Why there are so many crashes involving motorcycles on the sea to sky highway 

I have been riding over 40 years and the only time I have crashed was when a bloody dump truck came over the line in a blind corner and I was lucky to have been able to avoid him. Had I been going faster I probably wouldn't have been so lucky. I love riding. Its in my blood, but I know what can happen and therefore don't take chances. Never, it isn't worth it.

They think their invincible, meanwhile you can get hurt (or worse) so easily. I had an awesome instructor starting out and rode safely for many years, but the thought of getting into a bad one got the better of me eventually and called it quits. Meanwhile my dad is 70, still takes his bike out for a ride every once and a while 😁

Actually I am in the right here. I was passing, cars in the right lane traveling at well over the posted speed myself. So I was doing exactly what the left lane is for. On this highway it is not a restricted passing lane (keep right except to pass) it is an unrestricted fast lane (slower traffic keep right). Passing on the right is illegal 100% of the time. No matter how right you think you are overtaking on the right is a ticketable offence that carries a big fine and penility points. Driving faster than the traffic in the right lane does not. Hopping back and forth to pass a single car is also dangerous. I am normally in the right lane unless I am passing. It just happens that the clips I chose for this I picked shots when i was on the left as the scenery was better than looking at the back end of a trailer or truck. Regardkess the idiots on the murdercycles came up so fast that if i can attempted to change lanes there would be a bunch of dead bikers and guess what i would have been in the clear and getting a bee car because it would have certainly been written off and I have replacement insurance. I was 100% in the right here as always and the bikers on the wrong. Incidentally just a little way up the freeway they got popped for excessive speeding. If you watch the full video you will see them all pulled over and about 4 unmarked cop cars at the side of the road.

I will be putting up a few ultralapse videos o shot this day. Canyon hope to Lyton. Highway 12 between lyton and liloette and highway 99 down Duffy lake road through Pemberton, whistler, Squamish and into west Vancouver. Going to do them as separate releases so they aren't too long. Shot in 4k. Nice twisty roads perfect for a bike ride. Will likely take my bike on this run this month.

Not hogging left lane. Passing other cars coming 20 over the posted speed while passing. That is what left lane is for. Go look at the full video and you will see i am in right except when passing. You can't judge from opening sequence as when voice over was done those shots is city limits in 60k zone where left lane is used. On the freeway portions I am in left lane only when passing. Go watch the full length version then get back to me know if all. The bikers were 100% in the wrong and one almost ended up under my car.

@@12voltvids What?? You were in the left lane for the entire video and made no attempt to stay right. You're supposed to drive in the RIGHT lane as consistently as you are in the left, then move left to pass when you catch up to someone in front of you, and then as soon as the right lane is open again - move back right. Keep right except to pass. When you drive like how you do, you force anyone who wants to go faster than you to pass you to the right.

@@brianpeck697 actually i wasn't in the left lane unless I was passing. It is just the shots used I was passing or following others. Also know the local laws before you open your mouth and put your foot in it. In bc only highways with speeds over 80kmh you are required to stay in the right lane except when passing unless there is a sign that specifically says keep right except to pass. On 80k and under the sign reads slower traffic keep right. That means that the left lane is a travel lane and you are permitted to drive in it all day providing you are not holding anyone up. These daredevils came up so fast that any attempt to move over would have resulted in about a dozen dead bikers. You can see that I am following other vehicles also legally in the left lane as we were all passing slower traffic in the right lane. Now if it was a 90 or 100 or 120k zone such as highway 1, 5 or the 100k section of 99 then you are correct that is a keep right except to pass but the sections that the video in this clip was shot was not those sections. If you watch the long version where i time lapsed the entire trip you will see i am indeed in the right lane except when i was passing.

Bzzt wrong. Most bike crashes on that highway are 100% the bikers fault.

My bike goes on the road about March or April. I do the Whistler run at least once a year. Duffy Lake road is also a very nice ride. As is hope Princeton run. I like hope Princeton because much less traffic than coquahala. A few times a year I leave my place at about 10, ride up to Princeton for lunch turn around and ride home in time for dinner.

@@timsretirementjourney8323 They are fantastic to drive, at the speed limit so you can take in the scenery. I ride a big Harley, so I am not in any hurry to get anywhere.

@@12voltvids it would be nice checking out the BC scenery on a big touring bike like yours. Mine's an old sport touring (1988 Suzuki Katana 1100 that came with Suzuki's Krauser factory luggage). Although it'll move if I want it to, I find myself shifting at very low revs, and generally cruise at no more than 10 - 15 km over the limit these days. Once in a while I still run the revs up there in the first 3 gears when a lack of traffic permits, ... just to remember what it used to be like. ;)

@@timsretirementjourney8323 Oh the Harley will move. It will do 200 kmh without breaking a sweat but i don't drive it like that. I want to make it home at the end of a ride. I rarely go more than. 10 or 15k over and only to maintain distance between me and the guy riding my bumper.

Actually I am perfectly in my rights to travel in the left lane as it is not a keep right except to pass segment. I was traveling with other traffic also going the same speed (over the speed limit i might add) all overtaking traffic in the right lane. It is 100% illegal at all times to overtake anyone in the right lane and had i attempted to change lanes when I saw the idiots approaching which was about 1 second before they went around on the right there would have been a bunch of dead bikers on the road so I just stayed put. This is not a continuous video. It is segments put together. I just happened to select shots where I was in the left lane overtaking for the voice over. If you watch the full time lapse version. You will see that i am, in fact in the right lane unless I am overtaking others and the bikes were just lucky they whipped past me where i was as I was just going to move back over when i over tool that last car that they swooped in front on. A few seconds later and i may not have seen them going around on the right and there could have been yet another pile up of dead organ donors. I ride a bike too and have seen my share of dead idiots driving that road and been caught up in the resulting road closure and sit for hours getting eaten alive by mosquitoes while the clean up crew scrapes up the dead bikers remains from the pavement.

Lots of crashes with these daredevils. I actually witnessed such a sitsuation about 10 years ago. I was riding my Harley in the right lane and there was traffic in both. About a dozen of those ninjas came flying up like that and passing on the right. A startled driver after a few flew past changed lanes and one of the back riders went under his car. I will never forget that scene. I was so shaken up by it that I parked my bike for the rest of the season. Seeing someone head going one way while the rest of their body if going the other way. Not something anyone wants to see. The highway was closed for hours and the police had to interview everyone. His buddies probably didn't even know what happens behind them. When i saw these guys coming up fast I stayed put. After the accident I called home to tell the wife there had been an accident. There was no cell coverage where it happened and she had already heard about a fatal MC crash on the s2s. When i got cell coverage I called home. Since I do not ride in the dark it made for a long trip home. The highway was shut down for over 6 hours. I was eaten alive my mosquitos and black flys. Not fun. In hind sight I probably should have just did a little off roading and got around the wreck and got out of dodge but stuck around as a witness. Plus i was a little shaken up. It happened literally right in front of me so i was doing the panic stop to avoid being caught up on it. Just thankful that the guy behind me was paying attention.

I ride. Have since I was 7 on a dirt bike on my uncles farm. Been street riding since the day I turned 16. Have had 7 street bikes. Honda, can-am, Yamaha and a Harley. Have ridden well over 160,000 km. For me it us always safety before anything else. Being a biker, when I drive my car I am always aware of the bikes on the road and give riders lots of space. I wish all 4 wheelers did this as I get people climbing up on my fender all the time and that forces me to speed to put distance between me and them.

I have seen a few crashes on this highway. It is one of the rides I do a few times a year on my Harley at around the speed limit. (Go with the flow of traffic) and I tell you nothing pisses me off more than getting eaten alive by black flies or mosquitos plus having to ride home in the pitch black because one of these idiots has killed himself and the highway is shut down for 5 or 6 hours while they clean up the mess. That has happened to me twice in 3 years and it isn't fun either being stuck in the sun sweating like a pig, or being eaten alive. At least in a car you can wait it out with air conditioning on a bike you roast. Not fun. Not just bikes though. Last time someone wrecked a rented Lamborghini and the highway was closed for hours.

Passing on the right is illegal and dangerous. I have see my share of bad accidents from my news shooting days. Yes i worked as a stringer (freelancer) for BCTV and CBC for many years. I have seen my share of bad wrecks involving bikes and stunt driving. I saw one where the biker lost control of his bike flew through the window of a car killing not only himself but 3 small kids in the car his body and bike cut through. All for some thrills and showing off

Actually I wasn't. Only when I was overtaking others. Also here in bc you are permitted to travel in the left lane except where there is signage excluding travel in the left lane. Generally the rule is slower traffic keep right. As I was overtaking traffic in the right lane and was exceeding the speed limit and not impeding traffic I was in my rights to be there. The suicidal bikers going in excess of 200kmh were 100% in the wrong. What do you think would have happened had I changed lanes? I didn't even see them coming till they illegally flew past me on the right. You only saw excerpts of the entire video. I was in the right lane except when passing, but I was passing on this segment. I was going to change lanes when I passed that last car when all the bikes passed. A few seconds later and I would have changed and there would have been a bunch of dead bikers on the road. They were 100% in the wrong, not me.
