Arcade Fire's third album 'The Suburbs' came off the back of two indie rock beasts in 'Funeral' and 'Neon Bible'. When it was released in 2010 it took a while to settle in but it eventually revealed itself to be a thoughtful record that rewarded repeated listens.
In this video, I explore how Win Butler and Regine Chassagne's childhood in the 'burbs inspired the album's strong theme, how songs like 'We Used To Wait' toyed with our sense of nostalgia, why their unexpected Grammy win created a meme and much more!
I saw Arcade Fire only once when they headlined Leeds Festival in 2010 just a few weeks after the album came out. They were on straight after the Libertines who had just reformed and it was a spectacular and emotional doubleheader that I will always remember.
What is your favourite Arcade Fire memory? Did you see them live back in the day?
