One of the ways I’m excited to use it is by setting it up at escape points, and pressuring enemies to walk into it! It’ll be great for smart plays.

I think that instead of showing a message when sprinkler is destroyed it should make a sound to the player similar to how autobomb makes a sound when it localizes something, that way it would not take UI space or be distracting

It could be done very easily without any UI clutter, just have the sub icon that's already there be faded out if there's a sprinkler out, and when the color comes back you know yours has been destroyed

I do agree that line marker is still generally worse than good ol' bombs tbh. I do however believe that it will be incredibly good on weapons that can end up just shy of a kill normally. Things like explo direct + explosion (90 dmg), bamboozler full charge (85 dmg). If it does enough damage to kill as a combo with those I could see the sub being a very slightly worse burst bomb in those specific cases due to the rapidity, precision, angles and lingering effect of the sub. Burst bomb paints (which is huge) but it's slow to travel and latency dependent (which is really bad) so I legitimately can see line marker being better in some cases as an aggressive option.

I think there’s one thing interesting about the line maker is that this sub can locate people but the line also reveal your location to the enemy. The users need to be careful while thinking when to use it compared to point sensor

What if Sprinkler was reworked as a stationary drone styled weapon. Like if no enemies are in the vicinity, it paints as it usually does, but if someone gets close, it slowly fires weak pellets in their direction. Just as weak to damage and weak on output, but it would offer minor support for the user with some chip damage or distraction while holding an area. Slower or Weak Weapons would get some level of support from their own special as if it was a mini player that can't move.

Another concept that could be applied to many sub weapons, though this is far more experimental as an idea. What if their usefulness changed on how long you charge the hold button. Say you held the button for a regular splat bomb, but holding the button increases its range on burst at the cost of more ink. It would have to rework the initial range to compensate for anyone spamming bombs, and maybe a cool down for anyone say throwing three bombs in succession. But it could offer a bit more complexity so said subs based on how long you want to charge them. Like what if the suggested change for the sprinker could be that if charged, the shots might be a bit faster and or stronger when charged. But holding this down would leave you vulnerable without much ink to use to run or retaliate.

@@ProChara Nothing like a well aimed sniper. More like a garden sprinkler that lazily edges in your direction. In a way, it suggests a flank in a general direction, though nowhere near as useful as Torpedo, Marker or Auto Bomb. Just a "Hey someone headed your left".

After the World Premiere, I can honestly say for now, it’s incredibly effective. Mainly because in the right hands, it’s a silent sniper- seriously, it travels around the same distance as chargers and its incredibly useful in support. Your friends having trouble taking out an opponent? Just throw the Line Marker and it’ll be incredibly useful even if it doesn’t directly hit. Plus, it just comes out of nowhere without much counters towards it. I mainly just throw it and finish, and with the Splat Pro, it’s incredibly deadly that way since the enemy is at a massive disadvantage if they attempt to fight you.

I believe angle shooter is actually a gambling term. I don’t remember what it exactly meant but I remember it making sense in the context of how the sub weapon is used Line marker is still better though

Apparently angle shooting is using underhanded tricks and tactics to gain an advantage, usually against a beginner. In this case I suppose it's bouncing the line around to hit someone you can't see.

I'll confess, I like all of the names except Mark Applier, that RU-vidr dulls my brain so much to the point where the only thought in my head is to eliminate him to stop the dulling fog. I repeatedly need relief from people like him.

i feel the direct hit effect with toxic mist might be a bit redundant, because if u hit them right at the center theyre gonns be stuck in the toxic mist for a hot second either way, tho maybe if the slowdown stacked itd be particularly deadly. ive been more of the opinion toxic mist should have a subtle disruptor effect for a short time after escaping the cloud

Honestly the center of mist doesnt trap very long so having a few seconds even after leaving mist matters. And it also accounts for situations where they get hit by mist while falling or swimming fast already and wouldn't stay in the mist. A short linger effect after the cloud would be fine, but it doesn't add as much depth/playmaking to me. Fine with either though.

I just had a huge brainwave about the Toxic Mist, and I need to share it: Step one, increase the duration a lot. Well, _base_ duration anyway, because... Step two, make it do the flipper-flopper thing of creating a temporary mini splat zone for the players to contest. If the enemies can take it, it shuts off early. ... Okay, so maybe it's not a _good_ idea, but it does at least feel like an interesting one, right?

Really curious about how the Angle Shooter's line deals damage. Does it deal damage more than once if you touch it multiple times? And do you continue to take DoT damage if you stand in the line?

I feel like good buffs this sub could get, is let it do 40 damage if you directly hit an enemy, but if someone runs into it, it should do half the amount of damage (20 dmg). Also, if it bounces off a wall, the little explosion should do 15 - 20 damage. Personally, this is my opinion, but it needs stronger buffs for it to work.

Maybe an overall nerf to the radius of bombs would be good as it would allow utility subs to see more use and would make spamming bombs less powerful

Im not sure if bombs need a tone back but utility subs are too limited, I think rn the plan should be to nerf LDE so bombs can't be spammed as hard and change utility subs like this then wait a few months to see how it changed.

The idea of utility subs doing damage is smart, because subs are usually to help you splat an enemy or protect you and you teammates. So something can do damage and that tracks someone at the same time is a good idea.

An idea I'd like to see with sprinkler is to give it extra functionality if you throw the sprinkler directly on an enemy. My idea is if you do, it does a small amount of damage (say 20) and attached to them, spreading your ink around them wherever they go. This version would instead not be destroyable and the effect would end after some time (say 2 - 3 seconds)

Definitely agree. I like what they've done with upgrading point sensor to line marker but I think that for most of the utility subs they should stick to improving their utility instead of just... making them more like bombs by dealing damage. Like for sprinkler, I just want to see it paint more. Increase its paint radius until it's a good sub weapon. That's all I want. Toxic mist could prevent healing but dealing DoT wouldn't be good imo.

i main nautilus 47 (that grey splatling) and it has point sensor point sensor can be pretty useful when enemies are hiding behind walls so you can know when they will approach you and where they are

6:37 And also it should drain the opponents stats, little bit, like a 25th or 10th, of speed and health if the user has been hurt or is already moving respectively and a fourth or a half of Ink tank restored depending on either whichever one you think is more balanced for directs, with a tenth of Ink being drainable if not hit directly and no health or Speed drains from the indirects. Therefore, if the opponent is trying to stop the user from moving using bombs or by just firing at them then the sub can help preserve some health and speed and keep the momentum from the Inkling being lost rather than just take away stuff from the opponent. Because if Ink is the only source of protection in Splatoon then it makes the whole game become over centralized on one very counterable gimmick, making inking the ground not very effective and therefore not very impactful over the course of a match, which means that we need to give utility subs more use so that the more interesting and more bombs like Fizzy and Torpedo don't take over the meta.

The fun aspect is crazy important to me. Splatoon 1 felt like absolute anarchy and I LOVED it, that's the sort of environment where I have the most fun. Considering this game is a literal anarchy lore-wise, I'm hyped that they're taking such a classic chaos and cranking it up to ten! I'm excited for what they do with Ink Mines. I mained the RG in Splatoon 1 and I have such fond memories of being a pest on Ranked. Point-Sensor functionality PLUS better damage would be great, albeit maybe a tad overkill? It would fit the hybrid nature of the Subs here. As in, if you live, you're still marked.

Part of me hope that the angle shooter has a small amount of homing. Say an enemy is behind a wall and behind them is a flat wall. If you throw it, it should target them to a small extent

I think another benefit of the sub doing damage is the enemy will be forced to move giving them a greater disadvantage, like they have less time to prepare for your arrival

I want to add a third gun to the sprinkler where, if an opponent is within slightly longer splattershot range, the third gun will aim at that opponent. The gun shoots like the jr except half as fast and the same range as its detection, so even if it has the aim of a god, it has shit accuracy and a slow kill time. but if you press R while a sprinkler is active, the sprinkler switches to player aim mode, where the accuracy increases significantly, but the aim and firing is controlled by the player. This mode of fire consumes your ink over time while active, so you gotta be careful with it. The idea is like the wrangler from TF2 but not broken This addition would make sprinkler more of an area control type sub weapon. Put this on splat brella again and you'll have TF2 engineer in Splatoon since engie relies on his shotgun to deal damage when not near his sentry

I wonder, if Toxic Mist had the effect of regening you and your teammates ink when inside the effect area (like the same rate as it drains enemy ink) would that be good, too strong or not strong enough?

That could be a good idea. I am not entirely sure whether or not it will be too strong. However if that is the case with the sub weapon than what is the point for gear then? It essentially does the same thing and undermines their usefulness.

Increasing ink recovery could be interesting and not broken, but it feels unintuitive without design changes that it buffs your team.

@@ProChara Yeah it would need to be a "new" sub weapon like how the angle shooter (using the official name for clarity) is the new better replacement for point sensor, like a new sub weapon that is basically toxic mist but it also helps your allies and maybe has a lingering effect even once a player leaves the area of effect.

one thing i hated about point sensor is not only how useless it is against most weapons, like backliners or supports, but how its reward depends on the matchup, like weapons that relies a lot on sharking, rollers and lunas for example get really annoyied by it since its so easy to locate, making it quite an unbalanced sub which its usefulness depends too much on the matchup, the new maker sub actually fixes that, it takes skill to actually mark ppll at the same time the reward is higher and more equal to most weapons, so not only that gives heavy sharking driven weapons a chance to avoid it and not get marked for free, but its more threatening in general duo to its damage, so ppl wont just shit on it and ignore its lines even if they dont mind getting marked, making it more useful better overall and against most weapons, and also a follow up tool with a yet to see potential also i love the idea of painting your feet or that the very least paint where it bounces off, its something really useful and yet not op since you are still taking a lot of your inktank to just to move a little

Sub weapon idea: Toxic Mist + Ink Storm. A deployable that has very short range BUT on deployment it moves in the direction you deployed it, like ink storm, and it lasts for 4 seconds. Shorter radius than Ink Storm. When someone is in the area, it slows them down and lingers after leaving for only a second. I think this adds a lot of utility to the sub and can stuff a lot of approaches.

Good vid, I will say that with squid roll being a thing, painting your feet wouldn't be as mandatory (still nice ofc). I think even with that "drawback" the devs are addressing these potential issues through other means, squid rolls will add another layer of mechanic skill which can help elevate slower weapons without direct synergy with each other, pinning dynamos down won't be as common, that's my theory at least

Splatoon 3 has a theme of bringing back and revamping old stuff from Splatoon 1 (Inkstrike, Killer Wail, Inkzooka). So maybe instead of revamping Toxic Mist, they just… bring back Disruptor.

I can just imagine a special where you have a bunch of Angle Shooters around you and you can either fire them 1 by 1, in front of you (R) or all at once in a circle (ZR + R) but you can fire them all at once even if you already shot 1 or 2. But 4 of these shooting them all at once in different areas. But anyway, that's Echolocator brought back, mega bomb rush for bomb rush, and I have an idea for a king kraken, where there are 2 medium sized seeker bombs but in the shape of a kraken while being one but regular sized kraken there all the S1 specials back

The few uses I got from point sensor is mostly in lower ranks to help with tracking, be use as a call out button, and a slight slap on wrist for a lot of the people I use to play with that over use ninja squid. It's not great but it was at least helpful when I was climbing the ranks

Maybe if Line Marker gave a small bit of your ink back? Or gave a bit of extra special charge? Something small, but still unique to it would really help it stand out in terms of balance.

About the name of the angle shooter - a lot of things in Splatoon are clearly based off of real life objects, but not all of them are named directly based on those objects. Their names are usually inspired by the objects, but they are not directly called what their object is (with exception given when the similarities are too clear to miss out on, like with brushes). Line marker having the name of the item that the sub is based on is not something usually seen in Splatoon, so they chose a different name that's not direct and it ended up being miles worse. I personally would like to see the middle ground though, not having it directly be called a marker but rather something related to a marker. I am at a loss as to what the name might be, however.

If they ever need to buff this sub down the line I really hope it will allow us to see the tagged users’s weapons with a little bubble over them. Bring back that nice bomb sniffer+recon in one package.

Maybe for the toxic mist it can be hold charged just like curling, and if you do, it'll either give them bigger range, a poison effect where the enemy hp gradually decrease, or disruptor effect. While Torpedo is my favorite sub, I also love non lethal as they're very unique to use, so I hope they rework them to be viable amongst the lethal

Hear me out... What if they made torpedo have a sprinkler on the back? It would make sense because octolings were already doing this in the hero modes and now that they are integrated into inkling society they would likely share their tech. Also it would look like the sprinkler is propelling the torpedo.

Torpedo is already a pretty good sub weapon and I dont think it needs more upgrades. But the idea is nice! What about not a homing missle but just a slow rocket flying in straight line with sprinkler? Like curling bomb but flying?

@@xouleater2517 interesting idea although having a homing missile is still nice. What if when you rolled it on the ground, after it explodes it leaves behind a sprinkler and it immediately explodes on contact with a wall so you can still roll it and you can still get those tricky sprinkler placements. Then when you throw it in the air and it locks on to somebody it leaves ink droplets directly below it at an interval so that you can jump between them but not directly swim. Then when it hits it's target instead of dropping explosive droplets like it does now, it would leave a sprinkler.

Maybe Toxic mist should allow your teammates to get slightly buffed when standing inside it ? Like faster ink regen or movement speed ? Could help at choke points or you could throw one before a 1v1

The reason why it’s called Angle shooter is because it bounces off an angle And the reason why it does damage is because it’s a highlighter, using it’s ink to cause damage

They changed the physical design into a flashlight so.... Have it be used as a chargeable flashlight (charging would be similar as holding R), where everyone in the range would be located ? Also MAYBE enemies in the range would have to look away from as it could blind (like Valorant's blinds, but not as annoying- maybe just a bunch of ink splatted on your screen, like the Blooper from Mario Kart)

Maybe it could have mini explosions when it bounces and hits people. Not TOO much but enough to make it like an actual bomb.

I agree with all of this. I would hope that they do something better with sprinkler, like more damage if you go in it? I also think that with beackon, it should not show jumping point even if someone destroys it, cuz that kinda makes it less undercover. That beakon part seems hard to understand because of the way I wrote it, so just ignore that part. Btw the marker sounds Waaaaaay better than point sensor. What if MPU made the damadge when throwing it more? Or maybe it gets more range? That would be cool.

Hey Chara, what if we buffed Sprinkler by taking the cooldown added in Spla2n and reverse engineering it? My thoughts are that it fires super fast when first deployed before then slowing down. I think this would be very interesting in a more offensive play (though defensive def needs to be considered too). I can imagine putting this in special spots (say, on a wall right next to your opponent) where it could be dangerous (and silly might I add) if used cleverly. Upon this, it makes putting it in various places near mid more interesting. Right now sprinkler isn't worth the ink to place it near your opponents since A: It is easily destroyed and B: it disappears when you are splatted. But if it could get some value quickly before it is deleted then sprinkler could be one of my favorite subs in Splat3 and the sub I dreamed of using in Spla2n.

I actually like the angle part of the English name. I don’t like the shooter part because it’s thrown by hand, not launched by a ballistic. I think angler or angle dart would’ve been a better name. Angling can also refer to fishing, esp as someone who grew up watching SpongeBob, and fondly remembers the episode Hooky, when Mr. Krabs compliments Squidward on his “fine angling” near the end of the episode.

I think I'd prefer it if instead of using mist's lingering aoe, they brought back disruptor's original design, just with a different effect. Like, instead of slowing you down, it could prevent you from shooting, or healing, or sumthin like that Idk I just think the slow effect might be a bit one-dimensional in that it's either a death sentence or a minor hindrance

Just flat out disagree with point sensor not being fun and definitely with its location effect being outclassed by ink mine. Mine will only locate the one person who triggers it and it'll get triggered whenever the mine does meaning you cant use it during a push at all to know where your enemies are. Point sensor is just flat out better for that I imagine in comp that utility just isnt that useful because of comms, but having the enemy marked still would give you an exact tracking location. Plus Comms are a resource, there can only be so many things being said at one time so point sensor could take that burden off. Plus in solo queue and the casual scene its infinitely better due to the complete lack of comms. You cant say you were only talking about comp cus you trashed the sub weapon as being bad design entirely, meaning for the game as a whole which includes all levels of play. To me marking someone, in splat 3 atleast, feels super rewarding and would only be moreso if point sensor was even cheaper to throw. I also feel like at lower levels of play it has use as area denial too. In comp the coordination probs means that you could ignore it when pushing but in solo especially if used on flanks I feel it being really useful. Maybe it could use some buffs in that area Idk, I feel like you were unduely mean to a sub weapon that needs more love ;-; especially in the balance change sense but yeah

What if the ink wall were just like a mini column you could stand inside, surrounding you from all sides with a circular ink wall, but you couldn’t use your main weapon while inside for whatever reason?

I’d like it if line marker lasted much much longer so it was more of a tripwire thing that you can set up. I think that would help bring it up and be more fun

if they keep phases on sprinkler id like if its first phase has occasional shots that fling out pretty far (similar range to the extra splatters from a suction bomb). its nothing major but i really think sprinkler should be able to cause quite a mess if its left untended to. small thing but i still want it.
