I applied for the AMEX Cobalt card yesterday. My credit is fair to good. I got approved with $25k credit limit! Will receive it in the mail in 2 weeks. Can’t wait!

Agree for the reward program but you still need a MC or Visa for smaller business who dont take Amex

Yes, I totally agree. I've made another video outlining my entire credit card portfolio and although AMEX is my primary choice for credit cards, I also carry my VISA with me at all times for moments like this!

I thought I’d have a lot of trouble using it in my area because I live in rural New Brunswick, but I’ve been able to use it way more than I expected, so I was pleasantly surprised. Thanks for your comment! 🙌

American Express Cobalt I don't fly, However I have it I use it when I can and I love it! I don't Fly but I do use it when I use VIA Rail and Taxi and as much as I can when I in Toronto or elsewhere when I can.

That’s great to hear! It’s got a low monthly fee, so I never feel pressured to use it like some people although it’s my #1 card I use whenever I can because of the great points multipliers! 🙌

Do Amex cards have foreign transaction fees for purchases in USD (assuming u get an Amex in Canada)?

There are some American Express Canada cards that have foreign exchange fees for purchases not in CAD. The Cobalt card is a card that does unfortunately, but since this is my everyday spend card, it outweighs that factor. If that’s a big factor for you, I would check out the cards that don’t have foreign transaction fees on the AMEX website. Great question! 🙌

The biggest thing to look at in my opinion is whether or not the places you shop at take AMEX. I live in a rural area and it’s not accepted everywhere, but most places I shop do. However, I was in Toronto last weekend and it was the only card I used. It’s definitely worth it and that’s why I’ve got 3 AMEX cards! 🙌

On their website it does not say 5 points on groceries... are you sure?

Hi Eric, great question - on the AMEX Canada website, there is a footnote “3” for the 5X Points on Eats and Drinks section. When you click that, it mentions “stand alone grocery stores in Canada” and from my experience, that’s the case. Getting 5X the points on food is a huge points multiplier for me! I can’t attach screenshots, but go check it out on your own and let me know if you have any more questions. It’s a great card for getting points! 🙌

Hey, nice video!!! I am an international student with a 750 credit score but just 4 months of credit age history. Do you think I can be accepted?

Thanks a lot! I have no way of knowing AMEX’s selection criteria, but my thoughts are a 750 credit score is higher than most Canadians, so it would make sense to approve someone in good standing. If you were applying for a card like the AMEX Platinum or Business Platinum, that might have harder time-requirements, but I’m just guessing. If you do apply, please use our link to support the channel if you feel like doing that! 🙌

Hi, you have a good chance of approval. I had the same credit score and same history, I got approved for it. If you don’t get approved instantly, just call them and clear any issues they have.

Wait so every year you can only earn up to 30,000 points?

Great question and the short answer is no, you can earn much more! By spending at least $500 each month, you get a bonus of 2500, which equals an extra 30 000 points in the first year. After that I said you can earn 5X the points for food purchases up to 30 000. I made a mistake and it’s actually up to $30 000, so this means if you maxed the food rewards out, you would get 5 x 30 000 which is 150 000 points just from good alone! This is why I love this card and I’m my first few months of using mine, I’m averaging 9600 points per month - that’s a huge difference compared to my other credit cards! 🤯
