No one here mentions Japan's strength. Europeans believe that Germany lost by chance and that Spain lost on purpose. But actually...lol This is why European teams are stagnant.
Japan played really well and with tons of effort, don’t get me wrong. But the win against Germany was also really really lucky. The offensive quality of the top European teams is on a different level. Granted Spain had few chances and scored once, the fact that they weren’t even trying to create more chances that would have likely resulted in a loss or draw for Japan. Defensive teams have to be lucky to win games as they have more chances against them.

The main problem in Germany is that we don’t have promising strikers since Klose. Look at the goalgetter lists in the Bundesliga, you won’t find many German strikers, because we buy from other countries. And also the defenders got worse over the years. I don’t see any problem on the goalkeeping and midfield site though EDIT: Yeah I got it already, everyone knows better 🤦🏻♂️

That is why Spain actually started to run for a few minutes. I was watching that game and wasn't sure what had happened bc Germany was up 1-0. But then their game plan became clear. Very unfair what they did and today they lost to the team they wanted to play, Morocco.

But it was not a clear misjudgment, it was not visible on the footage during the game, so the original decision should stand. Only in later analysis they calculated that it was a regular goal decided by less than 2mm.

Let’s be clear. Spain took last game for granted and didn’t want to play Croatia. They played weak and happily took the second place in the group. Got immediately hammered by Morocco in round of 16. None of group E teams advanced to quarterfinals because of the calculation of Spanish team.

Japan drew Croatia who were ranked higher. Spain lost to Morocco who were ranked lower. Though both lost, one was a goaless draw while the other had goals from both sides.
I missed Germany of the past, when all rivals were still anxious although they leaded Germany 1-0 or 2-0..Hope they will come back in Euro 2024 with a dominating style like 2014 World Cup
