC and find out what the Type R is all about!

It's a vehicle I certainly want to own. Would like to see you cover Honda's 3.5 L J35Y2 V6 petrol engine that got discontinued in 2017. 278 hp (207 kW) at 6,200 rpm & 252 lb⋅ft (342 N⋅m) at 5,300 rpm. Curious what your take & stance is on it be it stock or one that is modified.

I called this 20 years ago when these cars came out. I said, "The Acura Integra will become the 1957 Chevy of the future". In the 90's, you couldn't get a '57 Chevy for less than $50K it seemed, they go for even more now. The ITR, is on a different level. I own both a GSR and ITR that are generally stock. The difference between the 2 cars is stark. The GSR is great, but the ITR is an experience you simply don't forget. In my view, it's one of the best cars Japan ever produced. I don't think we'll ever seen anything like it again, hence the reason they are so expensive now. Nice video BTW.
@himura357

Well, I have tried to buy one a few times but it never worked out. Either too many collisions or stripped and rebuilt. Just too rough. I wasn't looking for perfect, just decent. Now I am not willing to pay the current prices. Congrats on the ITR, you had to be in the right place at the right time to get one.

These things (and the GSRs) were a joy to drive when they were new. My buddy had a GSR in HS and it was awesome. Tons of fun Japanese cars in the 90s. In terms of price… let me put it this way - if you want a modern car that is naturally aspirated, revs to 9k and comes with a manual, your only choice is a 911 GT3. Cars like the type R, the S2000, and the E46m3 gives you some of the same feel and joy and similar driving experience at lower performance envelop and far lower cost. And that is why all of those cars I’ve mentioned have shot up in value

I just brought a JDM imported 1994 Honda Prelude Si from Pennsylvania back to my home state of Wisconsin recently and this video perfectly describes what driving a nearly stock Honda from their golden era is like. Everything from the engine noise, to the clean and surprisingly comfortable interior, his descriptions are spot on. Never would I have thought that I’d learn manual on a right hand drive Honda classic that I bought and own at 19 years old halfway across the country. This brought a smile to my face and my lude will continue to keep it there!

We had a couple younger guys in our club that had these Acura's and the Honda civics. I wish now that I had invested in some of the amazing cars coming from japan at the time. But, know one thought that they would make such a huge resurgence today. The coolest part is cruising now looks almost the same as it did back then because these are on the scene. I've got a 97 Integra LS that I've owned for over 10 years and have been building it the whole time. It's got a full 98 Spec JDM ITR swap that is completely stock other than the typical I/H/E tuned on an AEM V2 standalone and later revision OEM LMA's. It's had the engine for 6 years now and I haven't felt the need to modify it because it's just so incredibly fun in stock form, you REALLY don't need to modify this engine. I literally can't drive this car without smiling the whole time. Integra's are the way to pure nirvana. I love this car with all of my heart and I will never sell it.

I had the pleasure of owning a 1999 ITR DC2 here in Melbourne (Australia).... in which I clocked up 165,000 kms (from new) & enjoyed 13 track days, during my 5.5 years of driving nirvana. I was utterly addicted to the VTEC scream of the B18C engine, the wonderfully slick gearbox, dynamic handling & complete package of Honda engineering. Even 17 years on & after driving many higher spec cars, the memories of the DC2 remain as some of my best driving experiences ==> I would buy another one anytime!

I saw it Sunday and called dealer first thing that Monday morning. Put about 100k miles on it. Owned an 01 Integra special edition up until last November when I traded it in for a Mk7.5 GTI and I gotta say it’s crazy how a car 20 years old is just as fun as a modern day hot-hatch. As much as I wanted to keep the Integra it rusted out like Swiss cheese and things were starting to fail. I owned the car for 7 years and was the second owner of it. Had some really good times in that car. Nothing feels or sounds like it to this day even my GTI but it’s close enough. My Integra is the slowest "sports" car I've owned thus far. Even slower than some of my dailys. But it's probably the most fun I've had with a project car. And this is coming from someone who was never a fan of any Honda growing up.

same. 94 ls learned manual transmission.... than converted to gsr and later got rid of it for a 97 gsr....... i miss the 94 ls converted gsr. the wheel base is slightly different from 94 to 97 and i felt my 94 handled so much better.

Honda hasn't lost its way. Emissions standards and safety standards have brought a whole generation of automakers producing vehicles that are too complex with features people just don't need. Ya some features are nice but alot is un necessary and its this way across the board with every manufacturer.

Hahaha! Its called growing up. Have a stock 2000 DC2 GSR and its heavenly to drive it and hot VTEC every morning yo. I agree new car dashes are like hard plastic. Hondas of this vintage have a soft/ squishy dash and panels that is oh so pleasing to the hand and eye.

Honestly, I have not priced them lately. I have always been a fan and came so close to buying one. So regret that now. Anyway, they deserve appreciation. This is not just a GS-R with a hotter engine. They went through and seam-welded the body and made quite a few suspension improvements. And yes, that B-18 C5 is a glorious little piece of Honda engineering for the time.

I'd assume the lift on banning the import of JDM cars to the US may have had an effect on the prices going up. That's had quite a knock on effect on JDM car prices here in the UK too

As a dc2R owner & driver I thought I'd share this with peeple to see if its just mine or can other owners do this with their Integra Type R? Mine is stock - no mods MY'01. One day i was on RU-vid watching a dc2r review from I think it was - 'Chicago Cars Direct' when the guy mentioned that manual Hondas have a "friction point" as well as a "take-off point" in their clutch travel. So one day as i pulled away from a green light i did the following, 1) pushed clutch all the way down, 2) pulled 1st into 2nd gear, at about 4000rpm (no need to hit vtec or redline), 3) let the clutch out about 1/4 of the way, 4) tapped the throttle all the way down (very quickly) before releasing, 5) then let the clutch up to about 1/2 way, 6) pushed the throttle pedal all the way down this time and kept it down. I got an unbelievable rush of power that pushed me so hard into my recaro seats, it felt like they were gonna break. It was just an AMAZING rush of power i would say 10X more powerful than what u get from vtec. In fact compared to vtec, it makes vtec seem like nothing at all! I dont know if the engineers intended it to do this but i do know it works & its UNBELIEVABLE!!! Sadly, I've only managed to do it a handful of times (it's hard to do just right) Try this with your dc2R, & then tell me if u experience the same? If so, it's time to let the secret out guys!

As the former owner of a '94 Civic Si, I love that some folks have held onto their Integra Type-Rs....but man...some of the prices I've seen these being sold for. At the end of the day, it's a sub-200HP Honda. Can't believe they're $50k+ these days. Maybe I can just wait for the market bubble to burst and they'll drop down to the $10k range.
