I have a 2wd 4cylinder 2001 frontier king cab. Best truck i've ever owned. My wife laughed at it when I first picked it up, she was expecting a huge truck. She couldn't believe how comfortable it was. After mild maintenance and new shocks that thing goes everywhere. I've gone on mexico trips all the way to big bear and no problems what so ever. AC blows cold. the only thing I wish my truck had was cruise control, so you can sit back and relax lol.
Their reputation along with resale value in the market is high. The toyotas I have owned were all amazing cars. nissans are good, their engine and transmissions are great. But i found that Nissan has worse build quality than Toyota. But pretty darn reliable.
I know I'm late to the party as this post is 4 years old. I was a young man when the truly smaller trucks were popular. I always liked the style of the Tacoma but never wanted to fork over that type of $. I've had many trucks but for small trucks I had 2 Ford Rangers. An 07 & an 11. Reliable trucks. Am in the process of acquiring a 99 Frontier. 4 cylinder single cab Automatic with Tonneau cover. One owner, 56k miles with all of his service Records. Never had a Nissan but am looking forward to my run! Going to have to go to Goodwill store and find me some "cassettes." Oh, the good old days. I also enjoy doing maintenance and will appreciate the room under the hood! Great Video.
Mine was a 1999 Frontier single cab XE. I got it at 16 and made all the payments. I absolutely babied that truck. All oil changes by the dealership. I waxed it monthly. I put a chrome UWS toolbox, stainless bed rails, Infinity speakers, JVC cd player, alarm and remote start. I was absolutely anal about keeping it clean. Some punk in his dad's F150 rear ended me at a red light doing almost 40mph. The bumper was almost touching the rear end. The bed and cab made contact and warped the doors. He hit me hard enough that 3 vehicles ahead of me were involved. The damn thing still started and drove! The F150 had to be towed away. That punks dad was chewing his azz the entire time... Apparently he took it without permission and that was his work truck.
My Dad's friend is giving me his extended cab 2000 Frontier, 2.4L with 5-speed. He bought a new truck, and he doesn't use it anymore. Nothing wrong with it, has around 200K miles. All it needs is a new brake switch, or the wires cleaned, which hardly costs anything lol! Body and paint is in great shape, just needs to be cleaned. He bought it brand-new, and changed the oil every 5k miles! As far as reliability, I think this truck in general is neck and neck with the original Toyota Pickup, or 1st gen Tacoma. Just about every truck from that era was very reliable.
I just bought one.A 99.56k original miles. One owner.Imagine his but red with a tonneau cover. I am old enough to appreciate what I have found. Had an 07 and an 11 Ranger. They don't make a truly "small truck" any more and the price of a new one is astronomical.
@@mayonnaiseluther1568 sorry just saw this. The truck was ok but did have many worn out parts. Left me stranded a few times due to bad distributor. Took care of all that and truck running great now. Definitely learned a lot about these trucks
I bought a nissan frontier 2000 v6 manual transmission, in 2007 .. with 170k miles on it . 14 years later and over 60 k more truck still solid as rock .. only replaced the battery, and new tires .. best truck ever .. truck will probably last longer than me
@kirrus4781 Agreed. Never owned a Tacoma as I never wanted to fork over that kind of loot. Small trucks I had 2 Rangers.(07 & 11)I just recently started looking again for a small truck. Found a 4 cylinder 99 with 56K on it and 1 owner. Beats paying the Tacoma Tax.
I've got the same truck. Bought it six years ago last month, put 54k miles on it. Its at 252k now, and no real issues. I worked with a guy that bought one new in 1998 and put 300k on it before he got hit and it was totalled.
I just bought one 4 door 4x4 v6 117,000 for 500$ had to put new injectors and new computer in it cost me almost 1800$ it has power windows and a useless sunroof
@@bricehale6593 I bought a 95 hardbody 2wd d21 5speed for $500, i put new brake calipers, new brake lines, new ecu and total it came out to like overall $100 for the calipers, $40 for the hoses for the brakes, $25 for the pads, and $150 for the ecu. 100% worth it... $500 for the truck and a little over $200 to fix? it runs great man.
I buy my 2000 Nissan Frontier extended cab 2.4l 5 speed from my dads best friend I love it he take good care of it he own it since 2000 and I have it close to a year this coming up March 16 2022 and the parts are cheap and good on gas
Absolutely, this frontier had some issues. Engine and trans is the same as the hardbody. With newer vehicles im finding small electronic issues. On this frontier i had to repair the speedo cluster.
Both are those trucks that are amazing. i had both before. I like the frontier a little better just because it has more leg space compared to the toyota
@Vjt_01 Nissan pickups prior to 2000 were great, and engine and transmission is just as good as toyota. Toyota fit and finish is better, but not twice the price better than a older nissan. New nissans are crap.
Keep it under the year 2000. The Hardbody i have has 300,000 miles. Been through a few accidents and even a fire. But toyotas are great, but not twice the price great.
my 1999 frontier 4x4 has 276k and the original clutch starter alternator... with 3 cinder blocks in the back it'll move like a half track in deep snow..
I've got a 98 regular cab 5 speed manual with 240k. I drive the piss out of it and still get decent mileage lol. Only downside is I'm looking for a camper shell so I can start working out of it and I still can't find one. does anyone know something that will work? Also the bench seat is not adjustable and is pretty uncomfortable for me
Check out the bed dimensions of different year model and even other manufacturers. I found one next to a pile of trash & was looking at it when the owner said: "I'm chucking it buddy. You can have it if you want." Don't know what it was made for but it was about a inch too short & half inch too narrow. Fit my Toyota just fine. I think all the" mini" pickups had very simular bed sizes. Same thing with truck bed toolboxes. Got one of those on my S10 & have no clue what it was originally made for. ...as long as it drops in. :-) Good Luck Pal.
Those were noted as having very comfortable suspension for their time. Sounds like you need shocks/struts my bro. Also I advise having at least a front end alignment ,if not all 4 wheels alignment -(should only be about $50 more . So shocks, 4wheel alignment, & labour est .$400 plus any worn out parts. *I bet your loving it, ba-da-dat-dat,daa !!!! ..... LoL! Extra "Dad Joke" points for whoever get the pun at the end...ill give you a hint-... Rival- Jingle stucknowNur HEad!^* Here's your prize @;;;;;;;;;;;;)0 O. DONTCHOKE!
Nissan stoped making these for the provide reason you first talked about to small on inside if you're 6ft tall good luck I owned one barley fit inside way dangerous
