Let’s be honest, most RU-vidrs focusing on this scene talk about the same 10-15 artists and pretend that it’s the whole underground. It’s honestly just a microgenre that mostly terminally online kids listen to. Which is fine, but that doesn’t mean it’s the whole underground. I think being self aware of your own perspective is important on both sides.
Lollll fr like I’m a fan of the artists that are usually talked of and all but people act like that’s “The Underground” like maybe I just spend too much time consuming obscurist music to be in a society with people but honestly very few of online music commentators have even scratched the surface of anything niche. Honestly in their defense it’s hard to as we are in an age of music overflow but also not like they’re trying I mean people are just discovering Xavier so based which is awesome because I like him but he’s been on the music shit for like 4 years lol and people just now hip. Not to say people are late… well not entirely but basically I’m just drawing out my stance of agreement cuz people need to expand their taste palettes fr. Or not idec.
I’ve noticed that too, they’ll usually focus on rappers that are underground but aren’t completely off the radar to the public eye. I’ve never seen an underground channel ever mention shed theory or haunted mound which I’ll say is the most unorthodox and unique sounding groups right now. I feel like that side of underground is stuck, played out, and simplified almost poser like, no offense.
Exactly bro has listened to gl4, autumn, summrs slayworld etc on stream and loved them after the whole xaviersobased shit, its not his age, he just thinks his music is fucking ass, xaviersobased is trash
@@BagLift rap definitely has its lows but shit will never die we just get past a certain age to understand the new shit I alr know im finna be 70 hating on whatever’s new
I’m 30 and I’ve been listening to rap music longer than most people on this channel have been alive. It’s been crazy to see how much rap music has changed so much from when I was a kid to now. Every new generation adds something new and changes the culture. I fuck with the new wave of underground rappers. The same people who used to record themselves on flip phones doing the crank dat dance are now hating on the new generation of music. Full circle moment.
25 is old now?! Damn that's crazy. I graduated college and gotta job bro we can still have an opinion Lmaoo. At the end of the day, every generation gone say the new generation sucks because its not what they're used to, its been like that since the conception of rap (hell, music in general) and it will continue to be like that. I say, just let the kids rock and listen to what you like, and if you don't like just don't listen, there really is no need to hate on somebody just because you don't like them. I feel like everyone just being so competitive and think that if someone listens to one artist, they CAN'T listen to other artists but we gotta realize that people can listen to however many artists they want, Blue Ocean Strategy y'all, there is a market for anything if you make it. Crazy part is too, people calling 20 something year olds old don't realize people like Ken Carson, Destroy Lonely, SoFaygo, Ice Spice, Yeat, etc are all 22-24 years old 💀. Summrs, Autumn and them are even older.
These are all iPad kids. They grind their teeth and throw things. They’re also too stupid to realize that they don’t actually contribute anything to culture because they just go to school and live with their parents. They only like artists who they relate to, which are other terminally online cringe kids. So it’s no use explaining to them that everything they enjoy is made by and for people older than them. I was corny when I was a kid too, but I was never dumb enough to think my own little world is the same as everybody else’s.
I’m 26. I like that netspend song and I was apart of the OG SoundCloud era. I like all the new kids, Ken Carson was my most streamed artist this year, he’s my current favorite artist. Art is subjective and there’s no particular age for anything, just listen to and do what you like. I remember when I thought late 20s was old too😭😭
Your Rage would have an aneurysm trying to listen to black kray lol. And kray is literally 29, I guess how old or young you are doesn’t really matter in this case. It really depends on how you were raised and the environment you were around growing up because if you look at krays background he was surrounded by plenty of genres rock, rap, reggae, witch house etc he also skateboarded which was out of the norm, wore skinny jeans which were out of the norm during that time So compared to rage he definetly had a more diverse life than him which maybe made it easier for him to get into certain stuff since he had a open mind prepared for the new stuff to come since he practically made it.
bro has listened to gl4, autumn, summrs slayworld etc on stream and loved them after the whole xaviersobased shit, its not his age, he just thinks his music is fucking ass, xaviersobased is trash
I probably got one friend who kinda fuck with my typa music but if I was to recommend somebody like slime dollaz I could understand why someone would kinda be like wtf? But I love his shit tho some things are an acquired taste.
Exactly. Im a huge goth money fan and i also fw nettspend and xavier. I wish other people could enjoy all kinds of music like me. I even enjoy country music.
I’m 28. The older Fauni/Kray era of underground rap is my favorite, but I’ve been enjoying these newer artists too. Hearing Duwap’s influence on the new wave is cool. Lately been listening to Devstacks, Xavier, and SSGKobe. Started to tap into Phreshboy. Your vids have also exposed me to new artists. Been binging the video docs 🤝
@@hoassyoass2480 Exactly man. Cool seeing what sounds and styles are evolving. Each generation‘s artists are naturally selected by whatever resonates and pushes boundaries
this whole "Underground rap" thing is dumb. It's music nobody is too old or young to understand it they just don't won't to. The gatekeeping thing is weird asl
I feel like ppl hold on to whatever they liked when they were in highschool/college usually. It’s the same reason my parents love classic rock but not the rock of today ya know? They had time to dive into it and nothing but time when they were young, just like i had lots of time to listen to the artists i liked at that age. You build a deeper connection with artists that way.
as a older gen z who's 25 i realized a lot of the old heads who hate on the new gen sc wave wouldn't get it and even if they were younger they wouldn't get it or just ride the wave because its popular, for someone who's really trying to hear new sounds the underground will always have future stars who take inspiration from artist from the past so its very easy to get into when u actually ENJOY listening to new music
I'm 27 and have been listening to underground for a LONG time, it just has more going on and something new or weird and I fuck with that more than hearing the same shit over and over, I'm gonna be one of those Grandmas bumping to my grandkids shit for SURE.
underground is for every one, there's artists for young dudes and old heads in there and being underground represents creative freedom and experimentation, who knows maybe nettspend could be a solid artist in the future, future sounded shit early on but became one of the most listenable rappers out at one stage
A lot of people don’t actually like listening to new sounds. Most people aren’t actually open minded/experimental… BUT the main reason they’re on it is cause they’re getting paid to react. If they don’t do this, fans won’t give them as much attention. Another thing is, most of the fans asking him to react probably don’t truly like the music, they just riding waves or wanting to hear opinions. A lot of people genuinely arent into the underground, a lot of these “underground” RU-vid pages don’t actually listen to the underground, they just listen to the same handful of rappers who we call underground but only cause the community is super concentrated on it.
To say your music taste stays the same after your 20s is complete BS and you have no proof of that. My dad is 50 and he listens to rappers in 2015-now. Not the underground though obviously.
29 y/o old head here. i enjoy some of the new school music and its important to keep up with the times. i like keeping up with the underground even though i may not be super into it anymore.
Being 23 i've kinda been thru every wave of the soundcloud scene from early raider klan days up until current day and i find the older i get the more open-minded i've became with music as a whole. I stay up to date with music nowadays more than ever, in basically every genre i listen to. When i was in middle school i'd mainly be listening to rap and some edm stuff here and there (back when david guetta was poppin). once i got my first phone in grade 9 i found out about people like bones, yung lean, denzel curry, etc... then that lead to me finding people like night lovell, $b, spooky black, oliver francis, etc... once i was nearing the end of high school i found i got more open-minded for a lot of different kinds of music. Growing up there was always rock, rap, and 90s dance music played in the house so that could be partially why i will always give different kinds of music a shot. Now being the age i am, i'm listening to more & more new styles of music/genres than ever. I can go from listening to like most kinds of rap to listening to edm stuff to listening to country or spanish music or rock & everything in between. Maybe I'm just a bit different but the older i get the more i wanna hear new things.
I’m 25 and I’m still listening to new shit everyday I actually stopped enjoying rap as much tho a large portion of my music I listen to is indie and like alt pop
Trash is Trash bro age has nothing to do with it and opinions are thoughts with no direction everyone has them but the world keeps spinning... we dont age backwards so being young is not a flex
bro. i was 20 and getting my first crib when i was listening to young lean blak Kray lil ugly mane Denzel curry the SoundCloud golden years. i just turned 32 and i don't feel like it has changed that drastically. for example. i will put some older heads on to benny the butcher or al divino and they say i cant rock with it like i got them listening to yeet. how are you a 90s head and hate Griselda? i think some people too just get stuck in an era and cant move on
my observation is especially older listeners rly want to hear artists talk about what they rly represent instead of the fake street shit. ppl get rly turned off hearing some kid cap about a bunch of shit i guarantee if nettspend or whoever rly sold the gangsta image well way more people would fw them
Im from Africa and I grew up as a soundcloud wanderer. my friends would always come over and we would just play the latest drops on loud speakers it was so loud, all we want is just supertrap but on a consistent level doesnt matter from what rapper but most underground rappers its like a culture( look for a new hard song, album music videos etc)
im 22 but i feel old cause every year i keep sayin i miss 2015-2017 😭 im findin so much music from that time era in the last 2 years that i wish i found earlier. slay world hard, jaydes is next up ngl.
im 15 years old but really started getting into the SoundCloud scene at 8-11 and really got into it at like 12 ive always been amazed with music but i really think i am just a "old head" when it comes to the new underground the only underground rappers i like is lone and yeat i "grew up" yes i know im only 15 but i grew up w people like lil skies $uicideboy$ and uzi and i really just cant get into it because im stuck with old the soundcloud era. i fw sematary and he took a long time to enjoy so maybe i need to just listen to it with a open mind
Im 18, I just think almost all underground rap tries to sound either exactly like Destroy Lonely or like Ken Carson (Usually on the Ken side). The same beats, the cringey nightcore high pitched voices (Atleast when Ken does it, he puts a lil goofyness into it to make it more interesting) and no new choruses. I cannot count how many MDMA knockoffs I've heard on soundcloud. And the music videos are all the same too, look at Ken and Lonely, Ken be posting these crazy, dark psychadelic music videos (ex. Fighting my Demons) that are always flashy and scary while Lone goes for a more old school filmic vibe (ex. how u feel music video) If these rappers really wanna be respected and want higher fame, they gotta innovate. I'm not saying they shouldn't take inspiration, but that they should use that inspiration combined with their own charms.
people only care about lyrics when its time to hate, the same people who listen to ken and carti will be so quick to say "nettspend isn't saying shit in his lyrics".
In my opinion it’s his flow, delivery and beat choice, jerk music is a meme. Carti has some substance in his lyrics and can evoke emotions from ppl in his songs like flex and long time.
4-6 year age differences like 16-22 are like two whole dif generations even tho rn theyre all in gen z so it makes sense they have dif tastes but it’s not cus they’re old they just aren’t lil kids 😂..your brain isn’t even finished developing till 24 ppl be acting like 20 the new 30 that’s crazy
Problem is when older people try making young people music or the flip side when they want to expect the same sound forever from when they were young. Your taste doesnt have to stay the same if you are self aware
Im in a weird position. Im 17 and mostly listen to early 2010s underground like bones and goth money but i also fw this new wave heavy. Nettspend and xavier are dope
It's not weird, I was in this position few years ago, precisaly in 2019 and 2020, when I had your age and I still in this position in my early 20s Probably you have noticed precisaly how the 2020s underground era is influenced by the 2010s ogs and everything came full circle At least, I noticed It and that's why I enjoy nowadays underground
I think also that It's the best position since It gives you time to enjoy every underground era without considering the useful hate of people that consider themselves OG fanboys and without feeling out of time listening to old gems
both you and OG who reacted to nettspend have good points. i used to be one of those niggas like “yo bones and black kray the BEST underground era” like i had to realize nobody cares lmao. and EVERY generation say the same shit. i’m 31 and i like some of these new artists, some bein devstacks and bktherula 🗡
I'm 30 yrs old and I absolutely love the new gen underground rap. Especially the pluggnb type shit. I've always been a big fan of great melodies and catchy 'Autotuned-out' music 😂 (My favorite new gen artist rn is Autumn and has been for a while now). I can't stand people my age that hate on the new guys and act like the only good rappers are the ones we grew up on. These new guys are super talented and a lot of people my age also don't understand that a lot of these new guys are DIY. Making their own beats, recording and mixing and mastering their own shit. I respect the craft so much when it comes to DIY. My gen simply just needs to get with the times and accept the fact that there's a whole new generation of artist out here now that are super dope and just need to stop being stuck in the past. These niggas need to stop making us all look like bitter old heads!! 😂😂😂 We're all not like that! I fcks with the new gen HEAVY! Much love!
I'm 27 and been having a lot of anxiety turning 30 since I was like 24 25 cos I had this idea that the switch just comes (amongst other things and life just goes even more downhill) once you get to that age and it's just so crazy to me that people base the consumption of art on age especially when it comes to music. I'm happy u made this comment, gives me hope.
just turned 22 and i think ima stop at kankan summrs and maybe some Izaya. kinda understand osama and che, etc. but ‘21 was peak for me. rage is right though these new wave not really for anyone older than 16 as of right right now and as i get older im not gon tune in as much because life is gon do what it do. but this genuine booboo they puttin out dont sound like no shit that might touch mainstream though. they just kids fr. but if it does i wouldn’t be surprised music and humanity at all time low rn overall.
im 17 and i dont like nettspend or phreshboswag but i love xaviersobased, osamason, yhapojj, slayworld etc . u just got to find what appeals to you at a certain point
Exactly bro has listened to gl4, autumn, summrs slayworld etc on stream and loved them after the whole xaviersobased shit, its not his age, he just thinks his music is fucking ass, xaviersobased is trash
im 25 n been listening to the underground since i was in highschool and i fw netts music. i feel so many ppl start to become an oldhead when they get to a certain age. i never wanna become that person that hates on an entire generation of music that shits so wack. honestly i enjoy the newer generation of the underground more than shit from ~2016. i agree ppl hanging onto that is the lamest shit lol
I’m 24 I wanna be into this new plug b sound but naw I’m too old for that shit I will talk about tbr golden days until my new wave comes and I’ll hop on it
Opinions are opinions I understand it, but it shouldn’t take 20 listens to like a song after about 3 or 4 if it don’t hit then it’s not for you. I love new Music especially as a artist but I can’t fw everything even old songs I used to like don’t hit now so gotta keep it moving forward finding new inspiration
I feel most older people are so used to what they like and they cant enjoy a new sound because of how different it is. Giving music a true chance is listening to something many times over even if you dont fully enjoy it yet. Obviously a lot of people dont care about music enough to listen to music they dont like yet and would rather stick to what they know works, but, for the few older people that can enjoy new sounds is because they have a truly open mind. A lot of younger people that like music dont really have this issue becuase they havent figured out what they truly like yet so anything has a high chance of sounding good off rip.
When that soundcloud wave of 2015-2016 was popping I didn't get it, I was like 13 and had never did a drug, gotten pussy, money, or done anything these colorful hair painted nail niggas were talking about in their music. I like music I can relate to so it didn't hit. As I got older I gained more real world and social experience which made the music more vibey and relatable to me. By 2019 I was bumping Uzi leaks daily, 2020 lil peep and lil tracy heavy, and by 2021 I was bumping d savage duwap kaine etc. like every fucking day. 2024 now and I'm making music with all typa influences. I blame weed for the ignorance XD
4:24 black kray is the best, if him and spaceghostpurpp didnt exist, the entire underground including some of your favorite mainstream rappers from the soundcloud era wouldnt exist
Nah bro has listened to gl4, autumn, summrs slayworld etc on stream and loved them after the whole xaviersobased shit, its not his age, he just thinks his music is fucking ass, xaviersobased is trash
I'm a guy that's nearly pushing 30 and I can safely say that this Generations version of rap isn't for me although I don't necessarily like it and I have some strong opinions but at the same time I prefer my stuff to basically stick to the old school stuff
Also the new underground is complete ass ... No Photos by KanKan is a slap tho .. & after the 4:00 mark you were just sayin dumb 17yr old shit but aye, good content 😂
Nah bro it aint that, rage has listened to gl4, autumn, summrs slayworld etc on stream and loved them after the whole xaviersobased shit, its not his age, he just thinks his music is fucking ass, xaviersobased is trash
@@capo_gambino1359 But hes not been on that wave until recently tho. Max has been listening to the underground since day one. Rage may like them but Max is the only one who actually knows the scene.
