At least Eddie was put out of his misery when the rex bit down after flipping him. The death in the book was far more gruesome and gut wrenching. Either way he went out like a champ in both.

When I read the book death it didn't seem as brutal to me as I assumed he would have been dazed and hurt after falling from such a high height, making him more numb to the pain and not really knowing whats going on.

B MC actually it can be argued that the T-rex scene is way worse. Not only was Eddie confronted with this primordial fear of being eaten alive, but the Tyrannosaurus really just crushed the bones in his body. Neither the buck or the doe rex had actually killed Eddie, even after ripping him in half. In fact according to medical science, the human brain can actually remain conscious for up to two minutes after the time of death, even in the most gruesome of circumstances like decapitation. So there is at least the outside possibility that Eddie was “alive” and aware of what was happening to him, even when he was being ripped in half, eaten and eventually partially digested. Not a great way to go in any circumstances

He had his own ideas for the lost world movie plus keep in mind the ending of the first movie and book is very different so what comes after is very different

Klayton Fioriti hey klayton there’s this argument that just because they use geothermal power on Sorna doesn’t mean there is physically a volcano on the surface of the island and they could just be getting it from lava flows under the island what do you think of this argument?

+darthlord1997 I agree that they dropped the ball on some of the book's potential, the biggest being chameleonic dinosaurs that we didn't get until Jurassic World(for a few seconds). They could have easily done so by one of two ways. One, make some of the Velociraptors chameleons. There was a nice set up for this in the first novel where a juvenile Raptor changes it's skin color according to it's mood. This ability could have made the adults even more scary than they already were. Two, have one of the hunters go look for Dieter and get picked off by a camouflaging Carnotaurus that surprises him from behind just like the Indominus does to Hamada in JW. Leaving it at that could keep the Carno mysterious and add tension to the group's situation as they continue their travel towards the village. They were originally planning to have Ludlow die at the island like Dodgson does in the book thanks to the buck rex pretending to be a rock which is how it sneaks up on them. This seems like a homage to Crichton's Carnotaurus. As it is, it is lost potential and one of my biggest childhood disappointments. Judging by how the new trilogy won't feature any more hybrids akin to Indominus in the future, we likely won't see any more stealth camouflage in the movies which is a bummer.

I do enjoy TLW the movie, but I've always hated that it deviated SO MUCH from the book, and this video makes it clear that Spielberg and Koepp never, ever intended on doing a faithful adaptation of it, but their own story using its title, a few setpieces and the very bare bones of the plot setup (i.e. there's a second island and competing teams go to it). And although the San Diego sequence evolved from Spielberg's image of the T-rex looking through the window at the kid, the justification for it in-story was to borrow from the *other* Lost World, that written by Arthur Conan Doyle, or, more specifically, it's 1925 movie adaptation involving a rampaging Brontosaurus Challenger and co. bring to London; the book has a rather less impressive, but still satisfying, ending involving a live Pterodactyl being brought back, which vindicates Challenger's claims. Crichton himself borrowed more from Doyle's book than just its title, as well; the Levine character is very Challenger-esque, particularly in his motivation to prove that dinosaurs have survived extinction in an isolated area, and his extremely arrogant, confrontational personality which makes him difficult to get along with, or even like. Unlike Challenger, however, he is completely wrong in almost all of his assumptions. Unaware of the events of the first novel, he believes Isla Sorna is proof of his theory about prehistoric survivals (and is extremely depressed when he discovers the truth). He is right early on that the dinosaurs showing up on the mainland are coming from an island, but wrong about how they came into existence. He's basically a fun deconstruction of Challenger, where the guy with the crazy theories who nobody believes is... totally wrong. There's still dinosaurs, obviously, he's just wrong about *why*. And Challenger never gets anyone killed. Not in the book or in the 1925 film (unless you count a deleted sequence where they're attacked by cannibals and lose one member of their team, which is hardly Challenger's fault). The only fatalities in the expedition in the book are Gomez and his co-conspirator Manuel, who want vengeance against Roxton for killing Gomez's brother, the cruel slaver Pedro Lopez. They're killed in retaliation by Roxton and Zambo, after they strand the main group to die on the plateau, and not by any of Challenger's actions (unless one blames him for failing to do a proper background check on his team members, difficult at the time even with all the preparation put into the expedition). By contrast, Levine rushing off to Site B like an idiot gets his guide Diego killed pretty much immediately after the two arrive (even though Diego wasn't doing himself any favors by ignoring basically everything Levine told him), and after he gets stranded as a result, Malcolm and co. have to come and rescue his dumb ass, which leads to Eddie's death. To be fair to Levine, both deaths are only *indirect* results of his actions, but, still, his decision to rush off half-cocked with only one guy and then losing that guy basically kicked off a chain reaction of events leading to Eddie dying fighting the raptors. And whereas Challenger, despite his boorish personality, had a kind of gruff likability and a magnetism to him through his sheer confidence, Levine just comes off as an annoying dick. Although part of this may because in both instances, the reader is privy from the get-go about whether both characters are right or wrong in their respective beliefs. We know Challenger is right, so we view anyone who challenges (heh) him is wrong, regardless of the soundness of their reasoning; we know he's right not because of any foreknowledge, even knowing the most basic elements of such an old novel, but because it'd be one really boring book if he were wrong. Meanwhile, we have foreknowledge that Levine is wrong about the existence of an actual lost world because of the first book, so his refusal to listen prejudices us against him from the get-go pretty much, with his acerbic personality not helping matters much. So, I guess, a lot of our perception of a character depends on whether we know they're right or wrong. It's why we can like Malcolm despite the fact he can come off as a smug know-it-all sometimes, because we know he's right, because he's basically the primary mouthpiece by which the books/films get a good chunk of their "misuse of science" philosophy across.

the plot for the antagonists made more sense, small team stealing dinosaur eggs not full grown dinos, They could still keep the badass hunter guy his first mate and one or two death fodder guys that would have more impactful deaths like the first movie.

Except "his baby" in that context was Sarah. They weren't even aware Kelly was there yet. So... not that kind of baby.

Yeah, I was *just* about to post that he went in there after their stupid asses, and by the time he caught up, they were already too far in to turn back, so he just decided to go with the flow and hope for the best, hence why you see him in the center of the group, where it's safest, as opposed to on the fringes or in the lead/bringing up the rear.

Which itself featured references to Doyle's book. In particular, Levine is a rather caustic deconstruction of Professor Challenger. Like Challenger, he's boisterous and arrogant and a know-it-all and difficult to get along with. Unlike Challenger, he's wrong about the existence of prehistoric survivals, and is a poor planner; his hastily thrown-together two-person "expedition" gets his guide killed (a "guide" who doesn't listen and doesn't seem to know about concealing oneself's existence from predators, meaning Levine is a poor judge of character), forcing his friends back in the US to come and rescue his dumb ass, leading to Eddie getting killed. Had he not decided to go ahead with only one guy accompanying him, who immediately gets killed, he wouldn't have turned the whole thing into an ad-hoc rescue operation that endangers two kids and indirectly gets at least one other person killed. This is solved in the film by having the expedition, despite Malcolm's protests, be necessary in order to prevent the exploitation of the island and dinosaurs being brought to the mainland in large numbers. In the book, it was all about rescuing Levine's stupid ass because no one knew about what Dodgson and Biosyn were up to until after he and his goon squad arrived. I think Levine's only redeeming traits are his affection for Kelly and Arby and how he inspires them, and the fact that, after losing his guide Diego, he proves remarkably adept at surviving all by himself on the island.

@@williamhiers1280 But Crichton's novel was a great decontruction of the original Lost World novel. The movie was just an action flick that took the most "interesting" setpieces and made a movie out of them.
