One of the greatest geniuses to have walked on the surface of the globe is Rabindranath Tagore. As with all geniuses, it is easy to appreciate their work but difficult to see why - what were their inspirations, what was their underlying philosophy that overarched all their works?
In this video, we deep dive into the philosophy of the man who single-handedly shaped the entire Bangla culture for eternity - Asia's first Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore. We deep dive into one of his famous Rabindrasangeet and see how it connects with the universe around it, across space and time.

Sometimes we underestimate the effect tagore had on the bengali society.He is primarily the reason why across generations music industry was dominated by bengalis.Firstly it was kishore kumar and rd burman in 70s.In the 80s bappi lahiri was dominant.90s was the era of kumar sanu.And post 90s shreya ghoshal,shaan were at their prime and now a sort of monopoly has been established for big banner movies by pritam and arijit singh.This shows how one person can have a butterfly effect over so many generations and futures to come

And i thought i was the only one who realized this. I have been following movies music since i was child. And there is something with bengali literature and music which hits different. It's like time does not affect bengali culture. For example Hrishikesh mukharjee's movies you can watch them for understanding culture and dressing of that time yet relatable to 2022. Same goes with music, i was listening to Shantanu Moitra's tagore album which was narrated by gulzar. Each and every track was so fresh.

@anushghosh4606
@anushghosh4606 Год назад
@Abhay Pratap Singh I think you are also guilty of the same thing that I accuse of Ayush of being: an uncritical and blind follower of people and things without thinking them through on your own intellectual capabilities. In your case, you put us Bengali people on an infallible pedestal without realising that Bengali people are, well, people. Not all Bengalis adhere to the standards of rational thinking and logical argumentation that you assume all Bengalis do. And since you aren't a Bengali yourself or that you probably don't live in Bengal, you have no idea how hegemonic Tagore is to contemporary Bengali culture that even challenging or critiquing his work is often seen by many as some kind of betrayal of the cultural ethos of Bengali culture. A lot of people do treat Tagore like a god, or in the very least, like some kind of divinely inspired prophet. Very few people would entertain questions regarding the literary merits of Tagore or of his philosophical undertakings, but they would instead bury anyone even trying to critique Tagore by asking them questions about their "capabilities" or "contributions", as if asking questions or criticising something that an individual may not like or prefer somehow requires someone to be capable or contributory towards that particular field of inquiry.

@@user-jv4xf3xe6l I had to look into it. In 1929, Rabindranath Thakur wrote the following poem: "In the golden age of Asia Korea was one of its lamp bearers, And that lamp is waiting To be lighted once again For the illumination of the East." Short and sweet. If you know anything about Korea and the year 1929, you will know just how dire the situation was. This poem sparked a wave of Korean nationalism, and was a big factor in galvanizing the Korean population of the time into a robust independence movement. What was his prophecy, you ask? Well, walk through the streets of Seoul or Busan and tell me if you think he was right. Today, there stands a four-foot busk of him in Seoul. All this for a man who wrote a simple poem about a land that fascinated him, though he had never once visited.

The struggle between self and the world, between Atman and Brahman, between our shelter and the outside - is a running theme in the writting of the great poet. In fact he describes his internalisation of said struggle in his autobiography 'Jeebonsmriti'. There is piece from this book called 'Ghar o Bahir' which depicts this theme so beautifully in his own life. We were fortunate that it was a part of our syllabus during our board exams.

আপনার প্রোফাইলে নাম যাই হোক, দারুণ বললেন। Tagore has never stuck himself within impediments. As a lover, he teaches us how to love, explains what the real form of love is. As a philosopher he opens up our minds with numerous thoughts, ideas and perspectives to look at the life. And of course, as a preacher, he teaches us how to preach and what the true form of the Almighty is.

Ashris, I want to congratulate you for this video-essay. When the young show such sensitivity and openness of mind and encourage others to do so, one feels deeply hopeful about India's future, particularly in these dark times. It is unfortunate that Tagore has remained trapped within a Bengali echo-chamber and even the cultured people outside Bengali hardly read him. Maybe, you could do a video-essay on Tagore's cosmopolitanism (being a citizen-of-the-world), a theme so fundamentally important in our times.

Great essay as always. I'm struck by the poem "Dui Pakhi". - If you take it as-is without any emotion clouding your judgement, it's pretty good illustration of Order/Chaos within oneself. - It's also a tool for sympathy, an extroverted outgoing girl can't under reading obsession of an introverted shy guy; both being correct in their own places, no judgement. Hedgehog dilemma is also beautifully explored in the Hideaki Anno's masterpiece "Neon Genesis Evangelion" depicting real pains of "getting close" I think this essay took the bird metaphor in little too many digressions. Tagore is great, though I don't get few of the connotations you've tried to make. I need to read his poems more! Not much of a poem guy, but I'm inspired to read more after this video.

This is one of the best videos I have watched on RU-vid. The poem was sung so beautifully and as I read the English lyrics I get emotional in the end trying to sympathize with both the birds. And the analysis just blew my mind. Although The poem ends on a sad note, I wish and believe there is a 4th stanza somewhere in which both birds, since they can't do anything now, starts adjusting to this life instead of giving up one each other. They now appreciates that they can atleast see each other, talk to each other and touch their beaks. The storyteller free bird now has a listener 'cage' bird. Maybe Ashris can write a 4th stanza using his beautiful mind and ends the poem on a good tone 😊😊

Masculinity and Femininity are two dimensions of who we are. Even the fundamental energy system of humans (as per Yogic sciences) called the _Praanamayokosha_ has the left feminine side called the _Ida_ and the right masculine side called the _Pingala_ and there's the central energy channel which is devoid of the two, or the union of the two and thus represents the divine, the _Sushumna_ . Whatever that is beautiful, lively, graceful and exuberance is the Feminine and whatever that is about the pragmatic realms of life is masculine. You're both together. If you loose either of the two sides of yours, you're just a half life. One becomes a Yogi when their both masculine & feminine sides come together, that's why Shiva is Ardhanārishvara and when he's Natarāja, he wears a Makara Kundalam (an earring specifically for males) on his right ear and a Taatankam (an earring specifically for females) on his left ear. This is Yoga - Union 😌🔯

Dude... I don't know how to express but YOU are AMAZING because not everyone has this level of perfect balance of CULTURAL CONSERVANCY and TECHNOLOGICAL CURIOCITY in their mind like you do.❤ _SOME WONDERFUL FACTS HERE:_ 1. Tagore ventured into a new creative field like *Fine Arts* in the last decades of his life when he was too old. - And created some of the most *enigmatic* and *beguiling* paintings in modern art industry - so much so that when an exhibition was held in Paris, literary giants like André Gide, Paul Valéry, André Malraux among others were astonished. 2. Tagore was probably the only one in Asia to had met with another genius *Albert Einstein* three times. - And got himself once into an intense discussion (debate?) with Einstein on topics such as *true nature of reality* , *Cosmology* , *Spirituality* , and *Quantum Mechanics* to name a few! 3. Tagore, in his lifetime, accomplished a complicated task by synthesizing *Indian Classical* and *Bengali Esoteric* (Bául) and inspiration from *Western Classical* with his own *ingenuity for music* - in order to compose almost 2,300 songs - that are *uniquely identifiable* once you hear them - henceforth, grew a genre called "Rabindrasangeet" in its own. 4. Tagore won *Nobel Prize* in literature in *1913* for 'Gitanjali' (গীতাঞ্জলি) as the first Asian man to do so. - BUT IT IS NOT THE PRIZE THAT MADE HIM SPECIAL OR OUTSTANDING, for LITTLE DID HE CARE for prizes and awards. Remember the aftermath of the *Jallianwala Bagh massacre* in 1919 when Rabindranath *rejected* the *KNIGHTHOOD* (given in 1915 for his Birthday honour by the British Royalty) and *refused* to use 'Sir' before his name in protest against the British Government. 5. Tagore composed our National Anthem 'Jana Gana Mana' in 1911 - way before he became famous in the western world - which was publicly sung in Calcutta (Kolkata) at a session of *Indian National Congress* - and was by no means praise for King George V - but actually a beautiful song showcasing the *unity in diversity* and *ethnic harmony* and *peace and love* for the great nation India. *Thanks for clearing up that long-going ridiculous controversy by some lazy conspiracy theorists.* 6. TAGORE LOVED INDIA SO MUCH and also gave his utmost respect to anyone who worked for and made India proud. It must be mentioned that, the reason Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi - or simply, *Gandhi* - a force to reckon with - an icon of the twentieth century - is now usually called "Mahatma Gandhi" (महात्मा गांधी) is the fact that Tagore gave that *appellation* to him. While appreciating the points mentioned above, it already seems a superhuman feat in a single man's lifetime if we let alone all of his numerous *Novels* and *Short-stories* , his experimental *Plays* and a handful of pondering *Essays* ! And we are not even talking about Tagore's original ideas for *Education System* (he founded *Visva-Bharati* University at Shántiniketan), his fascinating thoughts for *Rural Development* and *Village Landscape Design* and what not! RABINDRANATH TAGORE (রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর) was a versatile genius like no other. He is more relevant today. A polymath like Tagore is usually called "Gurudeva" (গুরুদেব) for a reason. To fully grasp his oeuvre and to understand the man, one has to take a multi-disciplinary approach. And you just tend to achieve something like that here. THANK YOU.🙏

What a great video man, really loved it. Catchy intro, good use of animations, your fluency in Bengali made it even more special. Honestly I would pay for such content but we are getting free on RU-vid. Glad we have good youtubers like you in India. Keep up the good work. All the best

Being a Bangali and having studied Bharoto Bhagyo Bidhata from the Gitabitan (a collection of all the songs of Tagore which you'll find in many, if not most Bangali households), the fourth verse is what immediately came to my mind when you showed the conspiracy theories, but I had not expected YOU to delve so deep and show it so brilliantly as well...... And your explanation of Dui Pakhi is spot on, as is your Bangla pronunciation which is amazing for a non-Bangali...... Brilliant video to get people into Tagore, thank you so much for making this! Onek bhalobasha Kolkata theke (Lots of love from Kolkata )❤

Every word of Tagore is thought provoking. In fact, whole Bengali literature of that era is way ahead of its time. Can't imagine something of that level being produced by Millennials, Gen X or Gen Z. I can't even expect them to read Tagore and contemporaries. Mass stupidity is reaching an appalling level. From Bangladesh 🇧🇩
