So we took a close look at this newly introduced New Republic Cruiser, and we finally figured out what the purpose of it is. Despite being lightly armed and not that intimidating to look at, this reflects an extremely smart design choice and change in naval policy from the imperial and republic era. Whoever put this ship together understands the fundamental challenges that the New Republic Navy is facing.

mc30c type, if it had a love child with some of the CIS capitals involved... the design isnt just good... but it has that level of overkill there. im not seeing too much on it. but this makes everything prior look bad.... even the starhawk may not be capable of keeping up. this thing is odd, but damn good, and ill go with scary. starship vs with this, and alot... we need exacts... good video on this!!! this is a lean boxer... isd 2 wouldnt stand against it, if manned to full... it looks to quick. It may have the overlapping shields, but it still seems too small... but swol??? hrmph. some of that may just be extra plating... but this is rather brutal by design. dont get me wrong... i do not think she is wasting any space.... sorry to rant, but its good and terrifying all at once.

@@jeffengel2607 early Mon Calamari capital ships that were used by the rebels could only be used by the Mon Calamari people. After the battle of Endor and when the Rebellion started to construct dedicated warships, they created those ships to be piloted by just about any species in the galaxy, like humans. Models like the MC80B and the MC90 star cruisers are two such warships.
@daniels7907
@daniels7907 Год назад
One thing that occurs to me about New Republic demilitarization is that this would be *very* bad for major shipyard systems (Corellia, Kuat, etc.) and the Senate might have had to agree to acquiring new ships or else face a collapse of their shipbuilding industry. But, not wanting to get sucked into the expense black hole of the ISDs and MC-80's, they came up with a smaller design that would have the additional advantage of visually distinguishing the NR fleet from the Imperial fleet. Smaller, friendlier, warships.
@granatmof
@granatmof Год назад
Honestly when you consider the "Light freight" class of starship which are readily weaponizeable, it would really make sense for large Republic vessels to be built around a modular chassis. Strip away the armor and guns and rearrange some bulk heads na interiors space and they can be transporter cargo ships works. It may not be the most robust of war fighters, but for peacekeeping forces, you want cheap efficient systems for exerting pressure, nit overt miliary action. The more a particular frame is produced, the cheaper it is to build and maintain.
@blackc1479
@blackc1479 Год назад
Lol "smaller friendlier warships". I can actually hear them pitching it that way. Agreed about the Shipyards, the NR would have had to always plan to keep them grooving along for the noted and many other reasons. Switching to smaller, lighter (and friendlier) ships would be a win for everyone. The yards get many more fast, simple builds, improving ease of construction, dock availability, plus a smaller but much steadier income stream. (Smaller paycheck everyday, vs one big one a year) The NR gets all the good stuff noted here and in the vid.
@blackc1479
@blackc1479 Год назад
@granatmof I get where you're coming from on this, but even trying to be "demilitirized" they would have to keep a first tier response available. I'm kinda thinking of the whole yhevetha story arc. The folks who are going to get thrown into the blender are going to demand some kind of professional option. But the politicians are going to try to keep it as small as possible to try to stay on message. So a big fleet of small ships is a good compromise. Though the modular idea would be great to pitch to systems etc. They could have a standing fleet of ships that could swing between coast guard, q ship, and in downtime and emergency be turned into liberty/relief ships. Plus the yards would no doubt be happy to sell a "mini-refit" station to help switch modes. Always gotta upsell lol

On tie fighters, my theory was that the Empire did not trust its pilots. If they had warp capable ships, then they could steal the ships. If you deploy the tie fighters, you know they will defend the Star Destroyer with their life, as it is there only trip home. Also, being a big corporation, the Empire went for quantity over quality.

It's not a question of trust but a doctrine and intended use - TIE fighter is a very capable craft despite how they show in movies. Yes they do lack shields but shields are not a game changer on starfighter in SW universe - x-wing's shields can hold for 1-2 seconds under fire from a single TIE fighter. Shields do provide a better survivability but only against light flack or random shots. You should also consider that after end of clone wars there were no manor armed conflicts of such scale for several generations. Rebellion posed a terrorist treat and was not easy to find, but not an enemy in direct confrontation. 99% of empire navy have never seen a single rebel and were doing patrol, peace keeping and anti-piracy activities in millions of worlds across the galaxy. In most anything more than a TIE was just an overkill and as result just wase of money for empire. And empire added more capable crafts as rebellion treat increased. TIEi, TIEa, TIE defender and many more. Most of them were plain better than rebel alternatives in each and any aspect

Someone using a jedi code does not mean they are a jedi or even force sensitive. My guess is: the captain assumed someone without any ability to use the force stumbled over that old code and tried to use it in order to swindle the republic. Which (considering how rare trained force users are in that period) probably would have been correct at least 9 out of 10 times. The security detail would have been sufficient to detain any imposters pretending to be jedi.
@Dreamfox-df6bg

Considering he was carrying an important prisoner, this security detail wasn't enough. That ship could have carried an elite team or be full of regular soldiers. It could fire any weapons, which might be hidden, it has inside his ship or, as mentioned in the video, it could even be a bomb. This could have been anything, from a prank, to someone wanting to free his prisoner to someone who wants her dead. He should have 1. Ignored them and reported this encounter to fleet command or 2. deploy a fighter screen and send a security detail over to check it out while keeping his distance.

2:15 To be fair the Rebels heavily relied on special forces to win their battles, their actual foot soldiers were crap. Most of the troops we see in action during the movies have some sort of special status among the Rebels for different reasons, whether it be the Marines in Rogue One, Alderaanian royal guards in episode 4, rebel special forces in episode 5 and the pathfinders in episode 6 and in Rogue One. I am surprised we are still seeing many Mon Calamari in the fleet considering that they create a home defence fleet during this period. In fact that could explain the creation of these new hybrid cruisers, because the Mon Calamari are probably busy reorganising their own star cruisers and are probably still in the early stages of designing larger vessels we see in the Sequels, so they have provided a temporary design to keep the peace.

I know it was just an off-hand comment. However, I feel it made sense that the Empire concentrated its resources on big vessels like Star Destroyers since it ruled more through intimidation. Its focus was on keeping potentially rebellious planets pacified, as opposed to maintaining security against pirates and smugglers. There is a certain prestige and threat from seeing a single Star Destroyer, that isn't quite the same as seeing a few frigates. Sure, it can only be in a fewer places but like I said - the Empire ruled by intimidation. Knowing that the Empire has them and could bring one into your sector if it chose to, was sufficient.

Armed with two torpedo tubes on the front, a laser cannon in the middle, and the ability to deploy cluster bombs against fighters and bombers (in-game reference). She's more of a support ship than an actual fighting ship behind cover for allies to attack an enemy ship while MC30 launches its volley of torpedoes toward a ship's hardpoints. Have about maybe 20 of them... you will destroy maybe a small to medium defense force and a space station in one shot. Edit: Speaking of hangers in ships... I never get why so many Star Wars ships have these obvious weaknesses. In this one, it's the back third of the vessel. Assuming that the white plating is armor, the part of the ship that connects the thrusters to the rest of it is essentially unprotected once the shields fall. And it has the narrow connection design that the Nebulon-B frigate has as well, albeit shorter
@AW-ww5so
@AW-ww5so Год назад
Weapon emplacements are located at the top of the ship, there are about 8 at the top, so I would assume that some are on the bottom.

Theres also the fact that a smaller carrier generally means a faster and more manouvrable a ship - a light carrier like this can run away from heavier warships that a supercarrier like a venator couldnt evade.

One of the first things I noticed about Ahsoka is that all of the male characters are evil, overweight, or neutered (including the droids) and that all the New Republic uniforms are too fancy.

The Star hawk weapon only makes sense if it was meant to be the centerpiece of a battle group. Say a dozen smaller gun ships. So the Star hawk could arrest the enemies motion while the gunships move in for the kill. 2 would need to act as flank security for the hawk, while the other 10 could move in on the enemy’s flanks.

I still think the venator is both the best War and peace time ship, a basic patrol fleet of one ventator and 2 escorts could easily patrol a large number of systems with ease, it carries plenty of supplies for aid relief and huge numbers of fighters and with more modern new Republic weapons it would be more than able to take on larger pirate ships or remnant imperials or even newer threats

I would like to imagine something like this would make use of a large amount of hidden pdt systems paired with a large amount of missile tubes. Basically in a large scale battle serving as a fighter/ missile screen while being able to dump a large amount of torpedo's/missiles from both fighters and launch silos so that it would overwhelm and burst down larger ships. Or have the missiles serve as a large screening tool destroying several squadrons of fighters or smaller warships to allow your fighters to get the jump on a less defended capital ship. This would explain why there isnt really any visible weapons as the pdts would just be retracted under the hull while missile silos are just covered by physical blast sheilds.

12:39 "We don't even see any weapon emplacements..." 12:54 Shows us 4 weapon emplacements... they're just *very* small. So the ship has at least 4 point defense turrets, around the space traffic control tower.

The reason it is lightly armed might be that it's designed to be decommissioned and sold as a transport or cruise ship. Something that has post military utility so that when the New Republic DOES fully disarm they don't have dozens/hundreds of these new ships being scrapped without reason. Considering how long it's taken them to break up all the Imperial assets I'm willing to bet it was in the design plan... But it's bad for future of scrapper planets.

From the hangar bays it looks more like 24 fighters. 6 fighters per bay. Got to have room to move the fighters. And probably used for parts storage for the fighters. Also a repair Bay Area for the fighters.

To be fair to that captain, he was piloting a prison ship and he thought he was about to arrest some regular people pretending to be military officials. Space wizards aren’t exactly common in starwars.

Also, keep in mind crew sizes. When you see a crew size of hundreds, is that war time crew or peace time crew? Wartime crews can double peacetime crews since you need replacements for wounded, redundancy of systems ect.
