i just realized why he used nagini instead of the basilisk, basilisk fangs kills horcruxes, so wouldn't the very venom coursing through its veins prevent it from being created. i always thought not using the basilisk, something unstoppable that lives for thousands of years was a missed opportunity but even if it could horcruxify what happens if it accidentally bites itself.

@@tylerhalloran9158 the gaunts have the ability from salazar slytherins line of heritage. The way the gaunts and harry are connected are via the peverells which is a different line of heritage. Harry has nothing to do with slytherin.

I thought the same, idk why in my head I feel like she didn’t care about being human she just held on to the only person she remotely connected with after years and years of being lonely.

Obviously that's the way she and Voldy got to met each other, that's how he knows who she is, what she wants and how to use her for his own benefit! 🤦🏻‍♂️

You also have to remember that normal wizards and no-majs treated maledictuses with fear and prejudice. It goes to reason that Nagini a "purer" magical society which Voldemort promised his followers. She just wanted to be treated as a human being. Plus, Voldemort was the most powerful dark wizard of his time, which I think made Nagini think that he can reverse her curse.

But Nagini is a magical creature so probably her lifespan would still be longer than humans, maybe hundreds of years.

I think having two souls in the same body could have allowed her to live a longer life....who knows maybe Nagini's soul was already gone, n it was only Voldemort's soul on her body keeping her alive.

Melissa Haxhiaj yes ... Harry was the 7th horcrux the horcrux Voldemort didn’t even know he made. That’s why Voldemort needed to be the one to kill Harry and why Harry went into the Forrest in DH part 2 he knew he had to sacrifice himself to truly get rid of Voldemort. :)

Hayd M well, horcruxes only keep the soul alive. The physical body can still be killed. I found this great explanation on the internet: A Horcrux keeps your soul tethered to this world so you do not fully die. It does nothing to make your physical body invincible. Voldemort had several horcruxes but the backfiring curse still destroyed his body the night he visited the Potter's. We know that a horcrux needs to be destroyed beyond magical repair. However that is actually ridiculously easy for a human body, as we do not have any spells that can revive the dead. Destroying the horcrux inside a human body would probably be easier than destroying an artifact that can easily be protected with more charms. So if you have two wizards. A is B's horcrux and B is A's horcrux, what happens if you kill A is that B loses a horcrux (and therefore if you kill B's physical body now, B will completely die), while A's soul is still tethered to the earth via the horcrux in B (and could be brought back into a regular body via something like what Wormtail did for Voldemort). If B is killed before A can perform a body revival thing, A's soul loses its remaining horcrux (and therefore the tether to this world) and presumably perishes.

@Slowed & Reverb there are 7 horcruxes. And 8 pieces of soul of voldemort. And harry wasnt the 7th horcrux he was the 6th. Voldemort made nagine a horcrux after his return is goblet of fire and thus after making harry one.

Jyotiparna Kakati well, the diary riddle would be of no use because it is technically the older voldemort himself, and because he just has a memory form. The only way to make the riddle diary come back, is by sacrificing ginny or something

You have to remember that the general population of regular wizards (those not involved in dark magic) and no-maj humans are not completely blameless; they treated magical creatures with prejudice and fear. Other examples would be Remus Lupin (a werewolf) and Fenrir Greyback who are pushed to margins of society. Even Hagrid, a half-giant, was bullied and taught incapable of honest work, if Dumbledore had not seen his talent with animals. It is quite understandable that a maledictus like Nagini or someone like Fenrir would long for a "purer" magical society, where they would be more accepted; this was something that Voldemort promised his followers. He gave a rallying cause for the racist purebloods and the downtrodden who had been oppressed by society.

I know! Some things she releases, I appreciate them, others, honestly, are a waste. I wish she’d just publish one BIG book containing all the “Behind The Scenes” knowledge and all her notes, rather than coming over and over again with her “clarifications”. It’d make things easier for her and for us, because right now, all her additions may seem useful and nice to Potterheads, but to others, it’s really capitalizing on something that already ended. I’m pretty sure all her Twitter and Pottermore “clarifications” can form one large book, maybe even longer than Order Of The Phoenix, because it doesn’t seem like she’ll stop this anytime soon.

I'm guessing the magic that Lilly Potter performed to protect Harry (i.e. a self-sacrifice out of love) works to protect Harry for his entire life. When Harry went into the forest, he essentially sacrificed himself for his loved ones (his friends); therefore Harry performed the same kind of magic his mother did for him; he sacrificed himself out of love and that made Voldemort's magic rebounded and failed.
