Would like to see a front facing dingo design as well for comparison, the iconic "ears up stare" would be a more intimidating look that isn't the same as the logo (which I think looks great btw). Good job!
The Tassie guernseys looks amazing. Not sure about those Darwin ones though. I think you could do better. I like the Coke sponsor at the back though. Looks great with the red background.
Hey Matt N, I had an idea for a video that might be good for you channel since you like to do theoretical AFL stuff. Could you come up with a 2nd home ground for all 19 teams in the AFL? We already have the Bulldogs in Ballarat, Gold Coast in Darwin but what could other teams be? Brisbane in Cairns? Adelaide in Mt Gambia? Essendon in Mildura? Heck, bring back St Kilda in Wellington?
The only way the NT get a team is if it’s a combined team with Cairns, Townsville and Alice Springs I don’t think it’ll happen even if I did there’s to many avenues to failure it’d fall apart faster than it was put together. I think Canberra is the go people think it’s not an AFL if there’s no NT I disagree I think it’s not really the AFL without our capital having a team!
How about doing a Canberra footy team jumper using the ACT colours. In the 1979 State of Origin carnival they wore yellow with a blue yolk. If a team was Joondalup WP what colour jumper? or about South West or South West Peel.
I wouldn't really say the NT is the "obvious choice". Darwin only has 140k people! If you do one for Canberra, I reckon blue and green, representing the lake and bush capital.
Can we please stop talking about Darwin being the 20th club? As much as i myself would love to see the top end included, logic (not emotion) suggests the population just isn't there. And another factor that often goes overlooked is that much of Darwin's population isn't locally born and are only there on short to medium term basis. They're usually happy to call Darwin home for a few years working for the mining companis or military postings, but they're also happy to leave (to put it nicely) once their time up there is up. Not to mention that half of those short-term residents come from the other side of the Barassi Line. Good luck trying to convince them to so much as show up to an AFL match for free let alone signing them up as club members.
They should ditch the "Giants" moniker also...so American. Make them the Goannas; a brilliant Australian animal...then they wouldn't have to ditch the "G" from the jumper.
@@naf1566 But Goannas begins with a "G" So no jumper change needed. I really don't like "Giants" as a name/mascot. The San Francisco Giants NBA franchise already existed and to me Giants is derivative and so (gulp) unAustralian. Just my take.
20th AFL team is gonna be in Perth as the AFL won't want the NRL gaining a share in the WA market with the Perth Bears entering in 2027. Same thing happened when the Western Reds were announced as an expansion side in 1992, Freo were created not long after
Not to be cocky, but I wouldn't be much concerned about an NRL club starting up shop in Perth. The Western Force have more to be worried about than the AFL. Union is dying a slow and painful death in this country. And after the Melbourne Rebels have now folded, the Force will likely be the next inline, especially if a new NRL club AND a third AFL club arrives in town. I honestly thought the Rebels were going to be the Storm's worst nightmare when they arrived in 2011. Turns out I was wrong. That's my objective opinion. I think it's sad to see Union fade away, and particuarly very sad for Melbourne losing its Union niche. But it is what it is.
@eddielong8663 The NRL is miles ahead of Union in Australia in the moment. Also the AFL isn't worried about the NRL taking over WA or anything, but they could get a slice of the pie, a slice that could've been the AFL's
White jumper would be a disaster. They need green or gold... even consider lighter and darker shades of green. Once the side gets cute with white jumpers and different designs they will look less like a Tasmanian team. The further they move away from all green and that fantastic map then the more people that will return to their former Victorian teams. It must rely very heavily on Tassie colours, nicknames and everyone's favourite map.
Have to disagree on the green being either a darker or lighter shade. Heck, if I had my way, I'd drop the bottle green and instead make it a more standard green that's obviously green and proud to be that colour. I don't much like cartoony-looking outfits either, but I really don't like what some people might regard as "subtle" shades of certain colours when it comes to sports team uniforms. I hate the way the Dockers have now darkened their purple to the point that it might aswell not be purple anymore at all (as if they're embarrassed by being associated with purple and hence trying to hide it as much as they can without completely killing the club's original identity), and I also think the Power's minimisation of the teal in their current outfit is crap. Bold colours are the best. Otherwise don't even bother with colour at all I say. I would say the now defunct VFL Tasmanian Devils club had a good outfit. Primarily bold green with touches of black and yellow. Or maybe swap out the yellow for white to match the animal's black and white. They should cut out the red too. Enough clubs sport red already. Boring.
@@eddielong8663 I mean that the away jumper should play with lighter shades of green, and not just go white or another colour straight away. They need to keep strong Tasmanian themes in their jumper and logos. Otherwise people will just go back to their original AFL team, especially in the north who have been hosting Hawthorn. Also with the team based in Hobart it won't take much for people to not barrack for it.
@@eddielong8663 Agree totally with Fremantle who have dropped purple and gone with a navy colour. Got rid of green and red and anchor and maritime themes. Why call them Dockers if they're not proud of the Fremantle historic heritage and symbols. Even their retro jumpers in recent years have gone quite a bit darker than the original. Their striped panel and anchor jumper was so dark that from back view they actually looked like Collingwood. Because you could see white stripes, but from a distance the dark purple and dark green looked really dark. Purple is their brand. You don't see LA Lakers get rid of purple and yellow. They wear the colours with pride.
@@eddielong8663 I'm hoping they keep the famous royal blue and gold at the Eagles. The all blue is such an iconic Eagles look. As is the yellow jumper with blue shorts, but the AFL never allow it.
@@eddielong8663 Port Power has tried under Kochy to drag the club back to Port Adelaide history. They are mainly black and white. They want to wear stripes. They are called "Port" and not "Power" anymore. Logo moved away from lightning bolt and you have the old PAFC and striped pattern.
Darwin needs to acknowledge the indigenous folk with the name, if that is the reason why the team is going to exist. To promote indigenous affairs... Dingoes will become Drongoes. Darwin Elders is a sensible and meaningful name. The song can come from "Music from the Elder". Plenty of possible tracks that would sound classic be it Mr Blackwell, Dark Light or Under the Rose. But it won't happen. If you want to help indigenous. Then invest in NT league and increase player payments and standard.
