Guitar Pilgrim Would be great if could do a similar video on Hank Marvin and The Shadows, they were a huge influence on The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, could have been a lot different if they didn’t make it!
I'm 59, and I find it amazing that my generation's music can be appreciated by young people (like this guy) with such obvious enthusiasm and knowledge. It would be as if I, in my youth, had loved and appreciated artists from my parents era, or even earlier...I was certainly aware of it, but never would have found it "cool" or exciting. Which, in turn, makes me so proud to be from a generation that gave the world such enduring and still-interesting and exciting music. Yay us!
Want to add one more thing : That Im impressed by your knowledge of music, as in playing Lady Jane in Mozart's style. It's great to know different musics. There is beauty to be found just about anywhere you look/Listen. Music is infinite and i never get tired of discovering different styles. It expands me and will do the same for anyone who will step on the path to exploring it. Youve done well yourself and I respect you for it. Thanks.
I've been a Beatles fan and Rolling Stones fan all of my life. I learned so much from watching this video. Absolutely amazing video thank you my friend.maybe we can teach the world to appreciate what good music is really all about.and make them stop by in the crap that they're buying.
It and the Allman Bros live at Fillmore East, although I vote ya ya’s....Heard it through the ceiling from my older brother’s room over and over as a child. “think I busted a button on me trousers”.
This is the first video of you, that I watched. This much I can say: It won't be the last :) You really struck a nerve with me, all that great licks and tricks will be in my daily routines for the next weeks And I HAVE to subscribe!
But i can compare to Queen, Bowie, John Mellancamp, Rundgren, Yes, ELP. Seen them twice. Disappointed both times. Watch Beetles Anthology. Jagger their in recording session. They never came up with anything on their own until they brought Ronnie Wood in from the Faces. They are nothing but Hype. You've never seen the best so I'm sorry that you don't know what you're talking about. Richards didn't come up with ideas. He took them from the best. Go see 100 different bands in 18 years and comment. Ac DC as an opening act blew them away. They are overrated and riding their hype. Richards was always to high to come up with anything on his own. His playing came from other legends.
Knowing the theory which you do is something, playing with the feel you do is something else. Man, having both is a gift you seriously own, I am delighted
Great presentation, brought up a lot of old memories of days gone by. The Stones have always brought me out of some funky moods over years, and still do. I share I your exuberance of them.
Thank's for a great video, Exile on main street ( double album) best stones period, best song ..gimme shelter, and as i said many times before; the stones are second to none!
Guitar Pilgrim, your videos are absolutely awesome. They reach the parts of learning other guitar videos don't even start to. Long may your fantastic output continue and you prosper too.
Thanks for this video man, you really inspired me to listen closer to the stones and especially to Brian Jones guitar and gave me some inspiration to work on my own guitar sound
Dude you are amazing! This is a class of "how to listen to a song"! It's complex, profound and inspiring! Thanks so much! And thanks to you I made my first Blues scale and thought: Hey ... this is Blues! Tks!
I love that I can watch your videos and feel like I have a fellow guitarist/rocker/musician friend I can have deep conversations about music and learn a lot from. Also learn some cool licks and lessons. The funny thing is, it’s not a conversation it’s just you speaking. But... You really know how to capture my full attention to the point I don’t want to speak just listen. And you inspire and motivate me to pick up my guitar(s) again and start jamming out. Thanks for the videos you’re like the ultimate coolest best friend I never had lol 🤣🤣🤣
One of the most entertaining and informative videos I have ever seen by one of the most talented musicans to have the inspiration and aptitude to create one the most instructional and inspiring lessons about the greatest band of all time. THAT, Sir, is how you make a video. Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! Let'$ $upport thi$ guy by $ub$cribing to hi$ channel and checking out hi$ web$ite. I plan to. Gotta run. Lots of other video of yours to watch. And again, Bravo!
The way you talk about music and demonstrate licks and chords it's brings out your love and passion for music in a rare and a pure form. Love your channel and thank you :)
What a wonderful video! Totally captivating. You made me want to practice the guitar again. Loved your presentation! Wow! Thank you for sharing your amazing talent with us.
I've never had a lot of time for the Rolling Stones I must confess, my attentions been busy elsewhere your video has shed a new light on me. thanks for the heads up
We shouldn't forget Ronnie Wood - the main thing here in my opinion ist how the guitar section ineracts with each other - and by the way both give me hope that there is a real chance to get old in dignity ;)
Great video. I agree about the Stones. A very unique band with probably the greatest front man of all time other than Elvis! Good Times, Bad Times is one of my all-time favorite songs. not only is the guitar playing great but whatever that 12 string guitar is he used on that track it just sounds so great. Especially with Mick's harmonica playing. Good luck with your channel and much continued success Pilgrim.
Ha, I love Elvis to, I will definitely do a video on Elvis at some point in the future! Thanks for your comment brother, I am glad you enjoyed. Cheers!
Bkellyusa Did Led Zeppelin cover that song? I listen to theirs and then saw that the Stones had a song with the same title and then I was curious if they were the same? Are they?
@@erin_22 - I never thought about that. Yeah, they both have the same name but they are significntly different songs. The Sontes tune is an accoustic blues performed on a 12 string guitar. You should hear it. I am sure it's on RU-vid somewhere.
@@mocheck I never compared the two of them on harmonica. Jaggers playing on that instrument is very unique in the sense that he just seems to play it the way he thinks it should go. You can't really hear any particular influence other than his own. He plays like he sings. What impresses me most abouut Mick's musical talent is that most of the percussion instruments you hear on their records is Mick. I had always assumed that it was Charlie overdubbing the parts but it's not.
Having a hard time coming up with words to describe you, your style and your channel! If I had to watch only one channel in YT! This must be the one!! Simply outstanding genuine musician.
I wish people would stop comparing the Stones to the Beatles. They were completely different styles. The Stones were a classic blues band backing a single fantastic vocalist. The Beatles were a harmonizing vocal group with a folk rock backing track.
He didnt compare them. He merely mentioned them and said the Beatles had written the first song the Stones did on their first single (other side was "Come On" by Cuck Berry). Eventually the Stones would start writing their own material, being made to do so by their manager, who said theyd never get anywhere if they kept doing covers.Of course, we all know the diff. between the two groups and I feel the Beatles were more musically intellectual as they went on after they came out of the teenage sounds. Anyway, thats my opinion about them. The Stones continued to kick ass as rockers and are still doing it in their late 70s.
Great great video, except ... not a word about Ron ? I think there is an 8th reason why the Stones kick ass : they are fantastic, exceptional, on stage. And Ron was born to be Keith's accomplice in front of a 50.000 people audience, and proved it once more during the 2018 tour. He exsudes joy - which Taylor really did not - and his togetherness with Keith is a pleasure to see and hear. Also, Brian was more universal and original, Taylor was more of a virtuoso solist, but with Ron there is less of "A soloist and a rythm guitar" and more of two guitars answering each other. Keith + Ron = an incredible musical engine (plus, of course, Charlie's unique drive). And that, also, kicks ass. All three line-ups are great, but I love this one. And one more thing : dear Mick, get well. GET WELL !
actually the licks you played were Taylor..... But Keiths solo was still great. Not as good as what he laid down on the studio version, which is probably the best solo Richards even recorded.
But I know what to DO with that E sting. I discovered it ALL by accident and didn't know Keith and i used that same tuning for his songs. I've tried to get in touch with him to show him how to use 6 strings. So if anyone can help me, let me know. Thanks.
Your videos are fascinating and very informative. I watched all of your “Why *insert name* kicks ass” and I consider myself a better guitarist just with what I learned on these legends. Keep those videos coming, you’re awesome!
Hi, great video. Another point that is often overlooked is that The Stones were one of the few bands that didn't follow the drummer. Everyone in the band followed Keith. It's one of the reasons The Stones don't sound like anyone else.
I'm not much of a country fan but the way you played sitting on a fence was just amazing, I re-watch this video all the time just for that and the good times bad times bit. a mesmerizing and truly talented showcase that most don't think of when they talk about the Stones. I look forward to more of this series!!
The Stones were musical geniuses. Their music was far more complex and interesting than most other before or since. Their innovations fusing early rock and roll with rhythm and blues were amazing, as was the diversity of instruments including Brian Jones on the recorder (Ruby Tuesday), marimba, sitar on a few songs, church organ and London Bach Choir (You can't Always Get What You Want} , Jagger on harmonica (Sweet Virginia), strings and brass (She's a Rainbow). The rhythm and blues add incredible richness. Kieth Richards' guitar riffs were amazing. Brilliant lyrics: Sympathy for the Devil, Mother's Little Helper, Paint it Black and others. Credit is also due to the studio musicians and arrangers like Nickey Hopkins, Jack Nitzsche, John Paul Jones, Merry Clayton (Gimme Shelter) and manager/drummer/musician Jimmy Miller. No other group even comes close. Listen to a piano cover of Angie and study the composition. I challenge all of you musicians to equal or exceed the Rolling Stones. We want more music of that quality. sition.
Growing up a fan of The Who, Zepp, etc. ... I always thought the Stones were sloppy/lazy. Live performances were half hearted & Jagger would mumble most of the lyrics. Only recently have I come to appreciate the genius. They created some of rocks most iconic and catchy songs.
@@Mike_LaFontaine75 yeah ????Well...that's just like your opinion man..no one could play The Stones better than them your out of your mind..have you never heard Let it Bleed or Sticky Fingers or Exile on Main street ? Or Ladies and Gentlemen The Rolling Stones..or The Brussels Affair? My all time number one favorite band..they can do no wrong
@@charlessteenburgen LOL, they are far and away one of the least talented live bands of the era. The Who blew them away in concert. So did Cream. So did Hendrix. And where is the Stones rock opera anyway? Need I go on? I'm not a Stones hater by the remotest of means, they had some good albums, but their live act was musically lacking, as , like you say, IMO.
@@Mike_LaFontaine75 apparently you never saw or heard them live with Mick Taylor ...the 1972 Stones live were awesome.i just don't understand how you can have that opinion....I'm glad to hear your not a Stones hater..I don't understand how anyone could be..l also love The Who and Jimi Hendrix. The Cream is good too.i reckon you've probably never seen Ladies and Gentleman The Rolling Stones or heard the Brussels Affair..I saw them in 2015 and it was awesome
