Once you know how to play this thing it’s actually really fun. The HEAT shell lolpens everything and I rack up at least 1000 score from spotting. Good tank if played correctly.

Some minor correction. The tank was primary designed to support creating bridgeheads at water areas. This vehicle was not only capable to swim on rivers and lakes but also in the ocean. Additionally, while swimming, the tank could transport troops on top of it. Scouting was a secondary use of it, but was not very good at it.

Why's the Maus matched with modern era tanks? Uh, balancing ofc.

This tank is awesome in trolling your team mates. Just turn on the smoke as soon as you spawn and start racing to the first cap points. The tears will be massive.

I remember when this vehicle had no scouting ability, and had 2 large canisters on the back of the engine deck so you couldn't depress the gun from behind.

Tip… when you go to water you dont became an easy target, if you are playing rb, literally no one looks at water for enemy soo unless you shoot at everywhere and nonstop move and splash water everywhere you are invisible and they cant see you till you shoot like 5 times

the negatives of this tank dont really outweigh the ammunition at that BR. You can say all the same things about the no-armor german TD line, and this thing is much faster, is closed so no MG kills, has better shells, has a stabilizer, and has a smaller profile than the equivalent open top vehicles of any nations.

I actually use the Amphibious capability for my advantage Alot, like once in that Map in Berlin with the water way, there were spawn campers, so I jumped in the water and flanked them from the rear to eleminate them

PT76B should be BR 7.0-7.3 but cost almost nothing to spawn. Maus should be 6.7-7.0 but cost all your spawn points. I'm sick of seeing vehicles in eras they shouldn't be in.

as a jumbo player i give great respect to the pt-76. i will charge tigers and even panthers because i know i can take the shots but the pt-76 is something i watch for

It's balanced for its tier. It has long reload, slow muzzle velocity and very bad armor. Unlike the Swedish IKV91, that thing is stupid broken at 6.7.

This light tank quickly became my most played ground vehicle in the game while grinding every nation around 5.3-7.0 but I started playing after it got its reload heavily buffed.

Without the heat ammo, the tank is useless. I scouted a lot of Tanks to get it. Because the stockround is doing nothing. Now im giggling everytime i set a Tiger on Fire. 😁

Actually, the PT-76 was not designed as a scout vehicle it only became one through chance. The Soviets needed a vehicle for one of the biggest problems they had in what they call The Great Patriotic War. This was river crossings. The Nazis as they fell back would fortify rivers turning them into wet moats covered by automatic weapons and cannon. Not only did this make the attacking troops targets but also slowed them so tactical air and artillery forces could attack them. As such they needed an amphibious gun vehicle that could fire up from the water to engage point targets and breakthrough river crossings to create a bridgehead. The huge amount of casualties the Soviets suffered in these crossings made them come up with solutions to this problem, the PT-76 being one. When you understand this most of the frankly odd design choices make sense. The large thin hull was designed to be large so as to displace enough water to create flotation and the thin armour kept the weight down to keep the vehicle amphibious (as mentioned in the video). The gun choice, a variant of the 76mm gun that was actually retired from service at the time was chosen as the desired automatic 57mm gun weighed too much and didn't carry enough ammunition. The hull for that vehicle would have been twenty tonnes and have a huge, impractical hull (this is why all the amphibious vehicles are so large like the BMPs). Originally the gun had 0º gun depression, only altered to -4º later, as the weapon was supposed to fire from the water. The large, weakly armoured hull was mainly designed to be below the waterline leaving only the small turret exposed. At the time it was designed HEAT shells would generally detonate on contact with the water without creating a sufficient jet to penetrate the even weak armour and no light tank could survive the 90mm weapons the West was fielding at the time. All the equipment such as radios were moved down into the hull below the water line. Finally, the commander's station made him the gunner, something totally unsuited to the role of a scout and he actually had less periscopes of lesser capability than the T-54 which makes the T-54 in fact a better scout vehicle, something the Main Battle Tank concept encouraged. A final note: the commander's observation sight and the gun sight are not linked, meaning that the commander had to switch from sight to sight that may be looking in different areas making this vehicle an extremely poor tank hunter. True scout tanks such as the M41 Walker Bulldog ate these poor things alive. So, why did it end up scouting? Essentially soviet combat doctrine changed and its role was enlarged until the scout version of the BMP-1, the BMD-1 (which is a lot like a BMP-2 and often confused as one), was brought in. It was also given or sold to other nations who, not having a huge army that could afford such specialist vehicles such as the PT-76 forced them into scouting roles the PT-76 is utterly unsuited for. The odd little PT-76 soldiers on until this day but doing solely what it was designed for; contesting amphibious operations.

Wait, that shit has stabilizer, autoloader and cHEAT-FS at 5.3? It's exactly like a Comet, except better in literary everything.

Best thing of it too is that its the earliest tank that have a two-plane stabilizer.

This is my top-played tank with a 60% win ratio. I have 800 realistic battles in it, and I have top-tier russian tanks, too. It's fucking amazing if you know how to play it.

The PT wasn't designed to be used as a scout but of an amphibious tank. Its focus was on getting over rivers and heading a beach landing

Also of note... mastering this tank makes grinding the BMP-1 slightly less painful where opponents get even tougher... all for the final end of line BMP-2 where things get very deadly, but you are surprisingly so as well. BMP-2 can cut through tanks like cheese once apds rounds are researched. All those light tank tactics, tricks, and map knowledge transfers very nicely into high tier where MBTs play just like light tanks due to mobility and penetration making reliance on armor almost nonexistent.

This is a vehicle that doesn't seem to technologically farfetched compared to vehicles of WWII, there were very primitive sabot rounds near the end of the war, and and amphibious vehicles weren't unheard of (Schwimmwagen, for example). Realistically, if the USSR wanted to put something like this into production in time to invade Germany, they could've done it. Similar to the ASU-57, the technology wouldn't have been unobtainable.

I wonder if War Thunder will ever acknowledge the existence of a thing known as FFF (Forest Fire Fuse). It does exactly what you expect - limits detonation against bushes, requiring proper surface to activate.

realistically this shit should be 4.7. 200mm of pen but it's a HEAT round which half the time does shit damage, that if it doesnt blow up prematurely because it hit a fence. it's slow, large, no armor, 10 second reload and it cant even depress the gun AT ALL. the fact that it was made in the 50s doesn't make it any good.

I love this tank. Though I wish there were maps where swimming would actually mean anything.

Once you acquire the CHEAT-FS shell it's hella fun to frontally pen some heavy tanks, completely nullifying their armour, even on a uptier. (6.7)

Ive had this idea before , but tho it seems cool I see where it could have problems. Maps with natural choke points. Lets say the Rhine map , would have another version of it. It being 2 sides of the river. Its always a battle map AKA both teams have one point each that has to be captured. You have to cross a bridge to capture the other side of the map. In these maps , tanks who can float would have something to do , tho again they would be REALLY easy to kill , yet with good cover , they would be able to flank entire enemy teams.

Off topic, they need to trim the American tech tree some. It has one too many 75mm Shermans. Going from tier 2 to 3 the first medium tank you research, the M4A2 is a nearly identical copy of the one you are trying to get past. It's redundant and there is nothing about it that justifies it's higher battle rating. It's wasted motion.

This is exactly why WT needs a "historical" game mode, basically RB but with maps and tank match ups that are historically real. As well as just, more game modes overall, where it's not just 10v10 with random tanks...

Because the stabilizer is not a second generation, PT-76B has a first generation stab 2 plane rotation support, it is simply not worthy of facing the top dogs

With the new over pressure and hull break this tank is absolute pain.

I think this tank is a “late bloomer”. It sucks to play it on 5.3, but on 7.0 it gets much more useful. There are more light tanks which are easier to one shot with the heat shell. Also, unarmored SPG’s die from hull break from the heat shell. I constantly face BMP1 on this BR and their gun ballistics are worse than PT76B, which can also hull break BMP’s

Personally i hated this vehicle. It was very hard to use it as a tank i was used to on 8.0. But then i learned that this is sniper and it was ok to use it then.
