Japan is full of Abandoned homes. As a foreigner, if they're cheap enough, can you buy one? I'm going to share with you why there are so many abandoned homes and why you probably can't or shouldn't buy one even if you could.

Also there may not be only 1 owner of the land. In our past experience we owned a house, inherited from my hubby’s mom, with land being owned by 11 different people and 1 part was owned by 1 person but the rest of the land was owned by the other 10. Even when we wanted to add on to the house, which we paid for the add on and was not inherited, we had to get permission from all the land owners, they have to all agree, which we did get thank God! Then when we sold the house we had to get permission from the land owners do so and they had to have approval over who could purchase the house too. We lost $40,000 dollars out of the $100,000 we sold the house for due to crazy realtor laws. It really is difficult I totally agree.

@@MutekiMatt I like the beaches and the foods but the main problem of our country is very low salary.

That was really insightful. Nevertheless I hope that some of those mid-century modern Okinawa homes will be preserved...

Do they have any problems with squatters moving into abandoned buildings.

That's a good question. I'm not sure actually.

Very interesting. You can live somewhere for years and have no equity. Can landowners evict homeowners? If homeowners can't find their land owner, who are they paying?

If you're renting the land you're paying the owner and probably know how to get a hold of them. It's just hard to find the owner if you see some land you'd like to buy. Yes, they can evict you unfortunately.

Good subject. Most videos on this subject gloss over the finding the owner part. Maybe because it’s traumatizing in how difficult it is. And also tedious to make a video about asking other people if they know who lived at “that house”. Probably makes Murder she wrote seem as exciting as MMA in person. 😱
