Why did they favor Hinata over Lee?

The Hyuga clan was incredibly hyped up in Naruto, I always thought it was obvious they stepped in to prevent the Hyuga clan from blaming them for letting it happen.

Honestly, with the way konoha treated most of the konoha 12, I'm surprised nobody turned to the Akastuki.

Boruto pulled an Eren Yeager by traveling to the past and told the Jonin to save Hinata.

The Neji vs Hinata fight was already over. Neji attached her out of anger because she pointed out his distress about the Huga. Lee vs Gaara was not officially over then Guy stepped in.

Hinata vs. Neji was unfortunately a mismatch one-sided fight from the start. Lee held his own beautifully and even had Gara nearly beaten so it was a more even fight. The fight was ended when it was determined to be over, as you said. Lee has always had that fighting spirit and his own immense skill to back it up, whereas Hinata was just being stubborn on a self-imposed moral basis without the skill necessary to push that moral high ground.

Still makes no sense why the cloud had any right to claim retribution for their ninjas death. Man was kidnapping a 4 year old girl, it's war at that point.

The reason of why several Jounins stopped Negi was because the referee already announced stoppage of the fight and was already running to get in between the the two combatants. As for Rock Lee, he was doing such a good fight that he may still fight back. It was Guy's decision to step in to save Rock Lee's life, as he was sure Rock Lee can't go on.

I think it’s because gaara and rock lee were battling at a chunin level and then arguably at jonin level with the gates opened so everything happened so fast.

this has a very simple answer, Hayate called the Hinata vs Neji Match Naruto's interruption did nothing to change that the match was OVER. Lee vs Gaara hadn't been called.

The truth is that it would have caused strife if Neji had killed Hinata... This would have sparked a war between the two Hyuga clans... No one wanted that. As for Rock Lee, he was just an ordinary person like anyone else We can also see this through the village's sacrifice of four of its best rising youth in a mission to recover one of the Uchiha (Sasuke), even though that mission will end in loss in any way, even if they recover Sasuke.

Because Lee was capable and everyone knew that Gai would've stepped in had he deemed it appropriate whereas Neji was just dismantling Hinata and disrespectfully at that, which is the reason why Naruto even vowed to get her revenge.

The real reason is because Kishimoto wanted to show how strong Guy was by stopping Gaara with a single back hand. Also, having the spotlight on Guy makes the moment more emotional. That’s the only reason the other Jonin didn’t save Rock Lee.

It's entirely possible the other Jonin heard Hayate concluded the match and that's when they decided to step in, as some sort of premeditated protocol (and that's why they all, perfectly, neutralized Neji, from different angles, at the same time, and not bumping into each other)

I think the biggest factor was that they were both from the leaf village, so the leaf jonin had enough authority over them to intervene, it would probably be bad reputation for the leaf to meddle with other village's fighters.

I feel like the reason Asuma didn't intervene is because the image was already full and looked great so there was no room for him that would also look good. And Kishimoto just lampshaded that later as a joke.

ok Hinata fight is already over hayate called it and Neji want to keep going. while Lee fight is not over yet and guy stepped in to basically just surrendered for Lee. And in order for Hayate to call the fight off is they surrender themselves or unconscious and unable to fight back and Lee is still appears to can fight back and guy only realize Lee is actually unconscious is after he getting closer to him. Guy know Lee capabilities so he is correct and that's why only him to stepped in and surrender for him.

Let's be honest. Hinatas dad would have been happy if Hinata got into an "accident" so hanabi can become the main heir. Then end neji in justifications for doing it. Three birds one stone I mean in general why is Hinata a ninja? She could get kidnapped at anytime from those crazy clouds if they had one spy in the village. Anime filler she kept getting kidnapped for example. She doesn't have an itachi protecting her from outside forces or inside ones too.

Lets be real, the Hyuga probably donate a lot of money to the Chunin Exams organization, and they knew that money was going to stop if their princess was killed.

Hinata's fight was already finished when Neji tried to kill her, the other figths, including Lee's where still going while getting nuked

Guy intervened with Lee about at the same point as they did with hinata. The reason the other jonin didn’t is probably because Lee was assumed done for after failing the primary lotus and gaara was just torturing him. So they didn’t know if he was going to flip the tide again and we also blown away by what they just saw Lee pull off with the gates. Only guy was sure that his student was definitely not going to be able to handle anymore. Plus guy was the only sensei really involved in his students fights cheering and telling Lee to take the weights off. Basically making it clear that he’s got responsibility and they can just sit back and

I always thought it was just because they just figured Lee to go even more super Saiyan at the end so they let Guy make the decision... If you didn't know about the 8 gates and how it hurts Lee as well, and were just watching the fight you would think that Lee is just hitting a speed bump in a fairly one sided fight 😅

I think its because its the difference between two mma fighters fighting eachother and a street brawler trying to fight an MMA fighter. Plus before they jumped in they noticed he was going in for the kill

I believe it is more than likely Masashi just drew almost every jonin stopping Neji because the scene was just pretty impressive at sight and of course Hinata can't die because naruhina Also Guy stopped Gaara because Lee is his student and he cares about him thus making the scene more emotional when Guy defends Lee against Gaara Anyway, love your channel and all the types of analisis that you bring to the Naruto universe. I saw it as Neji was gonna kill Hinata but The Gara fight stopped before Rock Lee was in danger of getting killed. Getting crippled is almost as bad but Rock Lee was still alive.

Love the ragnarok online music in the background. All honesty, never thought about why Hinata got saved, revisiting this definitely seems to raise a few questions.

The reasons are both political, ethical, and practical. Obviously, Hinata's Hyuga status plays a part. But I would argue there are two additional reasons. In terms of practicality, it doesn't make sense to allow your own genin to kill each other, especially if it's over a personal intra-familial beef that should have solutions other than just murdering each other in frustration. Also ethically. For one, Lee vs Gaara was an actual fight. Hinata vs Neji was just a cousin beating up his younger cousin because he's angry. And... allowing Neji to do that would basically set a bad example to the other genin, that you're essentially allowed to just murder each other over (again) personal, petty beef without any form of punishment or comeuppance. Of course, this isn't to say this never happens in real life, as surely it does, but the head of a boxing gym doesn't allow, I hope, their students to literally pummel each other to death, even if they do happen to have good reasons for not liking each other. Being a ninja, like being a normal soldier, isn't just about mindless killing, it's about knowing why you fight for what you fight for, and shinobi are bound first to each other and then to their village. EDIT: also, in line with the practicality example, suppose we allow Neji to kill his cousin and is promoted to Chunin. Is that really the behavior we want our chunin to have, selfish, vengeful, and petty? This is the Leaf after all, not the Mist of the old days

no one stepped into Lee vs Gaara until Lee was about to be killed. Same with Hinata vs Neji. and i would agree that Guy noticed what was happening before Hyate did, and stopped the sand from reaching Lee earlier than they stopped Neji from killing Hinata.

I'd say that the author probably just wanted o build Gaara up as a massive threat after showing us how strong Lee is.

Um i seem to remember Gai jumped in and stopped Gaara from killing him and Gaara couldn't understand why Gai would do that.

I think they waited until each combatant was helpless to stop the fight. Rock Lee was a lot more capable than hinata, so he would need to be a lot closer to death to determine that he can’t fight anymore.

I believe that there are two reasons why, reason number 1 Hinata was the heiress to the hyuga clan and killing her would have made Neji not look good. Reason number two is directly connected to reason number one Neji had killed Hinata then he would have been executed by the seal on his forehead by the clan elders.

I’m sure part of it was also the fact that both neji and hinata are both leaf ninjas so you’re not risking any sort of international incident. Stopping another lands ninja would be a much bigger deal.

the arm and leg injurys wasn't what crippled him. it was opening the gates what did it, his body wasn't trained enough to endure the drawbacks of opening them. the sand coffin injurys are what these battles are expected to happen during these exams since its the purpose of the exams to pit there genin to see if they are ready for the next level. once gaara was aiming for the kill guy stepped in. gaara was to weak for the other jonins to be needed to prevent the finishing blow.

I'm only seven minutes into the video so maybe you get to it eventually, but o far you have left out a simple but needed to mention fact. In the Neji and Hinata fight the proctor had already declared the fight over, and Neji the winner when he was stopped. That had not happened in Rock Lee's case. It was still an active fight in the exams.

if it weren't for the attack happening, Hinata loosing would have been the most politically important thing going on in the leaf. Orochimaru really saved Hinata from embarrassment.

15:24 Guy slicing Gaara's sand to save Lee was thanks to Gaara's good reflex and maybe a little of his "gentle winner" side, his attention was drawn to some dark figure under the sand. I don't believe Gaara went through with his attack: so Guy basicallly sliced through harmless remnants of a canceled attack. Guy put himself in the way, endangering himself it felt like the right thing to do. It was more for symbolism than for Guy being powerful.

In Lee vs Gaara, they thought both Lee and Gaara were both weakened.... Gai chose to just quit on his behalf. But for Neji vs Hinata, Neji already won..... Also, Neji would be traumatized if he won.... he'd have murdered his own little sister....

I mean, there's a simpler difference between the two cases: Neji and Hinata were not actively engaging with each other in combat, and the fight was effectively over with Neji clearly fit to fight and Hinata clearly not. Hinata said something that provoked Neji into attacking unnecessarily with intent to kill, while the proctor and senseis were fully aware that Hinata would be in need of medical attention and was in no state to continue fighting. The proctor and senseis were all aware of the bad blood between Neji and Hinata, and were alert to a circumstance like this happening. Lee and Gaara were both down and exhausted, their fight still undecided and their physical states unclear at a glance in the moment before Gaara struck. In that situation the authorities watching the fight would be hesitant to intervene in favor of a particular fighter to force a forfeit. Gai in particular was against doing so in favor of his own pupil. Additionally, the proctor and senseis did not have the same insight into Gaara's murderous instability that Team Eight did. At this point, only Hinata, Kiba, and Shino truly knew how dangerous Gaara was. They were not as alert to something like this, and so were slower to intervene. (Although I will point out, the anime takes an unnecessary liberty by having Gaara's sand move really slowly in this moment; in the manga, a good slice of that page is dedicated to the senseis, proctor, and even Neji showing visible surprise, indicating that Gaara crushing Lee's limbs caught them all off-guard.)

I think when making these episodes they did not think of the charackters and what they would think to do, its more likely that they just let lee fight until the end to show us how strong his will to defeat someone like gaara is thats being said at this time did never bleed or take damage in his life, and then the jonins needed to stop neji to show how powerless hinata is against neji makes more sense to me

The hint is also there when hayate touched nejis headband hinted that they was about to restrain him and activate the curse mark on his forehead

Apart from wanting to protect what is essentially the village’s princess, I think the Jonin watching were in awe of what had happened. Several of them had probably never seen someone open the inner gates (or so many) The scale of power shown in the battle left everyone frozen in awe, mixed with an intense respect towards Lee with a glimmer of hope that he would somehow be able to beat Gaara. After the Sand coffin destroying Lee’s limbs, that should have been the moment where everyone kind of snapped back to reality that Gaara was going to take it to far. At that moment, Guy was the quickest by far there after Lee so he was the first to be able to step in.

I always just assumed the situation unfolded much quicker, and it was less obvious that it was such a mismatch.

nobody tried to stop lee when every leaf village ninja assumed Lee was breaking EVERY bone in Garra's body XD, so given the context that lee was basicly trying to murder Garra, why would any1 step in mid fight. Lee reserved nothing in that fight, and Lee is the one who went overboard first. Lee was under the impression he was making Garra cripple when tossing him around like a rag doll. Lee got what he deserved in actuality, and i think alot of us over look that.

Don’t forget that gara was probably still stronger then some people when he was beaten up.

Apart from what you said, I think there's also the issue of timing. Lee's fight started out both being somewhat equal, then went into Lee outright dominating Gaara until all of a sudden, this switched around, when the side-effects of the gates kicked in. With this sudden reversal, it's not too surprising if the Jonin might have been caught off guard, or if they hadn't realized how severe Lee's debilitation by those side effects was. Guy on the other hand is intimately familiar with both those side effects and reading Lee's body language to deduce whether he was really struggling or faking his debilitation to lure Gaara into a trap. Sure it shouldn't happen for Jonin to be caught off guard, but even with all their powers and training, they are still Humans and Humans who probably didn't expect that they would have to step in, when there was a dedicated proctor there. Hinata on the other hand was dominated from start to finish, with Neji getting more and more agitated and cruel in increments, so there was little to no surprise with him finally tipping over the edge, when he did. Not to mention that Neji proclaimed he would kill Hinata with the next strike. And then there is the issue of Hayate's familiarity with the respective techniques. As a Leaf shinobi, he'd be far more familiar with what a death blow by a Hyuga looked like, than with Gaara's sand attacks. Gaara could have done whatever with his sand, from ripping Lee to shreds, to "just" breaking his two good limbs too, to just knocking him unconscious, to tickling him to humiliate him before the audience. Sure a death blow was by far the most likely, but no guarantee. Certainly less certain then Neji outright shouting "If you don't stop me, I'll kill her!" at the top of his lungs.

Considering that, while Hinata was part of the main family branch and the daughter of the clan's head, her father had chosen her younger sister Hinabi as the heir over her at this point in the story because of how timid Hinata was. But she was still an important member of the clan and her injuries were being inflicted on her by Neji. Whom would have faced serious consequences, as a member of the cadet branch, had he done any more harm to Hinata. Possibly being killed for his actions. So we can look at this as the Jonin jumping in as protecting two member's of the Hyuga clan Lee on the other hand was using the Eight Inner Gates, a Kinjutsu (Forbidden Technique) so most the injuries he sustained where self inflicted as a consequence of the use of his own "jutsu."

Thinking about, maybe Neji and Hinata could be the only ones of the Konoha 13 who is very distrustful of the Hidden Cloud.

Because the match was already over when nehi went to murder hinata, Lee and garra were mid fight when garra's sand crushed lee's arm and leg. If you recall after that they falled the match off giving the win to garra who tried to finish Lee off before the jonin got involved.

I think the jonin were already somewhat prepared to have to step in during Neji's fight. They all know how powerful he is and exactly how the gentle fist attacks work because they are all Leaf ninja. They also knew about his grudge against Hinata and the main branch. Gaara, while showing some of his power, was largely unknown to everyone in the room but his siblings. So it is very possible that the fight had more ambiguous expectations and the power relationship between Gaara and Lee was more equal. No one felt the need to rescue Lee because Lee wouldn't have stuck out as an immediate victim to any of them

Pure classism. Lee was only saved because Guy actually cared about his student.

the reason why, was because neiji have already shown that he IS Far superior to Hinata, and he going for the killing blow was Just for his ego. it was clear for everyone in that Room.

I'll add my 2 cents. Gaara was also down when Lee was still moving. I don't know if the leaf ninjas knew what Gaara could or would do at that point. The sand ninja didn't want to even want to try to get between Gaara and his prey. From an objective ignorant point of view, no one but the sand ninja that Gaara could do or would do what he did. Plus doing the fight up until this point Gaara was using the sand defensively. You have to figure the knowledge of how damaging the sand was and how Gaara could use it.

I remember being kinda ticked at Neji after this fight. P.S. Is that BGM from Ragnarok Online? I played it from around 2005 to 2009 and I swear it reminds me of it. Darn, was it from one of the Payon fields? Oh man, nostalgia just gut punched me.

Guy jumped in in both cases when an attack that could have killed the other participant was unleashed. When it was against his student, it was obvious that he wouldn't let it land. When it was his student attacking, he obviously couldn't let him become a murderer, even less so a person who'd murder his own cousin. Kurenai jumped in for the same reason as why Guy did in the first case. As for why the rest of the jounins didn't move when Lee was in trouble, it's most likely because they assumed, that until the jounin that those genin learn under don't make a move, that genin likely has an ace up their sleeve to deffend themselves. But out of the 4 jounins who jumped in to protect Hinata, Kurenai, who is a genjutsu specialist, was by far the slowest. The other 3 probably reacted to Kurenai making a move, and simply got there faster. When Guy makes a move, good luck getting there faster. He's literally the fastest ninja in Konoha during that arc. The only way in the entire city to move faster are those 3 anbu ninjas working together who learned the "flying thunder god jutsu" from Minato, but even they can only use it on someone when the 3 are all together. (They used it during the war arc, a grand total of 1 times, so they might have been a simple a$$pull that were tought up for that single chapter, to get a character to the frontline in 0 time.)

I think Gai's aura played a part, nobody is going to interfere with essentially his son and gai's pride in Lee stopped him from interfering himself

My thought is all the Jonin were probably waiting on Guy's reaction. They all knew how eccentric he is when it comes to proving strength and they respected him enough to let him step in when he felt appropriate. Most, probably all of the Konaha 12 were just straight up terrified of Gaara so they wouldnt enter the ring while he was going insane

My headcannon is that unlike other leaf village fights there wasn't killing intent so there was no need to end the fight earlier and Lee vs Gaara it was Guy who intervene, but only at the very last moment because if he had stepped up earlier it would hur Lees pride, something Guy respects a lot. But when the fight became life or death things are different and it looks that he is holding back his anger, if any jounin had intervened earlier Guy would not be happy and this could end up in a brawl since Lee isn't the kind of guy that would give up unless he is unconcious.

You've missed a very important part. The Eight Gates are a Forbidden Jutsu of the same caliber as Shadow Clone, and Flying Raijin. It only ever has a single vessel a generation. There was no double standard- it was hard for any proctor to know Lee was cooked until his leg was broken- because he's out there busting out a jutsu on the level of Flying Raijin.
