@HarJBeRw

I get that view, but I feel like it just moves the goalpost. Sure Louis XIV was a child and under a regency for the beginning of his reign, but disqualifying that time on the basis of the fact that he was a child and had no actual power feels like a double-standard when the point of comparison is a constitutional monarch who had very little power for the *entirety* of her reign. And by contrast, for most of his reign, Louis XIV was an actual ABSOLUTE monarch who held virtually unlimited power. Honestly, if you had to compare the Queen's rule to a period of Louis XIV's reign, she's probs most similar to him while under the regency (not dissing the queen in any way, twas different times)

Even though Princess Anne has to follow her younger brothers and can be pushed further down the line every time her brothers lines get new offsprings, this doesn't apply to Princess Charlotte because the laws of successions have recently been changed to absolute primogeniture, HOWEVER this change only affects (/benefits) female offspring born from 2011 onwards so it's still tough luck for Anne. Without this change, a potential King Louis would be third in line right now. The horror.

As well a Danish person "the queen" is for me the Queen of Denmark. Also I wouldn't say she is "much younger" than the British queen was. Queen Margrethe II is still 82 years old currently, and in that age range quite frankly 14 years isn't that much, but yes she has "only" reigned for 50 years, so to get to 70 years and overtake what the British queen managed, would require her to reach a bit over 100 years old, it is possible but quite unlikely

7:28 ahhh, now I can present my favourite fun fact: Napoleon IV was the final considerable heir to the French throne… until he died as a British soldier during a skirmish with Zulus. Yup. He was a British lieutenant. Queen Victoria personally attended his funeral. The only reason he went was because he forced Britains hand as a lieutenant since he had the authority, meanwhile Britain were extremely reluctant to put him in harms way. His death sent shockwaves through Europe at the time. Hell, even Napoleon III died in England. So the moral of the story is, if Napoleon IV can fight and die for his great grandads arch nemesis who also mourned him afterwards, then you can let go of those petty grudges you have over medieval history 😌

King Louis XIV - 72 years reigned - Semi-ceremonial (absolute/Ancien Regime monarch but Cardinal Richelieu run things) - Had a regent for 8 years Queen Elizabeth II - 70 years reigned - Full constitutional monarch (with lots of reserve powers for emergencies and crises) - Didn't had a regent I think the only argument that could have made Her Majesty as the longest-reigning monarch in history is that she didn't have any regents at all. Still, officially, it's still King Louis XIV who holds the record of the longest-reigning monarch of a sovereign nation in history.

We are not considering the Monarchy and the Empire the same regime, the Bonaparte weren't connected at all with the Bourbon dynasty. But from 987 to 1848 all our kings were linked to Hugh Capet the first king of France proper. Before him they were kings of the Franks not kings of France.

so France has not got a monarch because French revolution happened and kind of killed it off, until napoleon came along, and hits family members were the emperor's for a bit, Franco Prussian war then forced Napoleon III out had then that was the end of French monarchy.

Your passport is valid until its expiry also new notes will be issued in 2023 or 2024 with the King's head and maybe the queen's head as a tribute. Also any coins with the queen's head still valid until the Bank of England roll out the king Charles the III head on the money.

Damn that treaty of Versailles part made me crack up. I’m not french, I just like history. But seriously man, it doesn’t matter where the treaty is signed. If Versailles didn’t exist, than they’d sign a treaty elsewhere, all that would happen is that the world would be deprived of such a beautiful place

So I actually looked into it to see how long Louis XVI was actually in power. If you start his reign at the year he was coronated (1654) to the year he died (1715), he only truly reigned for 61 years. Now if you do the same for Queen Elizabeth II (1953 to 2022), she reigned for 69 years. So arguably, the Queen did reign longer
@savvageorge

How many times did the Queen declare war on other countries or build a palace? Louis had a lot more personal involvement in the government so I think he wins when it comes to actual decision making.
@Heisenberg882
@Heisenberg882 Год назад
He ruled before he was coronated, and even as a child he held more power than elizabeth ever did for example he banned cat burnings by himself at 10 years old, the reason he was coronated so late is because the fronde rebellion was raging in france.
@maximilianbeyer5642
@maximilianbeyer5642 2 года назад
Sure you can argue that Louis didn’t have power when he was a child. But then I would argue Elizabeth had just as little actual power over her country for her entire life
