They're the only Chapter that is technically 'Freed' with them worshipping Daemonic ascended Perturabo instead of any other Daemon or their Emperor. The one who stuck with Perturabo is loyal through and through.
Iron Warriors during the Siege Of Terra is that one team mate that have a low KDA but actually does the objective to win while the rest of his team gloats their high KDA.
I remember making an Iron Warrior lawbringer in For Honor. Literally had 4 kills the whole match while boosting a zone. Occasionally leaving to clear the minion lane. Made top purely from boosting an clearing while my team as befuddled how I had a higher score than them despite them throwing themselves at the enemy. Whilly nilly

The Iron Warriors have canonically lost to the Death Guard before. It was an attrition battle and Perturabo realized he was losing bc the Nurgle plagues were able to corrupt his machines because of the psychic component. He got so mad he just detonated a bunch of bombs when he retreated after dueling Mortarion

My favorite Traitor Legion! Iron within, Iron without! Efficient, brutal, logical, competent, badass. That's how I see the Iron Warriors. Perturabo brought them down by his hubris, but the Iron Warriors stood strong and withstood that thrashing, and came out far better as a result. I would love to see a logical Perturabo who understands that his troops are not pawns on a Regicide(40k version of Chess) but genuine men. With a mature Perturabo, I believe the Iron Warriors can be nigh on unstoppable to just about anyone, including Tyranids and Necrons. These guys are just that badass.
I would love refined Perty as a 40k villain. Arguably the best villain Star Wars ever had was Thrawn, and he was "just" a scarily competent officer applying common sense wherever he could and mentoring his subordinates to be as competent as possible. That was really all that was needed to completely own a galaxy full of superhuman space wizards, and I think such a character would work incredibly well in 40k. Who better to foil the various insanities of the Imperium than someone doing what any reader would recognize as the sensible thing to do. @@mill2712 well in 40k he'd probably be killed by the imperium in, even if we just magically made him human...he's bound to do something that a trigger happy inquisitor doesn't like if he was a necron then alot of his ability would go, because war is an art and all that eldar, I reckon because thrawn just can't understand magic in any form and always seeks to remove it as a factor...he'd do pretty badly with the space elves theres chaos but again magic...also you cannot organize chaos theres the t'au and heres where I reckon he could actually do...something (funny how the blue alien that acts as a foil to his surroundings does really well in the faction of blue aliens that act as a foil to their surroundings) Thrawn thrives on getting the best out of everything he's got, winning battles that by ANY metric should be lost, eg, ukio or the battle against Trade Federation Special Task Force One. The t'au are the ultimate underdog of 40K who by a mix of good millitary doctrine, careful planning and a whole lot of luck have survived a setting that should have killed them long ago. I could see thrawn not only fighting but genuinely winning against the superior forces of the imperium of man, similar to his early campaign against the new republic, though to no where NEAR the same degree. he'd know when to fight, when to run, when his foes would fight, where and so on. Significantly helping the t'au gain more space and industry in a short time...Thing with thrawn is inspite of what he may say he is arrogant, reasonably so for a man like him but still, and I imagine he would not temper his ambition and end up incurring a second damocles crusade, sending things back to where they started.

I file Perturabo in the category of characters that GW has made too powerful to use. Like they made his primarch ability "I can look at technology and understand how it works, what it does, and how to upgrade it" and the guy was alive during some of the most devastating wars of the imperium. Just with that alone he "should" be able to tip the scales of power through raw technological warfare advantage, which puts him in a situation where they either can only use him to a limited degree or they have to make him a moron who doesn't take advantage of his abilities. So if they bring him back there with either be no character change or he will do vary little. As for the "controversial" iron warriors creation, honestly that thing, while horrible and nightmarish, is what you get when you sacrifice morality for logic, because it did exactly what they designed it to do, it allowed them to replenish their troops without having to constantly take and strip worlds to do it like the other chaos legions had.
The Iron Warriors are my favorite legion, and I like Perturabo quite a bit. Like me, they are stubborn and analytical assholes. And regardless of any shit people talk about Perty, he’s easily one of the best strategists in 40k. He also gets bonus points with me for the time during the Siege of Terra, where he identified a trap Dorne had set, and he told Abadon that it was a weak point that he should attack. Abadon still survived, but I just love that Perty doesn’t like Abadon and decided to troll him.
Iron Warrior are not greek. Well, they are but not the ones you think of, sparta, athens and the bunch. They are Seleucid. They are Pontus. They are the Anatolian greek who did the siege of Troye, they are both achemenid and greek. You can see that in the name of the different units of the legion. One who come in mind is the Stor-Bezashk. That part of the legion is the part who play with the Ordo Reductor. The Stōr-bizeshk on the other hand are the ones who take care of the cavalery of the Sassanid Empire. You know, the heavy punch named the cataphractii like in the terminator armor.
One solution for a competent Perturabo would be for his new goals to be completely skew to the rest of the factions. Such as an exp dud from the galaxy or turning the legion into a perfected version of what the Necrons are. So extremely dangerous if you are in his way, but his way is so cryptic now it's hard to tell why here and not there? Addendum: to build on the idea, a story idea: Guilliman receives an offer of parley from Perturabo, with an offer of an STC for an improved geller field generator if he attends. Everyone expects a trap, but the terms seem worth walking into it, so they go. It is not a trap. Perturabo presents Guilliman with a list and schedule of planets that will be destroyed, and an offer that if Guilliman's forces do not molest his, he will not interfere in any way with the complete evacuation and stripping bare of those worlds. Guilliman is not amused, and Perturabo responds with no force in the galaxy can save them, not yours, not even Dorn's, and concludes the discussions with a timeline of when his forward units would arrive at those worlds to receive Guilliman's decision. Of course, the answer is no, and the IW forward units are fired upon. However instead of setting in for their typical siege, they retreat and start a harrying action against the defenders. Except for one world where they are setting up for something big. However every attempt to push it gets sidelined by heavy assaults on the other objective worlds, including global destruction level strikes, requiring concerted efforts to avert. The Imperium is holding it's own when the worlds start waking up. They are all Necron Tomb Worlds, of the same previously unknown dynasty. The Ultra Marines are in it up to their necks as Necrons pour fourth inside their defenses, and the Iron Warriors fall like the hammer of god onto the one world. They were building a planet cracker, which they use to split the world apart, dive in, scoop out select critical bits of the seat of the Necron Dynasty and leave, leaving the Ultra Marines to deal with what is left of the decapitated Necron horde.

EDIT 01: Imagine an AU where Guilliman and Perturabo teamed up. The Imperium would've gotten a lot of stuff done quicker and more effectively with these two just making sure everything was well-connected. EDIT 02: ALSO YES! A missed as all Warp opportunity by GeeDubs (common GeeDub L) to not basically turn the numerous Greek mythology monsters into Daemon Engines. If the Vashtor-Iron Warriors alliance gets more attention, they better do this! I wanna see the Minotaur be turned into a 60+ foot tall giant Daemon Engine that can and will eff stuff up in its general vicinity (usually anything that dares exist in the same Hive City as it).

Pert constantly smashing his fist into the wall, devoting himself to siege warfare hoping for SOME kind of affirmation that his efforts weren't wasted...until it broke him. Confined to solitary confinement with his men, beating them and himself until the iron to these tools were as malleable as needed but the human imperfections still shown, no matter how he ignores it. He wants to be in Dorn's place, which is why he openly dislikes him as shown in the Iron Cage gambit, a challenge and a show for any audience to witness. He'd be better off rebuilding what's been destroyed to gain the people's trust, that the end to such violent means was worth it while Pert gets his affirmation. But Big E didn't care for that, and rushed his sons to damnation with his bias and favoritism as nails for his coffin. I'm glad the Emperor didn't see himself as a God, just makes the Word Bearers victory all the more ironic. Especially when I hate the Word Bearers, but I also hate how Monarchia's situation was handled just the same.

What am I making reference to is the fact that the emperor was Desperately Seeking out his son's not only reunite them with their Legions but also because for some reason they could not make enough Gene seed using just the progenoid glands of the marines. They required the material of the primarch, which was mostly untainted to make more. What I am asking is, what would the warhounds have been if they had access to the stable gene seed of Perterabo without his rage induced psycopathy? Tourist.
I love how chaos would have won at terra if it wasnt for the other primarchs just ignoring Perdy's plans so he just rage quits and pulls his forces back. a vastor/perdy alliance would be awesome and abaddon would be just stupid if he didnt ask for P's advice once the 2nd war for terra begins

The Daemonculaba were in the first 40k book I read. Pretending they aren't cannon goes against everything that made me interested in 40k in the first place: being Grimdark. If I have to accept that Primaris Marines exist, then the community needs to accept that Daemonculaba exist.

I hard Simp for Dorn and the high ranking imperial fists but hot damn, Iron warriors abusing the f*ck out of chaos for demon engines and effective siege warfare has my traitor faction decided for Space Marine 2. The first Primarch out of Dorn and Perty to understand how to get their brothers to listen to them win the setting.

They use the slaves as factory workers then as first line defence force to fight off the Orks. They basically treat the slaves like livestock using mortal slavers to keep production going.
