Why Was Darth Malgus Darth Vader's Hero?
Darth Vader was one of the most powerful and ruthless sith Lords the Galaxy had ever seen. However, he could have been far more powerful and far more ruthless. Palpatine was well aware of how Vader was held back by his crippling physical injuries and maybe more importantly his depression. Hoping to inspire Vader, Palpatine gifted him with part of Malgus's journal. Vader noted how Malgus shared many similarities with himself, notably his warrior mindset and cybernetic suit. However, they differed in one crucial way. Vader struggled to be fully committed to the dark side due to his attachment to Padme and past life as a Jedi. Malgus was very different and actually killed his own lover as he perceived this as a weakness that could be used against him. Vader aspired to one day be as immersed in the dark side as Malgus, although his attachment and previous life as Anakin Skywalker would always pull him back to the light.

Damn, he’s held back by his depression. That makes sense actually. Usually the dark side is powered by negative thoughts like anger, but I like how depression doesn’t fuel the dark side, it seems more realistic. Depression drains the life out of you no matter what you’re doing

I‘d argue that what pushed him to the dark side is him having to suppress his attachment to Padme. We learned that Obi Wan also had a secret lover, yet he was incredibly strong in his devotion to the light side.

Malgus and the Old Republic era in general are such underutilised parts of Star Wars. I really hope they do something with all of that material in the future

I think for the creators it’s hard to justify moving away from the common parts of Star Wars. We knew characters some characters during prequels we knew some characters during the sequels, and obviously the original trilogy. And these new Star Wars shows are built around older characters or are in a memorable era. Going away from all of that is a bit scary for the creators of the media. If you fail to deliver then you’re out of your job.

It was said by KK that they had plans and were waiting to get started on it (albeit it this was awhile ago, a project involving the old republic was rumored to be cancelled who knows). Honestly I think it’s blacklisted rn, I don’t think creatives are allowed to touch it aside from brief references similar to the clone wars before the prequels. We’ll have to see if they make the KOTOR remake canon which I think they might.

Malgus killing Eleena was strangely an emotional scene in the novel, he actually cried for a while after doing it.

@@Vic-pg4rg i think it provided him with both conflict and clarity. You see, Malgus always favored the sith empire over his relationship with Eleena, he even outright says it through speech/internal monologue from time to time and he feels this way because he believes that he was born for conquest/war. His relationship with Eleena was genuine, but it could never have topped the delusional beliefs that he had lived by for years. After a while, his relationship with Eleena became a liability simply because he loved her too much. His career as a sith had been put in a particularly bad position as his bond with Eleena always required him to protect her whilst also allowing his enemies to exploit this weakness. By killing her, he resolved the conflict and wasn't entirely torn but he did have to live with her memory.

@@kod1acNo hes right. The emperor specifically designed Vaders suit to be extremely uncomfortable, heavy, and extremely sensative to electricity. Whereas Malgus's suit was heavy duty armor that didnt slow him down much, gave him incredible physical enhancements, and allowed him so sustain blows from incredibly powerful attacks.

Or be a beast like Malgus who has a cybernetic suit made that enhances every aspect of his power & skills , without being a hindrance to him & exploiting his weaknesses

I would imagine that Darth Malgus was probably the only other Sith that influenced Vader besides Sidious. Vader even based his fighting style on that of Malgus, with raw aggressive power strikes.

Malgus was trapped with his lover against a republic armada. She was captured and knew she would be again so she asked Malgus to strike her down as she views herself as a weakness to him not the other way around. The power he gained that day was not him discarding a weakness. Was a husband honoring the last wish of his wife and becoming a warrior with no weaknesses that could cost him his life.

Darth Malgus spin-off movie would be awesome. The ending of the script could be like: The Holocron Malgus has left slowly changes with the background, aging as it now appears in a pair of wrinkly gray hands. The camera zooms out to reveal Palpatine handing Darth Vader the Holocron of Malgus.

Vader can actually use lightning (I think it’s red?) but he doesn’t because his suit is weak to lightning so if he tried he’d kill himself. It’s like Superman using a blade of Kryptonite.

Idk what is canon but in the RotS novelization when Palpatine found Vader with his limbs chopped off he notes that he will never be able to use force lighting because it requires physical hands. This is the story I am familiar with

@@16thcenturynormie I don’t think Palpatine knew everything, cause in one of the comics Vader has to pass through this gate on Mustafar that sends his spirit and Vader has lightning as a spirit. I’d assume it’s the suit that keeps Vader from using lightning. It’s in one of the Vader comics I think.

Malgus was everything Vader could have been but wasn't. I don't believe for a second that Vaders physical injuries were what was holding him back (power wise) it was definitely his psychological state. Instead of channeling that pain into anger and rage, he basically just grieved all the time. Anger is more useful than despair.

Darth Vader's suit was poorly designed whereas Darth Malgus' was made of metal and was better designed allowing him to be more mobile and use force lightning I imagine if Vader tried using force lightning it would kill him

Vader wouldn't be as powerful as Malgus, with or without depression or sadness! NEVER! MALGUS WAS NOT JUST A SITH! BUT A COMMANDER OF LEGIONS, A MASTERMIND! A LEADER! That doesn't mean Vader is weak or some, in legends (Malgus is legends, so ill speak about Vader in legends, too) Vader was........ strong, to say the least, but a fool by all means! He has no leadership abilities! Plus Malgus was not depressed, HE KILLED HIS WIFE BECAUSE HE WANT MORE ANGER TO BE MORE POWERFUL, while Vader "killed" his wife, by mistake, and so he became, powerful by hate, and yet eat by sadness. Read the legends, read Deceived by Malgus, and Rise of Darth Vader, and then compare MALGUS WITH VADER POINT!

I’d like to see a “what if” series on if Vader wiped palpatine out and then started researching, studying and calculating on how to reach his full potential. Maybe a sleeker, slimmer combat suit, the most advanced cybernetics out, and no restrictions on force usage. I almost feel that Darth Vader was wasted in the movies. Now that there is much lore about Vader, I truly wanna see him live out his “destiny”.

I disagree with everything you said. Nothing drew Vader back to the light, after Padmes death he blamed everyone else and he had so much hatred and suffering that fueled him. Anakin were basically dead and he killed everyone who knew about his old life. He was way to far gone before Luke came. Nothing was drawing him to the light. But yes his injuries and his suit held him back.

Difference between the 2 is malgus was taught by the sith like palpatine was without the light side teachings holding him back. If Vader was taught by palpatine after mail successful in kidnapping he would've achieved it.

Vader (legends) was more powerfull in the force than Malgus, however he never became as great of a Sith. Malus did what so many sith pretend to do but never really achived - he had broken his chains.

If you read this I care about you enough to tell you that you have sinned against a Holy God and because of that you are under condemnation and will endure God’s wraith if you do not come to know and believe in His son Jesus Christ who died on the cross so the door to have your sins forgiven could be open and you receive salvation as a free gift if you reject Him you will suffer for all eternity turn from your sinful ways and live a life that is appealing to the Lord and brings Him Glory you don’t have all the time in the world tomorrow is not guaranteed

Sadly, the Kotor universe (which includes swtor) is not canon. Perhaps in the future it will be, but as it stands Disney says no

This is one of the reasons Malgus beats Vader in a duel. Malgus is just a different breed entirely and definitely has the skill, experience, and power to defeat Vader.

It's like the one thing that the Sith and dark side users never understand is they believe that having nothing makes you the most dangerous person when actually it's having everything to lose that will make you just more Beast than you could ever thought that you were able to be
