Congress is setting the stage to restore nuclear capabilities to approximately 30 B-52H Stratofortress bombers. These bombers had previously been modified to carry only conventional munitions under the New START arms control treaty restrictions with Russia.
Both the Senate and House defense policy bills for fiscal 2025 mandate that the US Air Force reintegrate these bombers into the nuclear triad, nearly a decade after their nuclear capabilities were removed to comply with the treaty's limits. The current New START treaty is scheduled to expire in February 2026.
According to the House bill, the Air Force must begin reconverting the bombers within a month after the treaty expires and complete the restoration of their nuclear capabilities by 2029.
In this video, Defense Updates analyzes why US Congress is working to rearm 30 B-52H Stratofortress bombers with nukes?

Eff the START treaty or any new one. You literally cannot name ONE treaty that Russia has honored in the past. Not to the USA, or any other country. They never even settled up for the Lend Lease agreement that was the only reason that they don't speak German today.

And, as Gen. Patton correctly said, they should've cancelled all help to russia after 1943 and just recruited Germany to finally march to Moscow...

Any new treaty that doesn't include all current nuclear countries would be pretty much useless.

Why should America have to abide by the New Start Treaty when everyone knows Russia has not followed the rules at all? They've developed new missiles that are banned and all their bombers remained nuclear capable. Russia has violated every mean of that treaty for years.

Honestly, I would pass on the B-52 and focus on restoring nuclear capability to DDGs and SSNs While the Buff will be around for a while, adding that capability to DDGs and SSNs is far more flexible and lethal A newer TLAM with longer range and higher speed

It's going to take them 5 YEARS to complete this? I think that the US should expedite this. 😐

Interesting video, however would it not be better to build working hypersonic weapons? Than spend $ on a platform that was cutting edge in the 1960's? Not so much in 2024...

That big, slow, non stealth airplane would get taken out buy the advanced air defense systems of Russia, China, and Iran. What the US REALLY NEEDS is the capability to intercept hypersonic missiles.

A lot of questions answered. Will the nuclear upgrade be limited to Hs and not Js? If so, how many Js will be created, and how many Hs will be available for the nuclear upgrade? And how many other B-52s presently constitute the airborne element of triad,. Are three groups of '52s visualized, the present triad group, the new H group assigned new thermonuclear capability, and, third, the Js? The allocations to these respective groups is a bit unclear.
@WhiteWolf65
@WhiteWolf65 Месяц назад
All the active B-52's are being upgraded to J-series, as that includes an upgraded cockpit, the new Rolls-Royce efficient engines, and other upgrades. So three of those upgraded B-52's will also get the tweaks for being able to carry and launch the nuclear packages... (or perhaps more than 3...?)

@rogersmith8480
@rogersmith8480 Месяц назад
They are ALREADY ready. See, Russia right now is going to restart their short and international range nuclear missiles. It shouldn't take them that long to have them rolling off the assembly line. That means they can place these short range or international range in their submarines and land base. That MEANS, if the Russians launches several of these short or international nuclear missiles, that satellite WILL NOT pick it up until it's too late. You are going to say Russia already has YARS, that's a intercontinental missile that can be seen from space launching and that satellite from space can pick it up. So just get prepared because it looks like this is going to get very hot. Please prepare with food up to the ceiling. GOD bless you and your family.

Most planes including civilian planes like cessna are technically "nuclear capable" you just have to drop it out the aircraft. For the military there are a whole lot of extra tecnical safetys that were agreed upon by the international community that would be required for planes that carry nukes. so before the us can allow there planes to carry nukes they have to install abunch of gear and safety mechinisms and then testing.

@@sheldoniusRex All active B-52's are being upgraded to J-series, as it includes the new modernized glass cockpit, the new very-efficient Rolls-Royce engines, and a few other tweaks. I assume the ability to carry & arm the nukes will be on them, but only three aircraft/systems will be active at any one time... in theory.
