I find it so interesting that even people who played acnh first have gone back to the older games in the series, especially since some people even end up preferring them!!! Wild world was the first and only other animal crossing game I played, so it makes sense for me to go back and play it. But the fact that people are finding consoles and games secondhand for something they’ve never tried before shows just how valuable the personality of the characters and the gameplay is! I think the aesthetic aspects are easily advertised and involve no risk. Adding new gameplay, better characterisation, and just giving the devs more freedom and room for creativity involves a lot more risk than just giving people more design options. I think they just want these games to continue being a reliable cash-grab and that will be the death of them if they’re not careful
I’ve said this over and over. The Sims 4 and ACNH have the same issues. I’m not very creative and very gameplay oriented. I’m also an OG player of both Sims (starting with sims 2) and AC (GameCube and ACNL). I have been highly dissatisfied with the direction of both franchises and had stopped playing both for a while. I recently restarted my ACNH island and started a new ACNL town. I also am saving for a gaming PC to be able to play sims 2 and 3.
Like you, I have played and enjoyed previous games of both franchises but I ditched TS4 completely (I just don't enjoy it as much as TS2&3 and DLC madness) and didn't touch ACNH in months. And like you, I have come to the conclusion both games are somewhat similar. They look pretty but are lacking in substance for me. I really wanted to like ACNH but it isn't my type of game or what I enjoy in AC. It does actually scare me because I wonder about the future of TS and AC. Apart from that, there seems to be hope for life sims in general because of several indie titles that look promising. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad for anyone who can enjoy TS4 and/or ACNH. I'm actually sad that I can't because I love both franchises, just not the most recent entries.
Hey Corie, thanks for commenting! I am also at a point where I have basically ditched Sims 4 - I haven't even downloaded or watched much content on the infants update. I also haven't picked up ACNH in months, but I'm considering giving it another go in a video soon to see if I can find some of the joy in it again. I really feel you with what you mentioned at the end there, I also deeply wish that I could enjoy both series' newest entries like other players do - with the sims 4 that has really manifested in how much DLC I've bought for the game over the years, only to have it now gathering dust on my PC. I am very intrigued (and slightly scared) to see the direction games like these go in in the future, here's hoping that EA / Nintendo can create more well-rounded games going forward :)
@@YasminsCorner I actually want to give ACNH another go to, too. I think this is because of your videos 😄. Hope we can still have a bit of fun and yes, I do hope the next AC game will go a bit back to the roots (I'm still disappointed by villagers and the lack of shops/shop upgrades tbh) and Nintendo will take the criticism serious.
