First of the year boat trip and hoped to try for some fish on Buckeye Lake but it was just too windy and rough.

All that wind is for the birds. Thanks for taking me for the ride!

Yes it is. That lake is known for it's winds. It's laid out just right or wrong and catches and funnels the winds. Never been there without it blowing. We live 12 miles away and not a breath stirring at home, get there and it's near whitecap conditions. The hope was to find one of the canals in a windbreak. No such luck yesterday.

Yeah, we avoid the lake on weekends like the plague. Even from the bank it's just too busy. Can't seem to fish a full day without a boat getting into my lines or at least driving over my bait constantly. Glad the test run went well for you!

@206pappy How are you? Been thinking of you, done some bank fishing for saugeye down there with no results at all thus no video whatsoever. I _knew_, _Should_ have known if there was a slight breeze at the house it would be gale force on the lake. Other boat traffic wasn't terrible as we've seen before on the Millersport end but still bad enough. but even the bigger boats were getting rocked. I wrongly guessed we would find a canal or two that was sheltered but even they had more wind than I cared to fight to keep from getting blown into the banks. We had limited time yesterday but time enough to get out somewhere for a bit. Have tried bank fishing the pier at Mud Island, the rock point at the main boat ramp and around it. 2 fish elude me, a trout and a saugeye. Have never caught either no matter how hard I try. Next trip by boat on Buckeye will be dead still air, dog days of summer type weather and in the middle of the week. ;)

Sorry the lake was so crowded, but good that your boat and motor are ship-shape for another season. Good going, Sonya, for wearing your PFD; I know Ken was wearing his, as well. Sonya, please reverse your Sonya-cam next time; your pretty face is much more interesting than watching choppy, brown water, lol. Have a good week, friends. Tim

How are you doing? Made her blush. lol. PFDs, I was watching the depth finder and you might find it hard to believe but the depth ran from 2.6 to 3.8 feet most of the trip. The canal was deep at 6 to 9 feet. That lake isn't deep at all. I was more concerned with hitting bottom with the motor in a couple places than anything. But alas, the rule is if underway the life jackets must be on. I am a non swimmer but not afraid of the water. I have a high respect for it but no fear. So, her wearing a pfd might come in handy as she might have to rescue me. If she even would. lol. We've hit enough stumps and debris and got knocked around some that wearing them is just a no-brainer. Especially in that mess yesterday in a 14' aluminum boat. That's about as rough as we want to get in that boat.

If you was going to that end of lake why not put in at Fairfield beach? There are other ramps besides lebis island!

Good legit question. The thought at the time was put in at Millersport, on the windward end and maybe the wind would be less and not down-lake where the wind had time to build or be stronger or more concentrated. Hit those upwind end sheltered canals. The water in the canals was a lot smoother but the winds still moved us around more than one cared to fight. Of course the main ramp in Buckeye Lake was completely full, no parking at all. Not surprised there.

Did they ever fix the damn? I went there about 4 years ago and it was so shallow it was hard to fish.

It has been fixed. Pretty extensive construction project ran a few(?) years. One of the lakes claim to fame is how shallow it is when full pool to begin with let alone any lowered levels.

@@tinyboatfishing1 that the whole thing with Buckeye they need to do a serious dredge job! But they have to have somewhere to put the silt they take out! And when i say take it out they need to dredge it down 20 plus feet ! And add rock and zebra mussels to clean it up

Seems like you might have better luck fishing, if you turned off the motor and actually put a line out, PS, you are on a flat surface, with no trees, it’s going to be windy.

We had intended to hit the upwind end canals where houses, buildings and terrain would act as a windbreak from the open water but as the water was a lot smoother in the canals the winds were still moving more than we cared to fight.
