twitter is one of the most influential social media sites out right now. for a social media site with an impact as big as twitter, you would think musicians who go viral on this site would receive millions of streams and be recognized all over the world… well, that’s usually not the case. stan twitter specifically already know about this phenomenon, people who usually get viral tweets about how great they are, how great their music is, usually don’t see these people who are liking these tweets actually stream or buy their music. so why is this the case? today, we will be looking into this phenomenon of why twitter hype NEVER translates to streams or sales. spoiler alert: twitter is lying to you about what and who is actually relevant…
musicians have been using twitter as a way to promote their music for quite some time now, and stan communities have been formed as a result of this. nicki, katy, gaga, justin, kesha were early adapters of twitter, and their interactions shaped the way stan twitter operates today. but some musicians aren't able to get a transfer effect from their virality on twitter to streams or sales. artists like megan thee stallion, tinashe with nasty, chloe, raye with genesis, normani, and so many more.

It's honestly really embarrassing for these artists to receive millions of impressions and likes, but they can't even sell over ten k in pure sales within the first week(the majority). SMH LOL

A lot of Twitter/X OF models buy their fans. There are more bots and filler accounts. Some girls have 200K followers but 2-7K views per pic which is almost 30x there view counts. Just for posting softcore porn pics and videos.

It almost seems cruel to hype someone up so much and then immediately ditch them after they thought they had made it. It must be so demoralising for small artists who think they have gotten their "big break" only for their RU-vid videos to flop and their streams to be non-existent. It's painful to see but unfortunately, that's the Twitter community for you.

People that have been getting viral hate tweets (not just tweets, but videos, posts, etc.) since the beginning of their careers (Drake, Nicki, etc.) are some of the biggest and most influential people in their field. They’re respected in real life. If you don’t build your fanbase outside of the internet, you won’t make it outside of the internet, period. Also, i love the frutiger areo/frutiger metro + mcbling in the background 🤞🏾

honestly a part of this too is the fact that hit tweets only rlly get maybe 500k likes at most, which compared to insta or tiktok is nothing, and most of the ppl only are streaming once or twice, which is only 0.01% of a sale, compared to a big fanbase who buys physicals + stream 100’s of times.

megan is doing good, cardi was doing good as well, i think a important part of this debate people forget is the economy and our attention spans are way lower, a lot of artists from every genre are struggling hence why so many are going on tour unless you have a deeply embedded cult fanbase its hard for artists just like its hard for us regular everyday people

Though I agree what you said, one thing I will say about Tinashe specifically is that I’m honestly amazed that her fan base works so hard to help keep her relevancy up so much after she left RCA that was able to tour constantly across America and internationally as well. I know here in the US she’s not as big as the other artists are but overseas she is definitely recognizable and has inspired others through her craft. I believe overseas a pop band actually copied her without crediting her and it didn’t end well for that pop band

Idk why people overestimate twitter likes in relation to how they potentially contribute to streams. Even if we assume all the 100K people behind the likes of a viral tweet listened to a song for an average 15 times a week. That would only contribute to 1.5M streams in a week which is insignificant in today's mainstream pop. So unless the artist doing less than that, it doesn't make sense to state that twitter likes don't translate to streams.

twitter likes are indeed insignificant people like Nicki and Taylor for example get hate tweets almost daily many hitting 100k and even going up to 300k but that still did nothing while even someone like latto who beefed with nicki was getting more likes on her tweet during the feud compared to nicki and yet look at how she ended up doing, even today, her new album underperformed severely even bing outdone by ice spice. all those people who like the tweets do not stream and that's what he is saying wich is true, even Megan who was getting backed by the enrirety of stan twitter and roc nation, yet her album debuted with the same first week sales as her previous. stan twitter, esp black twitter only cares about you when ur beefing with Nicki which is why Hiss went #1, her tour overall sold badly and she cancelled her european dates due to unsold tix
