Why Use a 16-17 FPE Spring Piston Rifle and not a Super Magnum?

Why am I in favor of using a lesser powered 16-17 FPE spring piston rifle, over what is typically pushed, the 23+FPE super magnum airgun.

Very rightly brought out. In conventional airguns as springers, it is a challenge to maintain accuracy off hand.... and, for plinking or small gaming, 18 fpe will do equally good as a 24fpe one. One more aspect is the enjoyment with the rifle to shoot continuously with same comfort level. Magnum are certainly hard to cock and difficult to control.... the enjoyment or pleasure factor is greatly reduced. But, almost every air gunner goes through this journey and grows over a time period to realize this. Even in PCP world, people initially go after high 900s fps even with heavy pellets and later every one settles down to low 900s. Journey..... everyone goes through. Regards

Hey Chuck, Thanks again for a great video. Like many, when I got into shooting airguns, I initially bought based on fps. Later I cared more about consistency and accuracy. Now that I'm older and my vision is starting to get worse I don't take many distance shots. So inside of 20 yards, but more often than not, inside of 15 yards. So my accuracy and power tend to be consistent because there is less distance and time to travel for wind or other factors to effect the shot. My only super Magnum is the one I bought for my so, the Gamo Swarm Magnum Gen 2 for his 10th birthday. He still can't cock it by himself, but that gives me a bit of an excuse to spend more time with him and to make sure he practices his fundamentals of safe handling, trigger discipline and muzzle awareness. I think he'll be able to cock it by himself next year though. I hope you have a great time celebrating the Birth of Our Lord and Saviour. May Almighty and Merciful Father continue to BLESS you and your family with HIS GRACE, LOVE, and PROTECTION. In JESUS' HOLY NAME I pray. Amen. Stay Safe. Be Well. GOD BLESS.

@@kenfan5666 Thank you Ken, God bless you and your family also 🙂👍. Ps, I think that your son would really like something like a Stoeger S3000-C. It is a youth break barrel, that is much easier cock, shoulder and shoot, and for the price of around 70-80 bucks, you can't beat it. My son is now 13 and he is a strong boy, but in no way can he cock and load one of my magnum break barrel air rifles. For your son's safety, he should not try to cock a Gamo Magnum air rifle until he is as big and strong as you.

Great video Chuck 🤘👍👌 it's just a shame over here in the UK, especially Scotland when it's got to be under 12, or you might end up doing time in jail if its over 🙈🙈😃😃 or you can go through the FAC ( Fire Arms Certificate ) and try a get something more powerful... either way you'll need a gun certificate... and Police round to your house to check how you store them.. plus a mental health check ,a report from your doctor and so much red tape, be a member of a shooting club or have a permission to shoot somewhere .that's in Scotland.. in England you can have a sub 12 gun and shoot it in your garden 😂😂😂 all all the rules changed after the Dumblane school shooting in Scotland it took away all the fathers and sons/daughters rights that might like to start shooting just for fun.. it spoiled it for future generations to come 😥😥😥 anyway Chuck I might be a bit envious of you all in the US, in a way your kind of lucky but in other ways maybe not so lucky.. 👌👍🤘

@@johnhouston6142 Thank you John 😀👍. Soon as the people say okay it's a law, then we are done. The 12 FPE law is silly. I have done a ballistic gell test and there is not much difference between 12 FPE and 15 FPE in 177 or 22 caliber getting 20 FPE. The evil is working hard to remove all rights. If good people will do nothing, evil will prevail, at least for a little while. Then Jesus Christ will come back and it will be end of the story for them. Have a great Christmas ✝️🎄John 😀👍.

Not to mention your far less likely to kill the scope with a lower power springer. Good video.

Great video man, it’s important to talk viewers not the get caught up on the magnum airgun hype. They’re fun and all, but I’ll take my .177 crosman quest 1000x that’s pushing 15 FPE and I have no issue taking rabbits and squirrels. I used to think my hatsan 125 was going to be my new go-to. But, walking around for hours with it makes it feel like I’m elk hunting with a 7mm Rem mag. Lol

Great comparison Chuck with two lovely rifles. I remember my Diana 48 that I had back in South Africa was pushing out close to 25 foot pounds as we have no restrictions there, while it was accurate my new one over here in Spain is around 19 foot pounds and the accuracy is like night and day 👍 Have a great week ahead!

Hey Chuck, even though i'm relatively new into the world of air rifles i completely agree with the things you said in this video. In my opinion power is great but accuracy/mobility and quality definitely beats a few extra fp of energy. I'm a fast learner and pretty happy i figured this out early on due to practice and all the info out there. Two weeks ago i received my new Weihrauch HW 95 Luxus in .22 no restrictions (build year 2022) with an absolute beautiful stock, and let me tell you, in my opinion the quality is just not comparable to my Hatsan 95. The quality and detail of the Weihrauch is pure craftmanship and the light weight aswell as the weight distribution is simply amazing. I also got my first scope, i went with the Hawke Vantage 2-7×32 AO Mil Dot with a mountable Wulf torch, i hesitated between this and a 4-9×40 which is used most frequently but i think the 2-7×32 is just perfect for the the power and range of my Weihrauch plus i'll have no chance of parallax. I appreciate and enjoy all your video's. Take care and God bless your family.

Thank you so much 🙂👍 and congratulations on your HW95 Luxus 😀👍. The HW's are possibly the very best built break barrel air rifles. The Hatsan 95 is not built as nice and solid as Weihrauch, but I have fun with that on too. God bless and have a great Christmas ✝️🎄😀👍

Another thing to consider is power isn’t always necessary the weight after awhile you may shoot it well to start with but walk around a couple hours you’ll be tired and shooting will suffer….

any of the german or british made non "magnums" tend to be fun airguns- the 700-800 fps .177's are just a great easy shooting and tend to be accurate. Not that I dont want or have magnum springers :) I use my "dark side" pcp rifles for the higher power stuff myself. True "Magnum" springers turn a lot of gun guys off when going to airguns thinking power is an end all.... Love the video's n Merry Christmas to you and yours and the other viewers!

Around 16 fpe in 22 is balance of power and precision the more power it has more violent it becomes

I'm not sure exactly what we are for sea level, but I'm on the Jim River drainage that is the slowest flowing and lowest graident river in the USA. When I compare my Walther Parrus numbers (FPS) to other numbers across the nation, my numbers are about the same or a little higher. BTW thank you Lou for checking out my video 🙂👍.

Hi Chuck, good video and topic. I would probably go even further and say if you are more accurate even with a sub 12fpe rifle tather use that than the higher power magnum. In springers accuracy is king, forget the power and focus on accuracy. The less power the easier to be accurate all other things equal.

Great point Tyron, however I think it also comes down to the quality of the air rifle. My HW30 is only 8 foot pounds it shoots like a lazer however my Diana 48 has more than twice the power and is just if not more accurate and out to a longer range too.

Hi Guys, sorry changed phones so missed your replies. I agree 100% that the quality of the rifles definitely will play a massive role in how well it shoots and higher power will also allow you to stretch out the distance for sure. Bth of you have high end springers so I trust you guys😊

I'm limited to sub 12ftlb, I have an HW95K doing 11.5ftlb with JSB RS and an HW30 doing 8ftlb with RS, both .177. Regarding the extra power of a magnum, how much flatter is the trajectory? How many extra yards do you gain in the trajectory between 16ftlb and 23+ftlb? Thanks for the video.... and I agree Jesus is the reason for the season... but the winter pagan festival is thousands of years older, and judging by the greed and gluttony of many people in the "west" and that they do not believe in Christ, I wonder what is it that people are actually "celebrating"?
@springpistonriflefeverlone9611
@springpistonriflefeverlone9611 6 месяцев назад
I fully agree what you are saying about Christmas and the much paganism mixed in it. I am truly torn apart this time of year when people say Marry Christmas, not knowing exactly what they mean, if they are not a believer in Christ. Far as flat shooting and bucking the wind 🌬️ a magnum, like my Walther Parrus 22 makes it very big difference. For instance, when plinking cans on the while out ice fishing, out to 60 yards on a very windy 🌬️ day 15+mph, I can constantly drill my target with very little holdover or adjusting for the wind 🌬️. With my other springers, this is incredibly hard to do.
