That means it's the only govt which oversaw corruption of the highest order that has never been witnessed in any other government as well. Large cities around the world have these highways in place but the traffic problems still exist. In a few years after construction we'll stil be complaining about traffic congestion. Construction of light rail would be the most effective way to get rid of traffic congestion.
@@jdoe9987 I agree with you but if the light rails, metros and bus lanes are properly designed and works/managed efficiently it should attract people. So using these transport means will surely encourage car users to keep their vehicles and in the long term make mainly cars useless. Lessons must be learn from what has been done abroad. Country planning is important in the development of a country at the condition to be done with a vision.
infact, they are bringing down elevated highways in most cities in the west. they ruin the aesthetics of a city. a good public transport system (light rail or metro) is all Nairobi needs.
It is not a question of one or the other. We need both. Light rails and improved public transport will keep alot of vehicles off the road. But there are still many people who would prefer to journey across the city in their own vehicles for very good reasons. Just provide for both and get people to pay directly for the services that they enjoy. Don't burden the general taxpayer in provision of those services. Even the cost of those light rails ought to be paid for by, and therefore recovered from those who use it.

If there were no donors, there wouldn't be any beggars. If you want beggars to leave the streets, just stop giving them money. They will disappear within a month. The power to either get the beggars out of the streets or to keep them there is in your hands. Don't look elsewhere. Just look within yourselves.

Nyali bridge replacement of the Colonial Floating Nyali Bridge with the Existing Bridge was thr first BOOT project on roas construction (This also was the same fro the Mtwapa Bridge which is wraped in the middle) . The Nyali Bridge was done by sumitomo construction of Japan and was a Toll Bridge from up to 1993. However this is a good project

Tanzanian government funded the initial phases for its electric SGR project ,can't say the same about Kenya being trapped in a massive Chinese debt with an air polluting slow diesel train. Turkey provided technology which was fully paid for and local labour utilized..recently we opted for a Chinese loan due to the costs associated with already having other self funded on going projects..Tanzania is equivalent to the size of Kenya, Uganda ,Rwanda Burundi all put together making it very costly to lay out such a railway system from one end of the country to another. We dictate the terms of the project that's why it's rare to see a Chinese foreign minister going into an African country just to sign a construction deal. It’s built by private investors, so they have to recoup their money from the tolls, the tolls will range from $1 to $10 depending on type of vehicle and weight, the big vehicles like lorries will pay the $10 while smaller vehicles will pay from $1-$3

The private investor cannot afford to delay the project by even a day after sinking in so much money. The spirit of capitalism will drive this project to its earliest completion date. Capitalism drives itself.
Ask yourself why Europe and other countries in Asia also use Chinese to build their projects, I have also never heard of Indians building things in Kenya
If you want to rely on Chinese funding then expect it to come with lots of Chinese stuff. So what can be done? Firstly raise funds locally. There's alot of money in Kenya looking for a home - float infrastructure treasury bonds. Open it to pension funds, corporates and individuals. Bring on board experienced contractors (Chinese will do just fine) To work side by side with local well established and reputable contractors for skills transfer. But also ask and seek an answer to a fundamental question. Why is it that local contractors can not satisfactorily implement even some very small projects? Most of them start attracting high maitanance costs within less than a year of completion! Is it really a skills deficiency or is it a question of ethics?
List 10 medium sized projects that have been done by local contractors satisfactorily and that have stood the test of time over the years? That is, a project that remains sound even just 15 years after completion? I see them engaged in resurfacing works and they dig up and repair large sections of roads that they have just resurfaced! Even simple projects like roads resurfacing! This kind of project has no room for trial and error. Let local contractors up their game. They have been a big let down.
Indian here. For our premier projects we too hire Americans and Europeans. The Chinese do as well for design work. They might be really good at construction but the designs are prepared by European and American Firms for premier projects in China. Had we or Chinese engaged local engineers in premier projects, the cost overruns due to delay in project and inflation increasing the price of project would have costed us alot. I know that local talent should be promoted but the problem is that when engineers and other staff cost hardly 5 Ksh out of 100 and materials and construction costs the other 95 Ksh, the priority should be given more to speeding up construction and bringing efficiency.
Also, I believe that the cement, steel and other materials are being locally sourced and not being imported. I believe that the Kenya has all the materials that's going in Bridge Construction, so one way or the other, people in Cement and Steel Industry are getting employment and the owner of such factories are also earning from it. In addition, Nairobi is getting decongested which would save locals, time and fuel. But from my perspective, Nairobi having a population of 4.4 million should also go for an Urban Transit System (Metro). The combination of Metros and Matatus would decrease the reliance on personal vehicles and improve Mobility in Nairobi
But someone is using it to connect to his lands or properties to add value his private property.Anyway others will benefit as well.Working smart to those who don't understand,will never!
