When Mr. President Trump is re-elected with a House & Senate to back him, the so-called "elite" might once again return closer to the role of "public servants" .... but since the late 80's/early 90's, government employees think that they and ONLY they should run EVERYBODY'S lives. And because they've been getting away with it, "we the people" have devolved to actually being the "public servants".... serving them. Hopefully, upon DJT's election, at least 3 federal agencies will be defunded and at least 500,000 employees will be pink slipped. I hope he puts Vivek in charge of that operation! We'll see.

I was just saying to my roommate the other day, about 25% of my paycheck goes to taxes and the vast majority of that is going to federal. Seems like it should be the exact opposite, I’d rather my money be going to state and local tax. Federal has the most ppl to pull from.
I was born in 1961 my oldest brothers were born in 1946 and 48 and were in active combat in the Viet Nam war. I remember the tension in my parents and siblings around things happening in the war and when they would come home on leave. I also remember them telling me things as I got older of some of the horrors they saw and experienced. Children are aware of things you wouldn’t know, we feel it, it was on the 6:00 news and in our living rooms.
I was born in 1966 … and I do remember the Vietnam War and seeing it on TV in the early 70’s. I remember how returning soldiers were treated … nobody was welcomed home.
The war ended in 1975, making Joe 8 yrs old. I still remember in 1984 and 85 when the night stalker was serial killing in Los Angeles. I remember all the fear. I remember the news vividly, with his picture, etc. I was 5 yrs old.
I was born in 1969, and I remember reading about the Vietnam war in the newspapers. I remember this extremely well because one morning I was reading the newspaper and asked my father, who was also sitting there, where Vietnam was, but I did not know how to pronounce it. He and my mom both snapped their heads towards me in amazement because they had no idea that I had figured out how to read just from having them read to me constantly. They thought I was just sitting there with a newspaper in front of me out of imitation of them, maybe looking at the pictures. I also vividly remember a couple years later watching Nixon's resignation live on television as it happened. I am totally willing to give my elder the benefit of the doubt that he remembers what he says he remembers.

I live a middle class area and there are beggars at many street intersections and homless living in the woods behind where I work that were not there until the last 2 years. The unemployment rate reached 3.5 percent, the lowest in a half-century. Incomes rose in every single metro area in the United States for the first time in nearly 3 decades. It’s both parties fault, but many uneducated fools need to have a scapegoat to blame. Covid didn’t help, but we were getting here eventually anyway, and sooner than people think. Inflation and the cost of living versus salary has been at odds with each other for decades. This is the natural evolution of that. People just aren’t smart enough to realize it, even 17 years ago when the housing market crashed.
Inflation was a worldwide thing, caused by COVID and the Russia-Ukraine war. Biden lowered inflation quicker than any other western nation, which was impressive given he was rolling out his infrastructure bill to rebuild america at the same time. And he kept the reserve bank in check with lowering interest rates. Biden is a genius. Thje bloke impresses me more than i could have imagained.
To add context I’d like to refer to the situation blacks faced prior to the civil rights movement. In the deep South black Americans were being denied basic rights of citizenship under the constitution. This was codified by Jim Crow laws throughout the South. Meanwhile in the North much of this went unnoticed. It just didn’t register as a significant problem. What the civil rights movement did primarily is bring the obvious abuses to the attention of Northerners who then demanded action. Of course the result was the passage of the eighteenth and nineteenth amendments to the Constitution. Amendments that enshrined equal rights to all citizens of the country. Why I use this as an illustration is that unless you are the one who’s being abused by a corrupt system it can largely go unnoticed. Furthermore often times the only remedy for such injustice is rebellion against that system. Then as now the most powerful form of rebellion is not perpetuation of violence but civil disobedience. The disruption of the status quo.
