if travel is the goal then yes cobalt to accumulate, aeroplan so the points don't expire but i would have a mastercard if you shop at costco which you should
@@Volfas get the rogers mastercard world elite card, if you are a rogers/fido/shaw customer, you get 2% cashback on all purchases including costco, and you can redeem for 1.5x against your cellphone/cable bill, for a no fee card, i think it's a no brainer
Food basics takes amex in my experience. Also if you want to put the bill on your card when eating out, offer your friends to cover the tip. Good luck all.
The Amex Platinum is not that great here in canada, FX fees and mediocore earning multiples honestly. If you travel a lot internationaly even just to the US, you are going to lose 2.5% on FX fees every time which definitley adds up. Amex lounges are great but only really available in north america with a few exceptions in London and HK, which means priority pass is really what you are going to be using. I think getting Scotiabank Passport Infinite is a great option becasue you get free passes for lounges and no fx fees. The US amex platinum is way better.
Airport lounges seem to be hit and miss. For me rhey seem to be closed when I fly, or under contraction with a temporary lounge that sucks. Or they are jam packed as it’s so easy to get access.
Hey Ricky Zhang how is the platinum Amex better than the Visa CIBC/TD Aeroplane infinite privilege? 1. You get free first bag check in for you and up to 8 others boarding with you 2. Priority Check-in, Priority Boarding and Priority Baggage Handling, again for 8 others boarding with you 3. Unlimited Maple leaf lounge access within Canada 4. Nexus credit 5. Preferred pricing and Aeroplan redemption when booking with Air Canada I dunno how you could possibly think the platinum card is better????!!!
So if you're not a renter then just stick with the cobalt and platinum? I'd also throw in a mastercard for Costco. Too bad the HSBC world elite mastercard is not available currently.
What your opinion about Travel Credit Card for Amex Aeroplan Reserve Card instead of the Platinum Card? I’m considering getting either one of Aeroplan Reserve or Platinum. So pls give your opinion.
Both are excellent cards. Choosing one over the other would depend on whether you mainly travel with Air Canada and Star Alliance partners, or if you don’t. The Aeroplan Reserve is great for perks with Air Canada, but doesn’t offer you many benefits when travelling with other airlines. The Platinum card gives you strong lounge access around the world, as well as other benefits like mid-tier status with some hotel loyalty programs.
Hi everyone-I was sad to hear that the HSBC World Elite MC has been suspended as I loved the extended out of Canada travel insurance - is there any current card that has coverage similar to the HSBC card?
Unfortunately, none of the current no-FX cards in Canada earn points that are transferable to airline partners like HSBC did. Here is our most recent article on the subject: princeoftravel.com/best-credit-cards/no-fx-fee/
Just Cancelled my Low interest HSBC rewards plus Mastercard (11.9% interest) after receiving a letter from RBC confirming my card will be replaced with their bottom ION card and interest will increase to 18% once I migrated end of March. I would recon run before RBC takes over your accounts. Too bad Feds sign off on this merger. HSBC has the best mortgage rates. Best travel card. All gone.
What is your opinion on the Amex gold vs cobalt. I primary want to rake in points for travel. I already have an TD aeroplan card but need a secondary card. Confused between gold vs cobalt. While the cobalt gives more points the welcome bonus on gold is better. Thoughts?
Hello there! As this comparison can get very in-depth, I highly recommend you to have a read of an article I have written before: princeoftravel.pulse.ly/55htru3nj3 Hope this helps!
You should have added the Scotiabank visa infinite passport card since it also includes points that can be redeemed for travel and does not have foreign exchange fees and includes lounges even if limited. Otherwise the cobalt is the best option for most people watching this video.
The travel perks for the VI Passport are great but it earn way less points than the Amex, e.g. 2X in groceries/restaurants vs 5X on Amex. The Scotia Amex Gold is a great option as well, the earns rates are similar to the Cobalt and it doesn’t have FX fees, no lounges access tho.
I have the card and the perks are amazing, but I wouldn't put my daily spend on it. I get it and the soctia amex gold for free so I put my spend on there primarily and the combo of the two is awesome!
We have written an article about this. Feel free to have a read. If the link doesn't work now, try later, we have some technical glitches at the moment: princeoftravel.com/uncategorized/head-to-head-amex-cobalt-vs-scotia-gold-amex/
Ooo I can’t wait to try out #2!! I’d love to know the best way to benefit from spending at Costco which doesn’t accept Amex since that’s where I spend the most monthly.
@@minglim12 Safeway and elsewhere. And there is a $10 activation charge. You'll have to do the math to determine if the points are worth more than $10 for you. Gotta pay to play.
most big grocery chains do not accept amex tho edit: as concluded from this thread, Walmart does accept amex but they are not considered "grocery" so no 5x and it seems that "only Loblaws and Costco" do not accept amex, so Metro / Sobeys DO accept it so it could work for you. some hacker in the thread suggested buying a "Costco" gift card from metro as a way of getting the multiplier before going to Costco side rant: why can't RBC have a good aeroplan card or a card that can turn into aeroplan points ?
@@DZB331 idk about Costco but loblaws and Walmart don't, if Costco too idk where u buying groceries. I know Sobeys with Scotia idk if they accept Amex there. And if you're shopping at metro you're not saving any money even with the 5x points
@@AnzorKhawaj the Walmart where I live accepts Amex and is 5x. I do 90% of my grocery shopping at Safeway, save on, nesters where it is all 5x and accept Amex. 10% at loblways where I use td aeroplan infinite
if ur only concern is cashback in costco, get the rogers mastercard and switch to rogers mobile or internet or somesort, then u can get 3% cashback. It's very underrated card in canada actually
I have the Tangerine World MasterCard with one 2% cashback set as Groceries. Costco doesn't count as groceries so you're only going to get 0.5% cashback.
@@PrinceofTravel thanks for the reply, I just got a long letter in the mail addressing “changes” to aeroplan a few weeks ago. Maybe they were reiterating the same rules as before or they haven’t changed significantly enough, Prince of Travel is my go to for updates, you put out the best stuff on aspirational travel.
Flight rules are essentially unchanged, it's only those who apply multiple cards get affected more. If they make some significant flight rules change, we will for sure update our content to reflect that
@@PrinceofTraveldid you make a video on these update to multiple cards? Is it lifetime points, like the US or once a lifetime for card level? Thats what I’m unsure about. Maybe you have a link of a video where you covered this already.
Aeroplan cards appear to be "Once in a lifetime" now according to aeroplan. Meaning, you can only apply for ONE aeroplan card only in your lifetime. Again, according to Aeroplan T&C. Nobody has tested this yet, as it wont go into effect yet.
I’m super unimpressed with Aeroplan - I just had my acronyms reset down to almost nothing - and the program is so complicated to understand and maximize
On the contrary, if it's too easy to understand for everyone, then everyone could redeem points easily. Would there still be seats left? Just a thought
many major and big youtubers, all have sponsored ads in their video, not even talking about random ads generated by youtube. You will have to unsubscribe many channels then if a channel have ads partnership or somesort lol
